67splitscreen Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 been watching clips of the paraguay striker cabanas and just seen his goals ratio. My question to nicko now is how do we draw mr.inces attention to this fella, although i'd imagine roque already has. What an absolute dream strike force that could be.....certainly a step up from fowler.( old footy management game never had the rights to use real player names...liverpools no.9 was someone called basil trowler..magic) I've been talking about this guy for months on another board. I am almost sure when Cruz first signed, there was talk of a Paraguan strike partner mentioned in the LT.(MH) He is brilliant, watch him on ytube against Brazil, they could not even get close to him. Dare I say IMO as god as Saviola.

Bobby G Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I am sure he wouldve been mentioned by Roque to the board, and they wouldve taken it into account...
BRFC1995 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 don't get the whole saviola thing at all, i'd rather sign players that are on the brink of becoming great players or need a bigger stage to show the world they have the talent and have willingness to put the effort in - could quite easily see saviola showing as much disinterest as benni. I'd love roques brother to break into the first team, i really hope the lad has talent, a santa cruz double act strike force would be quite special. Think of the shirt sales in paraguay
nicko Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 The 11 o'clocker comes out of the stalls quickly...which is more than can be said for half-a-dozen nags tonight. ANNAN - Rovers tried to take him on LOAN after a full-time deal was set up. The kid went home in the huff. Arsenal DO want him next week and he may well sign. He can go for £1.5 million and Wenger thinks it is worth a punt. The player wanted to sign for Rovers...but felt let down. SABLE - Thanks but no thanks. He is going. BASSYE - Been here for some time and still waiting on an answer. OLD FRIEND - Yes, Keith Andrews is back on the hit list and I believe the manager wants him badly...which might explain Annan and Sable not signing. FOWLER - Some doubt whether he plays tomorrow. MCCARTHY - Sunderland still to bid, but thinking about it. MCCARTHY'S REPLACEMENT - That one is going to have to keep until Sunday and the soaraway People. WARNOCK - Staying. Newcastle scared off. MAN CITY - World War Three to break out over the sale of Corluka...

American Rover12 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 wow, I usually try not to be too critical but if Nicko's right about the Annan affair, then they really dropped the ball. Not a good look Rovers.
mjs Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 OLD FRIEND - Yes, Keith Andrews is back on the hit list and I believe the manager wants him badly...which might explain Annan and Sable not signing. I have kept an open mind about Ince up until now, but if that is true then I think we could be deep in the mire this season.
LeChuck Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 ANNAN - Rovers tried to take him on LOAN after a full-time deal was set up. The kid went home in the huff. Great. What on earth are we playing at with all these bloody loan deals? We have money, we don't need to do this. How we expect to get anyone half decent with all these trials/loans I'll never know.

Dare I say IMO as god as Saviola. He was mentioned of that I'm sure current south american footballer of the year, says it all really. Dare I say it better than Saviola!!! and cheaper!!! Surely we didn't try to take him on loan, at the supposed same price as Andrews he is the far better option. Get back on the phone and get him over permantly 1.5M even if he's pish we'll still get our money back.

I do not believe it...are we that tight we can't fork out a mere 1.5 million given our recent incomings? Jesus H (Please don't use that word again)ing Christ We'll probably fork out 1.5mill for Andrews n all Depressing times

I hope i'm wrong but, this may have been a mistake. I believe that Ince and Co. know more then i do about football.

MCCARTHY'S REPLACEMENT - That one is going to have to keep until Sunday and the soaraway People. MAN CITY - World War Three to break out over the sale of Corluka... Jesus, Keith Andrews ahead of someone Arsene thinks is worth a punt - I mean that's very worrying. I can see Ince's point on "loan with a view" signings especially if he's not 100% confident on his judgement of players without playing a few league games. But for 1.5 million (which is cheaper than the MAD price quoted for Andrews) it seems more than a little unreasonable to go that direction. McCarthy's replacement - positive or negative, in your opinion if you think you can give that much away, please! Sparky's found the grass isn't greener, eh. What a shame. And just as we manage to put together some kind of warchest too. Bear in mind that all the money we think is available to Ince would have been available to Hughes. His Chelsea gambit went horribly wrong and now his new job is going horribly wrong too. I wonder does he regret not staying for next season, especially if he was promised cash and knew that Bents would be going, also for a chunk'o'change. Well, done is done, I guess.
cruz Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 OLD FRIEND - Yes, Keith Andrews is back on the hit list and I believe the manager wants him badly...which might explain Annan and Sable not signing. IF this is true then why does Ince want him badly? Surely there is a reason why he's 28 and nobody has ever paid a penny for him and has graced such giants as Oxford, Stoke, Walsall, Hull and Wimbledon
Roar of the Rover Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 ANNAN - Rovers tried to take him on LOAN after a full-time deal was set up. The kid went home in the huff. 1864roverite Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Well me old muckers, if it is true about Annan or Andrews or rahter Andrews over Annan then it is an unforgiveable tragic footballing decision. There are so many positives in taking Annan whereas taking Andrews is totally negative. If Annan was to sign then the fee is £2m - Andrews is likely to cost the same. Age difference favours Annan. Sellability favours Annan. Skill factor clearly favours Annan. Come on Rovers sort out this mess. There really is no choice, it has to be Annan. As for the others, well, clearly they ahvent done enough to impress. I am going to be in a really fould move if we sign Fowler and Andrews then pass up Annan and Sable.
Eddie Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Can't believe that with Annan...things were starting to look positive...but that's a big blow for me. It isn't that I know he would have done a good job, I've only seen bits of him at the ACN, but to see us mess up someone that we obviously wanted is not good.

OLD FRIEND - Yes, Keith Andrews is back on the hit list and I believe the manager wants him badly...which might explain Annan and Sable not signing. MAN CITY - World War Three to break out over the sale of Corluka... Di Matteo, is not going to be a happy man.(Talk about spuds messing people around) MH to resign as City manager by Christmas or maybe August 31st. Edit. When you disclose the striker to the world. How close to a signing will we be?, or is it just going to be another one coming in for a trial. I have no problem with the club being prudent in the transfer mkt, but this is becoming obsessive in the extreme..
BRFC1995 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 If annan is unproven at premier league level then the same goes for andrews and i would fully expect a loan deal the same as annan was offered. To be fair to ince he has seen the boy annan up close and none of us have, he really can't have been hugely impressive if 1.5m is a risk......he's clearly identified dm as a priority so if this lad ain't the answer i'm sure they'll be another before the window closes. Not a position at the end of last season i thought needed strenghening as vogel although not at full match speed looked a very tidy player. As long as andrews costs nowhere near a million i have no problem as a 2 minute piece on him on tv the other night showed the fella scoring some class goals and regardless of the standard of opposition he showed great technique when in posession.
laughatthedingles Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Got to wonder on two things: 1. How much the board trust Ince if they wont let him spend big, or at all! 2. If its Ince holding back, does he trust himself?
Stuart Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Something doesn't sit right about all this. Ok, Ince knows Andrews inside out but by JW's account, is very impressed with Annan. Given the points made on here since Nicko's early 11 o'clocker, Annan would appear to be the obvious choice? So why isn't he. Could it be that the player (or his agent) is now aware of Arsenal's interest and is now stalling? There must be more to it than what we are seeing...? I'm particularly interested in Hawkiiz' take on this news as [he] was adamant that the trial was only ever a one week thing and that Annan was always set to play for Start this weekend...??
neophox Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 A load of bullshit again. Annan will sign for Rovers, an agreement is reached, just to wait for work permit. Arsenal involvment is nonsense.
Parsonblue Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 If Ince prefers to sign Andrews instead of Annan or have Fowler instead of McCarthy is it any wonder that the club are reluctant to give him money to spend. With a week to go before the start of the League campaign the club seems to be a total mess. Rumours of discontent amongst the players refuse to go away and there is a deafening silence from the manager and club. We finished 7th in the League last season, have had two back to back European campaigns and we seem unable to attract any quality players of Premier League experience with the exception of Robinson - and even he is not the same calibre as the guy he replaced. I am beginning to wonder how many of our established players will still be with us when the transfer window closes. Surely there is little to encourage the likes of Warnock and Santa Cruz that this is a club with ambition. My great fear is that all the progress we have made under Hughes is going to be allowed to drain away and I've certainly seen nothing yet to diminish those fears.
