..until he makes the next mistake.

Having said that he looked pretty good second half of last season once we were doing a bit better so let's hope he repeats the same this season.

He's looked 'good' for the past 2 years, its just that some people expect 'brilliant' each and every week, partly due to us being spoilt with Brad. People are criticising him for only being good at shot stopping - well surely thats what 90% of goalkeeping is about???

Id take Robbo over many of the keepers in this division and as somebody rightly pointed out, if each of our outfield players matched the calibre of Robbo in their own positions then we'd be going very well for ourselves.

He's looked average at best, short range shot stopping is his strongest suit but has let in a horrible amount of long range goals he shouldve saved and often looks dodgy on crosses. I'd say Robbo is a lower mid table standard keeper. Played well on Sunday but his opposite number is still a considerably better keeper though he had a much worse game.

Do agree about his personality/character though.

One game changes very little. He was very good yesterday but every keeper has good games - try and dig out the highlights of Boaz Myhill's performance against Spurs a few weeks back which was on another level entirely.

Bit more consistency and if he has a few more games on that level and he mightnt be a bad shout for 3rd choice though.

Curious. I said in my post that he deserved a place in the England squad because of his form over the course of the season and that he didn't have the 'amazing' game that some have attributed to him. He has had a number of games where he has performed just as good as, or better than, yesterday. However, his occasional mistakes (which are becoming less frequent) tend to undo much of his good work.

From my point of view, many of his 'mistakes' were hardly howlers, just shots which would have taken a very good save to have prevented, saves which we may have taken for granted with Brad in between the posts. Having had the best keeper in the Premierleague for the past 8 years I think some fans do need to realise that Robbo is a very good keeper, not the best, but still very good. I would say he's in the top 7/8 in this league.

I'd say around 12th or 13th - I agree to a point about quite a few not being outright howlers, difference for me being that Premier League keepers, especially ones that are considered top half - will be pulling off those very good saves the vast majority of the time. I realise he's not Brad - Brad pulled off "miracle" saves, I'd never expect that from Robbo. But even though Jaaskeleinen was distinctly second best out of the two keepers on the day itself, that save he made from N'Zonzi especially was brilliant and I don't see enough of those brilliant moments from Robbo. He did make two or three very good saves though.

What goalkeeper doesn't make mistakes?

Would you like Alumina? Foster? Howard? Friedel?(this year) Gomes? Even Cech's making them. We got a good keeper for our money, yes he's got weak areas but for 3.5M I don't believe we could have done much better.

Robbo did all that was asked of him on Sunday and took up some great positions. Matty Taylors shot, when the full back left him all on his own, the Korean again left all on his own, gardener clean through, if anyone of those had gone in then the games completely different and we may not have gotten the 3 points.

Sunday was a game in which a lot of credit goes to him, even Brad would have been proud of that performance.

He always claps the fans, something a few of our players just don't do, he's obviously happy here and for me he's well worth his shirt.

Excellent post. I think Robbo is still underated at our club. If it had been Jaaskelainen in goal for us, I strongly suspect we would have conceded at least one. Robbo was excellent and couldn't have played any better on Sunday.

If Bolton go down I'd love Jaaskelinen to join us.

He does make some good saves but he seems to make every simple save look like a world class one by taking a step the other way before diving across. He's by no means a bad keeper but no improvement on Robbo IMO.

Worth giving Bunn a run in the team towards the end of the season, if we can and if he can be recalled. If not then make a move for Kieran Westwood in the summer and loan him back to Coventry. Selling Brown must be high up on the to do list but there doesn't seem to be much interest in him.

I think sometimes you over analyse keepers to reaffirm that your were one.

Jaaskenlinen has been along with Given and Friedel been one the best and most consistent keepers in this league over the last decade.

He's in the class above Robinson.

Did anybody notice how much of a concentration problem Jaaskelainen seemed to have on Sunday?

He nearly handled outside the box at least once in the first half and his kicking was often poor. In the second half however, I have never seen a keeper spend so much time turning round to look at the crowd in the BBE, even when the ball was in play.

For anyone who noticed it early enough to pick up on it and keep looking for it I am sure they will agree it was extremely odd, he must have stared into the crowd every couple of minutes at least, even during play.

Definitely not the keeper he was, although he pulled off a couple of good saves to keep the score down. (From Hoillett and N'Zonzi IIRC).

Robinson over Jaaskelainen any day for me.

I also feel that whilst Robinson is no "great" he should be number one for this World Cup but I am afraid he was one of the biggest casualties of the McLaren fiasco and may never recover.

Hart and Foster etc may become excellent keepers one day but having a number one of their age and experience at the World Cup terrifies me to be honest. The right keeper could well be the difference between success and failure this time, as I think the rest of the side is ready to win it.

Jussi's best days are behind him, he has been one of the best keepers in the Prem in his stint at Bolton, but time has caught up wth him and his concentration is now slipping.

Robinson should be the England Keeper for the forthcoming World Cup.

He is the best English keeper in the Prem at the moment.

Rob Green has had a poor season and is not on form.

Ben Foster is a third choice keeper.

Joe Hart is having a good season but doesn't have international tournament experience.

David James is having a bad season with a bad team.

Chris Kirkland, a bit of a non entity really, neither good nor bad, just there each week for Wigan.

Myhill has had a great season, but he ain't one of us...

I agree he has been one of the best keepers for the last 5 years or so, however I think he's now beginning to fade. So I wouldnt like to see us sign him if he became available.

I too noticed his lack of concentration and constant fooking around with the Blackburn End crowd.

Robbo has one decent match and suddenly he's god's gift to goalkeeping...

Even against Hull, though he made a very good save early on my heart was in my mouth every time he came for a cross. People are judging Jaaskeleinen on one poor match but as I said earlier, that save he made from N'Zonzi's header where he clawed it under the bar is a cut above the sort of saves that Robbo produces for us.

He does make some good saves but he seems to make every simple save look like a world class one by taking a step the other way before diving across. He's by no means a bad keeper but no improvement on Robbo IMO.

That's rubbish on Jaaskeleinen, if anything it's a Robbo speciality. It's something me and a friend have been thinking for a while but look at his first save (the one just before the Kalinic goal) if you don't believe me and have access to the highlights. The trajectory of the ball was straight at him, he dives the other way but manages to claw a hand up in the other direction luckily to save it. Still a good save but if his positioning was better the save wouldnt have looked so good.

Boring.

He isn't going anywhere. No manager is going to come in and decide that Robinson needs to be replaced. Your only hope is that we get relegated or asks for a transfer.

I'm not desperate for him to leave, ideally a better keeper would be nice. However I am saying he definitely shouldnt be number 1 for England and while the other choices for 2 and 3 aren't massively better than him, they are stronger keepers.

Also if our scouting does find a good keeper for around £1 million or less (not at all unheard of - see other clubs' keeper signings), then we should consider signing them and giving Robbo a run for his money in the side as while it's not somewhere we badly need to improve, it's somewhere where we could improve.
