Eddie Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 No keeper has ever had that display as the norm. Made a few fine saves today and he's been getting better as the season progressed. His second half of the season has been very impressive.

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 'Consistency' being the key word as far as goalies are concerned. Superb match today and credit for it but he needs to make sort of display the norm rather than the exception. I'd like to know what keeper consistently pulls off performances like that?
RovertheHill Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I'd like to know what keeper consistently pulls off performances like that? Brad did - and that's the problem for Robinson - he has to follow that
RevidgeBlue Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Absolutely outstanding display today and I think he's got better and better as the season's gone on. I'll repeat what I said a week or two ago, I think we're very lucky to have him. If he's at the Club long enough he might come to be regarded as Ince's "Matt Jansen" "At least Kidd signed us Matt Jansen." "At least Ince signed us Paul Robinson" etc.
Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 It was Souness who made Jansen great though. Kidd contributed nothing to improve Jansen who was very much an individual rather than team player up until the promotion season.

Don't agree or disagree with that either way but using the same logic you could argue Sam might make Robinson great. (er)
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Brad did - and that's the problem for Robinson - he has to follow that While Brad had some absolutely world class games, they were by no means consistent. Frequent, yes. And many of his spectacular games came late on in his career. Robinson is only young in goalkeeping terms.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Superb performance by Robbo today, some really top class saves. From what I saw on the television it’s the leanest I’ve seen him for some time? Perhaps all the hard work he has put into getting fully fit and sharp is starting to pay off.
BRFC Casuals Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Well done today Robbo...... Wigan manager Steve Bruce: "If we had played until midnight we wouldn't have scored because of the way their keeper played.
tony gale's mic Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 As I've already said, brilliant performance today but it's going to need consistency (even in the last game he let a poor one in) and slightly more performances like this (not every game by any means, not even at Brad's frequency but say 3 or 4 times a season) for me to say I'm confident in him as our keeper. Still today was a big step in the right direction and hopefully next season he'll start producing the run of form we want from him.
Hughesy Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 He has got better and better as the season has gone on. If we were not in a dodgy position and with an unsettled side, he would of done even better. He could be a very important player for us in the future. Great display today.
modes98 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Always said Robbo is capable of these kind of saves and I'm glad he picked today to prove it. You could see him growing in confidence with each save he made and the fans spurring him on. A top draw display in goal keeping today and the Paul Robinson I'm sure we'll see more of in the years to come.
No Nay Never Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Not been his biggest fan so far this season but always said it was confidence related, just one other thing....... OUTSTANDING TODAY ROBBO
Earlydoors Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Showing signs of improvement to me. Starting to look (a bit) trimmer and sharper. He was never going to be better than Brad this season but should be over the next four. He could yet be the difference between us going down or not. Robbo coming good. Keep it going lad
T4E Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'd like to know what keeper consistently pulls off performances like that? Brad Friedel. Robbo was Friedel-esque yesterday, long may it continue.
jim mk2 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Robinson is moving alot better and is now getting down to low shots close to his body that earlier in the season would have beaten him (eg, Villa away) . So he's a) improved his fitness b ) received good coaching c) gained confidence from playing regularly or a combination of all three. Either way, his aim now must be to keep up that standard.
The Prof. Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 As his biggest critic on here I think he was great yesterday. I hope it continues and will eat humble pie gladly. He still has a way to go to convince me because I think he has always been a good shot stopper but technically suspect. The big cheer from the Blackburn End when he caught a cross was telling. However, confidence is all. Let's hope he can do it for a season.
Paul Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I think it was generally rekoned Brad was worth 6 -9 points a season. Well Robbo was worth 3 yesterday....so where are all the critics now?

What a silly post. Can you not read Paul? Most have been on to comment..... and comment very favourably too. So what point are you trying to prove? Here........... Guest Vinjay606 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Always considered him a good signing so wasn't surprised at all by his performance yesterday. SIGNATURE (MANUALLY ADDED DUE TO PROFILE TAG FAULT)
Rovermatt Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I thought Robinson was utterly outstanding yesterday. He really kept us in it when we were looking shaky as the game wore on and his double save late on was world class.
JAL Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I think it was generally rekoned Brad was worth 6 -9 points a season. Well Robbo was worth 3 yesterday....so where are all the critics now? Go on then Paul Clean sheet what can one ask for well, the majority of shots were at him or within his range his best save seemed to be one low to his left in the Blackburn end which I think he needed to grab that a second time. But as nicko points out, he pushes the ball back into play from a save. First half he did it, if a Wigan player had beeen in the box at that moment a simple tap in would have resulted fortunately for Robbo and Rovers no Wigan player had ventured into the box. Look forward to the day when hes either putting it out for a corner or catching the ball. We've waited a long time for Robbo to shine so lets see if he can put a few games together now and steer Rovers to mid to low table finish.
