I think after the remarkable success of Hughes in the transfer market, we all expect Ince to be pulling rabbits out of the hat from the off. No matter which way you look at it, the club are in a rebuilding period, we lost a very good manager and we've taken on someone will similar potential (ie Ince now is like Hughes was four years ago).

Now we just have to sit back and wait and remember that Ince will be going all out to make sure his first big job doesn't go down the pan. Like most Rovers fans, it is terribly distressing to see some of the decisions (certainly potential decisions) being made/considered but at the end of the day his intentions are the same as ours.

The time to initially analyse Ince's decisions in the transfer market will be September the 1st.

The folly of so many clubs in the Prem being next door to skint exactly one year after their media income being doubled to 'atmospheric' levels is nothing short of scandalous and just illustrates the old saying about 'fools and their money'. Lets hope it continues til the entire shabang implodes, a few clubs crash into the buffers at the end of the line, and some sort of sanity is introduced.

SSN saying that West Ham and Man City are battling it out to sign Santa Cruz, They are saying the asking price is 15 million.

If Cruz goes to either I'll personally be on the brink of a mutiny never mind the ruddy players!!

Going to be interesting hearing the reaction Ince gets today................................

As for targets, I will name the striker you are after tomorrow...and this will no doubt greeted with wailing and groaning plus polite applause in some quarters.

Have I missed something? We've not had a decent deep CM for 2-3 years* so why do we need a striker?

* All the plonkers who took the p1ss out of Garry Flitcroft's ability for years must surely now concede that we have never improved on him.

Cue the next 10 pages of this thread being filled with (mostly bad) guesses as to who this may be.

Oh well, I suppose it will distract everyone from the Annan/Andrews debacle.

If we have peed off Annan, and would rather have Andrews, I am not impressed. This is nothing but gut feeling, but Annan is 20 times the player Andrews is, an we could have had a good young midfielder.

As for the striker, I'm thinking Kevin Davies or Louis Saha. I'd not approve of either.

Looks like the Blackburn weather is as gloomy as some of the posters on here...

/me looks out the window at torrential rain

Oh well if Ince does play some of the new players and numerous "trialee's" today they will get a taste of what playing football up narth is like!

As for Nicko's reporting I do honestly think he is saying it as it is, I can't see any reason why he would be doing otherwise, perhaps Ince did see something in this Annan character he didn't like above and beyond his playing capability (perhaps he didn't fit or something with the team).

As for Andrews it does smack of Ince surrounding himself somewhat in the cotton wool of his mates and associates to get through what will probably be a very major culture shift for him as a trainee premiership manager.

I hope he does do well and that we do rise to better things than last year and as for Santa he ain't going nowhere, heaven's sake he has family here now!

Is there any truth that with the link Anatoliy Tymoschuk nicko?

Not heard that one.

But he is 29, just won the UEFA Cup and is about to play in the Champions League for a wealthy club.

So - off the top of my head - I would say that is unlikely.

I know I'm not Nicko, but I wanted to reply.

He is awesome and would be a great defensive midfielder.

He came to Zenit in 2007 for a fee of £10m. I think now after making his Zenit UEFA CUP Champions his Value might be £15m.

Or Sherwood before him.

Correct! Having Garry Flitcroft in his prime last season as a 'getter' would have seen us in Europe now, and Sherwood was at least a class higher than Flitty he was a superb playmaker. Lots of 'trilby's' on the Riverside hated him cos of his hair though..... but I guess most of them have departed this world now.

Remember all the fuss and promises under Souness when Sealdinio was signed - heck there wasnt even a youtub-bettamax video available. What ever happened to him - he either buggered off with Nuclearsoux or beached himself up the Ribble.

Didn't Sealdinho go with Saunders and Graeme to Newcastle as some sort of striker coach? Or is he about to be (re)discovered hiding in the back of RoverTheMoon under 350 boxes full of Rovers Goalkeeping jerseys with CIS on the front? It wouldn't surpise me if the skippery mustachioed rascal was still picking up his £10k a week though.

They were the days when we could sign absolute fictious rubbish and not worry about the consequences. What would be the equivalent in 2008? Signing an unknown South American called Julio?

(Julio Geordio anyone? The ever reliable YouTube (Warning - Not for the Under 5's))

I predict 'muted' to be the likely answer.

A damp and echoey reaction I reckon.

Never seen it before but that is 'well' funny!

btw I could understand the spanish but the other foreign language was beyond me. B)

I could've sworn the post I was replying to said West Ham and City.

WHU might be losing Ashton but unless that happens it doesn't sound to me like they could buy him between them.

Nicko, you mentioned the other day that Alan Smith was going to Everton.Do you know what is happening with regards to that?(hoping against hope that he isn`t the Rovers target that you mentioned  )

The price is as good as agreed...

But the wages are a problem. He is on a fortune.

I think Moyes wants to land a star name first and sneak in Smith at the same time.

Are you gonna be unveiling the striker name in the 11 0' clocker nicko?

In advance, apologies for all the people who get offended with this question but I wasn't sure if Nicko was waiting for tomorrow to reveal this.

An 11 o'clocker sounds about right.

I wonder if the Arsenal thing is a little contrived - not saying Nick is wong - but maybe Annan and his club are putting around rumours to push Rovers a little.

Ultimately if Ince is saying I want to get the very best for our money - then I would be fine with that. Where I struggle with that argument are the continued rumours around Andrews. I can't believe that Andrews can be any better than what we currently have. Lets be honest - and if anyone close to Ince ever reads these pages - this is the single rumour that does the biggest damage to his credibility in the eyes of many Rovers fans. Without the link to Andrews - the rumours of the problems with Annan would not be viewed half as badly.

I know what you are saying DMTP, but in my case it is not quite like that. I am quite prepared to trust Ince's judgement on Andrews (albeit with a bit of trepidation) on the grounds that he has played and worked with him and therefore knows his capabilities. And If Ince thinks he is capable of doing a good job for Rovers I have to accept that, as i said before, with some trepidation.

The Annan fiasco though has just about blown my lid off simply because Ince and JW had both gone public and said he was a good'un and the player wanted to come. Then to go and blow it through sheer stupidity (no other word for it) is downright unprofessionalism and crass mismanagement on the part of all concerned in Rovers camp. I am so angry; think it will take a lot of getting over for me.

I'm surprised Arsenal want Annan as well after already getting Nasri, Bischoff, Ramsey and now looks like they are getting Inler. IMO Ince has messed up here wanting Andrews over Annan. Hopefully, this deal is not yet dead and we do watch him on Sunday and then go straight in with a cash offer before others have a chance. The kid wanted to play for us, Ince has said he had impressed and now we gift him to Arsenal. Why come out and say how good he is if we were not going to snap him up straight away. Just tell other teams how good he is so they can buy him instead!! I am not best pleased at the moment! We had better make amends!
