Tim Southampton Rover Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Ah, so much for my posts a few hours earlier about him becoming England's number 1 again
1864roverite Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Announced his retirement from International football !
thenodrog Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1113507/The-best-players-world-Xavi--Ronaldo-crowned-king-football.html Just about sums up why you should never read the Daily Mail sports pages. And with their front pages being a hotbed of racist nonsense, there's no excuse to read the bloody thing at all. Not supporting the Daily Mail in particular but today your comments are in very poor taste tgm. You should retract them. I haven't even read the report but 10 aid workers executed in cold blood by the taliban is most definitely racist but unfortunately for the deceased and bereaved not nonsense no matter how you might want to spin it! They shouldn't have been anywhere near that hell hole of country of course but no one deserves to die like that simply for a very misguided act of kindness. If any of mine wanted to pull a stunt like that I'd have burned their bloody passports.
liam Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Brilliant, they call him up and he tells them to shove it, what a guy
Majiball Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Guess Robbo's not keen on Broccoli. ROFLMAO, bet he didn't even call him before hand to speak to him!!! Or most likely got his No.2 to do it. Nice one Robbo love it.
thenodrog Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 From Sky Sports............ is understood he informed the Football Association of his decision on Saturday night but did not tell Capello Obviously Robbo is bright enough not to want to be associated with the downwardly spiralling England set up. Robbos no Shilton of course but 3rd choice for that lot, precipitated only by David James's retirement to the lower leagues is not the place to be. Guilty by association would be the likeliest outcome and he certainly doesn't need that. I guess after Jones snubbing the U19's (nothing at all wrong with that of course, if Capello can't be arsed why should Jones?), Bentley and further back Sutton also and rightly in both cases cold shouldering the B team and U21's respectively and now this BRFC will again be subject to bad PR by the brainless dogpack of the national press. Well good! Bring it on! A good old fashioned 'everybody hates us' siege mentality never hurt any squad of players did it?
rovers1995 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 So proud of Paul Robinson. I said last night that I would love it if he told the FA he doesn't want to play for them. Kept his dignity Thing is now what are we going to sing to him in Rovers games? Hopefully 'Rovers number 1, Rovers, Rovers number 1' - or a bit tongue in cheek with 'Englands number 5'(Hart, Foster, Greeen, and James ahead of him in Capellos mind) Oh and Phil Jones didn't pull out of the U-19's Stuart Pearce pulled him out for the U-21's
Guest Kamy100 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Well done to Robbo, was treated shabbly by Capello and his cronies before the world cup. Hopefully he can continue his solid form for Rovers, great news for Rovers, he will now be 100% focused on doing well for Rovers.
thenodrog Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Oh and Phil Jones didn't pull out of the U-19's Stuart Pearce pulled him out for the U-21's I seem to rem he pulled out first. In fact here..... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/England-U19-boss-Noel-Blake-says-that-Premier-League-clubs-holding-players-back-from-U19-international-tournaments-hindert-England-s-development-article529011.html
mattyc2422 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Wow. Good on him. Reckon he was unfairly treated by England for a long time.
Stuart Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Well done for sticking to his principles but I wonder if he'll regret this choice later? The same way Sutton did/does...
Clitherover Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Well done Robbo. You have our full support with that decision.
daveoftherovers Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Couldn't agree more, been treated apallingly by that shower and you KNOW you have when supporters of other clubs can't believe where Robbo is in the pecking order, if I cared too much about England, I'd be really worried if Hart isn't the man for the future as I actually think the rest are a nightmare. Well done Capello and the FA, another fine mess you've got us into! Especially as you appear to believe all the hype about how "Great" the PL is and how wonderful our players are, you are truly in cloud cuckoo land!! Well done Robbo! Great move as far as Rovers are concerned, your timing was superb as was the delivery!
philipl Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Good on Robbo! Love the comment that he hadn't been picked so he couldn't announce his retirement before. Being realistic, he faced the humiliation of not even making the bench with Hart and Foster in front of him. Now he can concentrate on his League career and if he does well, there will be a clamour for him to reclaim the England gloves.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Proud of Robbo. Treated terribly by the England setup in recent years, love the way he told them to shove it!
tony gale's mic Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Sorry but I can't say I support this decision. His first season or so for Rovers was peppered with fairly regular errors and whilst he has come on since and fully deserves his place in the squad, he wasn't really ahead of any of the others previously. One can argue the others really weren't ahead of him particularly either, but once Fabio already had three goalkeepers at his disposal you could see why he didn't feel the need to add another one into the mix. Not supporting the Daily Mail in particular but today your comments are in very poor taste tgm. You should retract them. It was an off hand comment and in no way related to what's on the current front page. What happened was shocking and deserves the front page of any newspaper but most of the time it's xenophobic nonsense on their front pages.

Regarding the latter comment I was going to mention that earlier, couldnt agree more. Those comments were in no way referring to the atrocities being committed in Afghanistan.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I seem to rem he pulled out first. In fact here..... http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/England-U19-boss-Noel-Blake-says-that-Premier-League-clubs-holding-players-back-from-U19-international-tournaments-hindert-England-s-development-article529011.html Early reports suggested it was Rovers who blocked the release of Jones to the under 19s but it was later clarified that it was Pearce who told them not to bother as he was wanted by the under 21s. Which is why he has been included in the latest 19 man U21 squad. Well done Robbo, he wasn't picked for the latest squad on form but purely because Capello has to make the squad look diferent to the one that one to South Africa.
Doaksie Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Very brave decision from Robbo. Have to say, it feels like a good decision now, I just hope he doesn't live to regret it - he is after all only 30 (quite a few goalkeeping years in him yet). He could well have found himself first choice in 2 or even 4 years time at a push. Remember in the not too distant past David James was shunted for Robinson himself, but then came back a few years later to re-establish himself when Capello took charge. In the short term though, it's a right slap in the face for Fabio, which he probably deserves for the debacle that was the World Cup performance. Rovers number 1
Inta Beaver Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I agree with him calling it a day, Fabio has treated him in a shocking way, I feel sorry for Green to be honest, he has completely bombed him out of the squad, that proves it was a mistake by Fabio for not taking Robbo to the world cup in the first place. I personally feel Foster and Hart are better keepers than Robbo, when Robbo has been in the squad under Fabio he hasn't even had a look in anyway.
