Bazzanotso great, the club budgeted to increase wages by GBP4m. There was a string of new contracts signed last year which is why this summer we have not faced free transfers away or players holding a gun to our head because they had less than two years to run on their contract. Sparky's new contract alone added over GBP500k a year to the wage bill.

If you look down the table, I allowed a GBP750K add back for the wages budget not being spent fully.

They budgeted for an increase of 4 million- Before the sales of Savage, Bentley & Friedal and the release of Enkleman, Berner & Henchoz. Then we have Hughes & his management team replaced by Ince & Co- which will represent a large saving.

The problem is that with all accounts we are in 2008- whilst your accounted figures stem from projected (non-committed) figures from 2006. If Hughes of stopped ( alongside 3 of the top 5 earners at the club) – then a £40 million wage bill would probably have been right.

This simply hasn’t happened even with a raft of improved contracts- the wage bill will have remained static due to the loss of high earninig staff & players.

before anyone start to think ANNAN have gone on trial to Arsenal

i tell you it is pure RUBBISH.

Svein Mathisen (director at Start) said Arsenal WANTS him on trial, but he CANNOT go because of his contract. he is on loan, remember. so every potential clubs are asked to get to norway and have a look at him in action - on sunday agains Aalesund.

There is NO pricetag on him. NONE. the reported 2m is not set by Start. it is agent talk. Start want to set up a bidding war so they get as much for him as possible. and rovers, arsenal, spanish and french clubs are in the running, but of course we are in the hot seat.

as of now there has been NO bids.

but he WILL be sold before the window closes. they need money, so if we are the only ones to bid, i guess we can have him for 2-ish million, but if more clubs go after him we have to add a million or more i think. my guess is he leaves for 3-ish million.

Annan is back in Norway to be watched by rovers in the game between Stabaek v Aalesunds, Williams said "annon is goin back to norway to play at the weekend, the reasoning behind it is that paul wants to see him play a competitive game "

Taken from the back of the telegraph sorry if this has been mentioned, havent read the past few pages

I will do updates on Annan, Sable, Bassye and the 'old friend' later...

Lateral thinking here but... 'old friend'..? Could Ryan Nelsen be friends with his compatriot Steven Old? Only remember the name because he was sent of against China, and I'm not sure Nicko would bother being that cryptic. So failing that, I'd say it's damp squib time in the form of a Fowler contract.

I'll guess along with what others have said and say its Duffer. Which to me, would be fine - If it is Fowler, I'll cry! :(

...I'll be annoyed if we dont sign Annan after Sunday! Only on the basis, that IMO, he will be a sensation.

Lastly, I would like to see Baysse sign for us (only if the price is right).

Let's see what the annual accounts show.

And the year is to 30 June 2008. So most of the savings you are talking about will have zero impact on the year in which Rovers were budgeting wages to be GBP40m.

I was using the 2007 accounts and the Chairman's comments which include the GBP40m projection.

As always, I hope you are right and I bet John Williams wishes so too.

I've just heard from a mate that a name linked with us is Joaquin, but also linked with Villa? I've done a quick search on here and can't find anything - and was wondering if this is a genuine link or just someone giving me rubbish info on a name.

Just for a second I thought you said we were linked with Villa (as in David Villa). Then I re-read it :(

Getting him would be a serious poke in Spuds' eye and I'd love it, but that IS being unrealistic! I would really like to see an ambitious signing like Podolski who has not shone at Bayern but is a very good player and who actually wants to move to get his career in gear again. This motivation is important in my opinion. The question is, of course, how well he'd mesh with Roque.

As far as I know (and I've no inside information or anything) Joaquin is surplus to requirements at Valencia. He's an absolutely cracking player - fast, strong and technically very good. But if there's no bidding war, surely it won't make 16 million. His wages must be pretty good, Valencia spent a lot of money on him and might want to trim that wage bill. They're already making a loss on him at 16 million but I still reckon it could be forced down. To be honest, though, I can't really think of any very good to world class right wingers that are available at the moment aside from him.

Yes but the chaimans comments were before the departure of three of the highest earners at the club & before hughes & co left for city.

Clear and simple question- What do you believe the wage-bill to be on the 8th of August 2008? Stop hiding behind long posts- a short two or three line answer will suffice

Dont talk to me about accounting cylces & 2007. Budgets can be changed as they are daily within football, we didnt budget for the loss of Hughes & Co nor the loss of three of the highst earners at the club

Please don't mention that, you will have that geordie bugger, asking the same question every 15mins - 'Nicko - any news on Warnock to Newcastle?' <_<

Why so hostile? The posts may be long, but they're pretty clear.

Even if the figures don't take properly take into account the reduction from Savage and others £20 million is a solid ballpark figure. Better for us to underestimate rather than get carried away.

There are some personality clashes on this board, sure. But some posters really make a point of being as rude as possible to others and it's not necessary, detracts from any points, and wastes bandwidth and storage space with petty invective. If you must snipe, then pm the person or something

Is it really worth is Bazza? I take what Philipl states on rovers accounts with, a fair amount accuracy and truth.

Simply put, we have a 'boodle' of cash and lets hope its spent wisely by management. Not trying to start a fight here.

Unfortunately this is the downside of this message board,at times i really get fed up with the sniping. The whole point of a forum is to be able to debate issues that you will have an opinion on,in an adult manner and be accepting of other peoples views regardless of whether you agree or not. This does seem to get lost on a few (thankfully) posters.

I would say most of what philip posted isn't going to be too far away, its safe to assume we will be keeping the £4 million to one side to make the Villanueva deal permanent if we want to. (No point deciding we want him if we cant afford him!) That would put us with somewhere around 18-20 million to spend.

It may be worth considering some money being put to one side to make the Simpson deal permanent if he does well and if RFW is willing to sell. He would probably cost 2-4 million so in my opinion were probably looking at somewhere around £15 million to spend.

Why though? why cant people form there own opinions on issues rather than been drip feed information. My point is this PhilipL is proclaiming that we will have a 4 million higher wage bill- Because the chairman projected this over a year ago. Events unfortunaly ,have meant that we have lost our highly paid management team along with 3 of our top eraning players and have released several squad members. Therefore the projection is nulified by the fact that unforseen staff have been lost.

What other poster coud get away with having a go at other posters when they dare say that the club will have in the region of 25 million to spend then a week later says the same thing themselves- only the week before saying we have a top-line of 15 million to spend
