John Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 If you see the Hughes interview after the Brum game, you can see why he left. Looked so low.

hawkiiz Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Or he had just had enough of Rovers and needed a change - I think the birmingham game last season totally deflated him - and took the first option out - he wanted chelsea but they did not want him so ended up at mad city. he should be ashamed more than anyting else. we lost out of the cup to coventry. they uefa to larissa and the league to birmingham. he certainly had a lot more to prove at rovers. the season before i think we lost agains all the relegated teams.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 If you see the Hughes interview after the Brum game, you can see why he left. Looked so low. Nothing to do with that fact we'd just been thumped by a relegated team and missed out on Europe then?
philipl Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Why do I get the feeling you are talking from experience... What does Sparky do? Quit and save face, say he was duped...or sit and wait for a pay-off that would probably never come? Tough call. I still find it hard to take in that someone as sensible as him was conned by the Mad City big talk. Sometimes you believe what you want to believe. You yourself nicko was explaining that Hughes and Kenyon were using Man City as a point of leverage to force Abramovich to appoint Hughes. I think the big giveaway about Hughes current frame of mind came in the Observer interview when he was asked about the Chelsea job. Bearing in mind that Hughes is only two months into his new job, standard manager speak would have been to say he was flattered by the Chelsea interest but City was the place he REALLY wanted to be. Instead Hughes produced a pat excuse for not getting the Chelsea job and said nothing about City- Chelsea haven't had a british manager since Glenn Hoddle twelve years ago. I have only once been involved in a management team bunk from one company to another. All kinds of different loyalties and pressures emerge and the project of doing the bunk becomes the end in itself. Fortunately in our case, all worked out well but in Hughes' case they leapt into the furnace aided and abetted by Gary Cook who was also committing career suicide in taking the City Executive Chairmanship. Finally, look back two months and did anyone seriously expect the Thai judiciary to see through the prosection of Thaksin with the rigour they are doing? I am not familiar with the country but I have to say, I am impressed by the way the governing pro-Thaksin Party have thrown Thaksin to the wolves. If you see the Hughes interview after the Brum game, you can see why he left. Looked so low. The more I think about that Brum game, the more it stinks to me. Just don't look at what Brad did on all four goals. And we now know that Brad had already talked to Hughes about leaving.
Shevchenko Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Re: the RSC to Villa story. Where would that leave John Carew? Would have thought that the two are too similar to play together. Both are big lads, hold the ball up well and are proven goal scorers. I haven't watched Villa enough but the impression I get is that O'Neill likes to play Carew with two smaller and quicker players around him in a 4-5-1/4-3-3, so would he play both RSC and Carew at the same time then?

You would have to ask Martin O'Neill about that...and if you ever listen to his answers you will be none the wiser by the finish. There will be an 11 o'clocker tonight... One bit of news that will cause screaming and another thing that is a hint of something to cheer people up.
hawkiiz Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 hurray. we will pay top dollar for andrews. wont we? and fowler is on?
rovers1995 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 The one that leaves us screaming better not be a major player getting sold like roque or pedersen or warnock
EwoodGlory Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I still find it hard to take in that someone as sensible as him was conned by the Mad City big talk Thats what i've been finding so hard to understand. Rumour is he went mad when the he found out about the Corluka deal, and then again with the Ireland deal. After the game he told City he wanted out, and they have since called both the players back to the club. Although Spurs claim to have Corluka's registration. Trying to find out where this comes from.
S15 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Yep that's what it is. We are selling one of our best players and the only bloke who knows is a journo who will reveal in a supporters messageboard on a Sunday night after 11pm. (Not a dig at you Nicko, just at the predictable hysteria over your comment. A hysteria that will, I expect, intensify as the day goes on)
Roar of the Rover Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 You would have to ask Martin O'Neill about that...and if you ever listen to his answers you will be none the wiser by the finish. Nicko just tell us please whether it is anything to do with Roque?
Bobby G Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Screaming -> Andrews or Fowler SIGNING IMMINENTLY. "Hint of something to cheer people up" -> Just a rumor of someone we are linked to, which I doubt will materialize.
nicko Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Sorry, to correct any possible scaremongering by using the word 'screaming'... It is NOT a sale.
rovers1995 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Thanks Nicko My guess is it's fowler or andrews signing
Sandiway Blue Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Sorry, to correct any possible scaremongering by using the word 'screaming'... It is NOT a sale. Has to be Andrews coming in then?
rovers1995 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I wouldn't mind Andrews coming because unless he cost a lot he can only improve our squad. I mean this because its one more body in the squad and he's got to be better then mokoena
alexanders Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 If Andrews is coming, I won't scream until the prize is £2+
EwoodGlory Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 btw I've put the full hughes / city rumour thing in the Mark Hughes thread, well worth a read
Majiball Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Fowler to get one year contract, Nicko's Zigic story proves mis-informed and it was acctually Joaquin, who we have bid 12M for.
hawkiiz Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Fowler to get one year contract, Nicko's Zigic story proves mis-informed and it was acctually Joaquin, who we have bid 12M for. as much as i would love to see joaquin, how would a 12m bid cheer anyone up? it will never be accepted
Majiball Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 as much as i would love to see joaquin, how would a 12m bid cheer anyone up? it will never be accepted step up in target, Valencia are stuffed for cash and I'm sure they would rather sell Joaquin than Silva or Villa, you will also notice that I put a wacko emoticon afterwards, in reference to me not being serious in my statement.
mark-atkins-diet Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 The screaming and martin o'neill comments suggest 1 horrible thing. Marlon Harewood
hawkiiz Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 step up in target, Valencia are stuffed for cash and I'm sure they would rather sell Joaquin than Silva or Villa, you will also notice that I put a wacko emoticon afterwards, in reference to me not being serious in my statement. i know. thats why i put the laugh on the beginning. sorry about the misunderstanding
LeChuck Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 One bit of news that will cause screaming and another thing that is a hint of something to cheer people up.[/b] Fowler to be given a permanent deal? If Andrews signs then that's it I think, I'll have absolutely no faith in Ince.
