Majiball Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Having seen a few papers linking us to Mimms as a coach I have to ask why?? Eric Steele is spoken off in the highest terms from what I have been told, Surely we don't need two Goalkeeping coaches do we. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-20672089/ Its quite rare for Goalkeepers to become top outfield coaches, and surely the only position we have left to fill is the reserve team coach. Can anyone shed any light on why we are moving for him?

ebenrocks Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Having seen a few papers linking us to Mimms as a coach I have to ask why?? Surely we don't need two Goalkeeping coaches do we. we have just bought Robinson
Hi Mack Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 we have just bought Robinson and........................
allanncd Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Ferguson says United have approached someone to take over as goalkeeping coach from Tony Coton (forced to retire) ans expect it to be done this week. Could be Steele if he's that good.... After all it seems to be Open House for anyone to be taken from Ewood these days. Just ask and their gone...
Billy Castell Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Why's Coton having to retire? He's not that old is he? I hope Steele doesn't leave-he's only just arrived!
Amo Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Why's Coton having to retire? He's not that old is he? I hope Steele doesn't leave-he's only just arrived! He's only 47. Knee-injury, apparently.
Billy Castell Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I doubt it's Steele, its probably some foreign guy or whoever.
Iceman Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Ive heard it might be peter schmeical(sp) which would make perfect sense.ive also heard david seaman.
Manchester Blue Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 MEN reporting it will be Steele. Says we are lining up Bobby Mimms to replace him. Suppose it shows that he is highly rated and maybe people should hang fire before being so quick to dismiss Ince's appointments. I remember comments like what can this old man teach Friedel etc? Frustrating we are going to lose him so quick but before people chuck themselves off the building in despair just explain how we can stop someone going.
Majiball Posted July 28, 2008 Author Posted July 28, 2008 I hope its not Steele, I'm sure he played a big part in Robbo wanting to come here. Wonder how Robbo will feel about it all?
T4E Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Frustrating we are going to lose him so quick but before people chuck themselves off the building in despair just explain how we can stop someone going. Or atleast give us a run through of all the other Goalkeeping coaches in the Premier League, showing how we're in a far better position with Mimms and none of them can compare to the mighty Rovers anyway. Over to you, Philip.
Billy Castell Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Mimms may prove to be great, but it is odd that Steele may be leaving so soon. Perhaps he couldn't bear going directly from the council house to the temple of doom. Schmeichel might be a possibilty should Steele go too.
OJRovers Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 if steele does go to Man Utd after just signing for us, we'll probably be due some compensation from them. Maybe Ince can stike a deal where we get Giggs or Scholes in exchange!
Billy Castell Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Knowing our luck we'd end up with Saha! Chris Eagles would be nice. It would annoy Burnley as well.
21 Rover Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Ha Ha are you on drugs? Like that will happen. Maybe he can give his notice within 4 weeks of joining, like alot of employments allow you to?
Alanf Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Its quite rare for Goalkeepers to become top outfield coaches, Jim Furnell????????? Maybe not........
Majiball Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Mimms in Steele out. Mimms in Given the job he's done at Wolves and his history with us its a good replacement for steele.
RevidgeBlue Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Good shout by nicko on the Steele situation, reported it weeks before it was picked up on elsewhere. What the hell is Steele playing at? He must have known about interest from the red scum before he joined rovers. Can't see that he suddenly went from being out of favour (wasn't he out of work?) to being the hottest property around just on the strength of landing a position at Rovers. Anyhow, the Wolverhampton paper seems to speak in the highest possible regard of Mimms and it's nice to have one of our old faces back at the club imo.

Don't know what Steele was up to, had Coton confirmed his retirement when Steele was available? Wouldn't be surprised if RFW was on holiday at the time when Steele was released, that was why he took so long to comment on Ronaldo. But anyways I think of it in a way that we never really had Steele so nothing lost there. The real positive here is if Robinson goes on to do well we can put it down to the fantastic new goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms, if Robinson turns out to be a disaster then it was all that Eric Steele's fault
b12_simon Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Couldn't give a flying one about Steele. He's just done what lots of people in the game do when Utd offer them a job - just quicker than usual. Instead we've got a former player, someone with a great record at Wolves and someone who's been through and beaten exactly the same crisis in confidence that's affecting Robbo. All in all a very welcome signing!
Mc Love Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Great great news!! Forgot we once had Coors as sponsor
DingleBaiter Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Its quite rare for Goalkeepers to become top outfield coaches, Jim Furnell????????? Maybe not........ Is it? We just lost one in Eddie N..... Ince is certainly having a few bad days at the office, but it's all character building stuff as they say. No doubt the doom-mongers will find someway to blame this on Incey. I personally think it shows good management (again) on PI's behalf to snaffle Mr Blobby. Not sure how long he's been there, but they've had a few rated goalies in the past, and after all - he is an old boy. At least we've had some decent goalkeeping coaches in recent seasons, I know Hitchy was highly liked & rated as a GK coach too. BTW chaps, two stunningly well-made points that Bobby should be able to help Robbo on the confidence and benefit from being in a similar position, and also that we're in a no-lose situation as we either congratulate Mimms or slate Steele! Great success !
ChesterRover Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Welcome back Bobby, always nice to see ex players coming back in a coaching role. Lots of good press from his time at Wolves and how ironic that Mimms himself was forced out of Spurs for a few howlers and turned out to be a very decent goalie in his time at Rovers, lets hope he can boost Robinsons confidence and sharpish!
