Robinson suffers because he is always compared with his predecessor at Ewood.

For what it's worth I think Robinson is a very good but not outstanding goalkeeper. He also seems to be a jolly good egg.

We're lucky to have him at Ewood and I wouldn't swap him for any of those other keepers mentioned above.

pretty much agree with all of this. If we never had brad robbo would be thought of in higher regard.

Brad was excellent but can't go on forever and I still think it was good business to rplace him when we did.

People say he let in goals that brad would have saved but just because he once made a similar save doesn't mean he would everytime. Robbos save against hull was world class no guarantee big brad would have made it

All being said I don't think we'll ever see displays the like of vs arsenal or the worthington cup final again, those displays were out of this world but that brad is gone.

How much would it cost to buy David James or any of the other supposedly better keepers in this thread? Robbo is a perfectly decent keeper and its ridiculous that there are people who think we should sell him just because there are a couple of other teams who have superior goal keepers.

He's as good as we're going to get. No, that doesnt mean he's brilliant but he's a damn sight better then many other keepers plus, we couldnt attract any better calibre of keeper here even if we had the money.

Funny enough most of the decent keepers in the prem mentioned have been brought for peanuts. We got brad on a free, Sorensen on a free, Van Der Saar for a reported 2million, Jussi went to Bolton for peanuts.

The minute Robinson starts commanding his 6 yard box is the minute I start saying he's a good keeper. He's rooted to the goal line on crosses.

Wouldn't say he's a bad keeper but doesn't control his box anywhere near enough to be a really good keeper. Like the rest of our squad now he's an average premiership player. Can think of quite a few gks I'd want to have, but realistically, finding someone better and proven within our price range is a none starter.

Added to the fact we have pressing issues elsewhere on the pitch and that he does seem a jolly good egg as jim says, I'm content enough to see him in net for us.

But how many keepers have been bought for peanuts and havent performed. Friedel being let go is considered by Liverpool fans to be one of the worst pieces of business in their recent history. Jussi was bought about 8 years ago and VDS/Sorensen arent much better then Robinson IMO. If you want a superior keeper to Robinson you're looking at the Given's/Brad's of this division, and they're not cheap. That is why its not worth debating how poor or otherwise Robinson is, because there is no chance we could get any better.

Neither did Brad... Brad was also a good shot stopper, but on many occasions came out and watched balls float over his head, while being stranded in no mans land.

Really Iceman?

I remember very few mistakes from Brad. Judge a goalkeeper on his consistency. Judge him on how many mistakes he makes over a season, or even a career. Where does that leave Robbo?

VDS is by far and away a better keeper than Robinson. Sorensen is slightly better. Didnt we let Given go for peanuts and sign Brad for peanuts?

A good goalkeeper can make the step up no matter what league they play in because they all have to do the same thing and have the same attributes. It's a pretty silly statement to say we can't get better when most of the better keeper's have been brought for cheaper than robinson.

Robbo was brilliant yesterday and watching him come out to take the ball off Gardner, and getting booted into the head to the bargain, was the mark of a very brave and confident keeper. He is much happier and much more confident than I've seen him for a long time and you can really tell.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that he was brilliant yesterday but, over the course of the season, he has been as good as, if not better than, every English keeper in the league. He is a great shot stopper, is great at kicking and is quick off his line, but is weak in the air and susceptible to long range strikes. Overall though, he is better than the likes of Green, Kirkland, Foster and Hart, and deserves a place in the England squad. For the money we paid and considering the club's pull and financial clout, he is probably the best keeper we could realistically hope to have and I feel people are far too harsh in their judgement of him.

Let us not forget he also saved a penalty taken by a German! He deserves a place based on that alone! :D

One game changes very little. He was very good yesterday but every keeper has good games - try and dig out the highlights of Boaz Myhill's performance against Spurs a few weeks back which was on another level entirely.

Bit more consistency and if he has a few more games on that level and he mightnt be a bad shout for 3rd choice though.

100% in agreement with this line Jim, says it all really.

We want to be a top 10 Premier League team, if the rest of our players were as capable in their position as Robbo is then we certainly would be.
