JAL Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I think Robbi knew the score rather than seeing a perceived slight. Whilst none of Robboi, Bridge and Brown are first name on the team sheet candidates, it is rank bad man management to end up with them all unavailable when the number of English born players in the 220 kicking off in the PL reaches a new record low this weekend and a significant proportion of those will be wearing the tangerine of Blackpool. Which begs the question from our English club with its English manager, why are we looking at recruiting an Iranian journeymen if we are lead to believe reports. WHY?

T4E Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Surely he should get himself checked out at a clinc--- that's a most dirty gal--it's a surprise it's not fallen off yet. (sorry, Mum ) There's not much Angelina could have that would put me off throwing one up her.
thenodrog Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I did go to the Brum game, and just because he didn't have a blinder doesn't mean he didn't have a brilliant season! Did you go to the Liverpool game away by any chance? All keepers have a bad game, would you say Robinson had a brilliant season or not? It did expose his weakness and thats my point. If I noticed it then I'm sure every international manager will have too. If it helps you I don't think Robinson is that good either. He seems to see things 'late' so often. As I posted earlier I cannot remember a time when the position of Englands top 3 goalkeepers offered so poor a selection. . His form was undeniably brilliant last season, My expression must resemble that of your avatar's after that statement arran.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Robinson's a very good keeper, he just isn't a Banks, a Shilton or even a Friedel.
Backroom DE. Posted August 10, 2010 Backroom Posted August 10, 2010 Some strange opinions on here... especially comparing a soldier to a footballer I can understand Robbo's decision and am fine with it, but then I don't have any great love for the England team. It's a shame Robbo can't live up to the expectations set by national heroes such as "Lionheart" JT, but never mind . As long as he plays well for and stays committed to Rovers, he'll have my support.
broadsword Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Capello is a tit... One of the best contemporary managers in world football is a tit?? The enormous bank balance and honours he's collected in the game hopefully provide some solace. It's obviously a situation he's happened upon by pure luck, because he was a fool not to select Robinson when he was perming any 3 from England's pool of dodgy 'keepers for the World Cup.
CrazyIvan Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Some people on here are plain daft. Robbo retiring from England is his choice and it's something us Rovers fans can only benefit from as he won't be playing extra (pointless friendly) games. As for Capello, I think I would be looking for ways not to work with him from everything I've seen and heard. I thought Capello would do a good job but he's done absolutely nothing yet. Qualifying for the World Cup? This England side should have walked that anyway. Nothing I've seen recently has made me a fan. The only thing that would is if he could precipitate a massive change at the FA and bring it into the 21st century.
super_arran Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My expression must resemble that of your avatar's after that statement arran. Haha fair do's it's your opinion. But his clean sheet record and shots stopped stats are very good.
Inta Beaver Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 It did expose his weakness and thats my point. If I noticed it then I'm sure every international manager will have too. Yeah I can see Spain putting Puyol and Pique in front of Hart on corners and throw ins, with the manager screaming at Xavi and Fabregas to put the ball on the keeper!
tony gale's mic Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Have to say today made a mockery of the reasons behind Robbo's decision to retire from international football.
Backroom Tom Posted August 21, 2010 Backroom Posted August 21, 2010 Robbo's a good keeper in a lot of aspects but he is alarming weak with shots from distance, he just doesn't cover the ground well enough.
Andy Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Very harsh to blame Robbo for the 2nd goal tonight - the absent midfielders failing to even bother closing the oncoming B'ham player were more to blame than Robbo. His positioning was fine, the shot just found the bottom corner.

Shots from distance are a massive weakness of his, though his short range shot stopping has hugely improved over the last year or so.

If he has that he screws up. No one can say 'if only's' with any certainty but imo our last keeper would have stopped that shot in his sleep and we'd have a point today.
philipl Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 I think many keepers would have not saved that shot. Watch it from side on- Robbo was covering it but it kicks off the turf about 2ft in front of him and goes over his hands.

Pompeys goal by O'Hara bounced for the 3rd time as it bobbled past him last season. It happens too often and is one of the weaker aspects of his game.
beerwins Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Chelsea and Arsenal hammered us last season in the exact same way as the second goal, Robbo could have done better but the fact that the player wasnt closed down faster was the reason for the goal, even robbie blake scored against us like this too. If we dont close down teams with more quality up front we are going to concede cricket scores like we did last season.
Kelbo Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Liverpool monitoring Robinson. Doesnt surprise me one bit and probably Mimms will follow, unless we get a change of Manager!
Guest linganzi Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Unlike others he hasn't t commited to a contract so that will affect his value
Mercer Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Unlike others he hasn't t commited to a contract so that will affect his value He still has 2 and a bit years to go. However, the staggering thing is that new contracts have been handed out left, right and centre, however, arguably, our best and most prized asset has not been secured. This is an absolute disgrace and really, IMO, sums up the muddled and disjointed thinking that now exists with Rovers.

Ricky Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm guessing robbo was offered a new contract, I just wonder if he's holding off on signing it until the summer when he may be a bit clearer as to what's happening at the club.
Roversi Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 if robbo signs a contract with us than my respect for him will know no bounds. he has been without a shadow of a doubt the most consistent player for us in the last 2 years. however, we as a club know better then most the tempation of playing under Kenny and for liverpool. Robbo has got to a point for me personally where if he did go, my attitude towards him would not change and i would wish him good luck. My stance would be that we would give Frank Fielding the chance to replace him as number one, he has ability and deserves a crack.
67splitscreen Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Robbo, waiting for the outcome of this season to unfold, most would do the same if you were in his shoes. Strange though, was he and Nelsen not the two that wanted to commit for life?. Fortunate that we have two good understudies if he should leave.
