thenodrog Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Why don't we just sell all the players at the club, and divide the money to the trustees ? The 4 years Mark Hughes was here, the club was finally going somewhere. We felt ambition, we improved year after year, and this was really a key year for hughes to get a little kitty, to make the final adjustments to a great team. Now, if someone would have told me a couple of months ago that we this summer were to lose Hughes, Friedel, Bentley maybe Warnock, and replace them with Robinson, Andrews and Ince's old poker buddy Robbie Fowler and not to mention a managment team from the lowest division, I would laugh my head off. And if I was told that the clubs involved was Man City, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle, my jaw would have slammed to the ground! The club has greatly disappointed me this summer, Ince has already shown me what I needed to know when bringing Fowler in and seriously considering Keith Andrews, I mean, what more info do you need about a manager, really? This is a MAJOR step down for the club, and for the first time in years I feel the club is saying to itself, look at us, were just a small club who cannot compete, we're just satisfied with being in the premier league, we cannot have good players, and we can never keep them. We can never win anything bcause we're so small. The other teams must have lost so much respect for Rovers over the summer, that im on my knees crying. Please bring on the next manager at once. Why waste time? You can't say things like that on here mandrake. There's a fine example of mass self-delusion being practiced at the moment by the locals. Hughes it turns out was actually a knob whose team finished 7th last season but played crap football in a match against Coventry, Friedels become a knob today too and Bentleys just turned into an even bigger one.

RevidgeBlue Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Food for thought. Spurs have already got Aaron Lennon who plays RM, and have already purchased John Bostock, who's favourate position is RM. Bentley wants to play RM, so who is going to miss out... I bet one thing though, i bet Bentley doesnt play as many games next season for Spuds as he did for us last season! Good point. It's ridiculous to say Bentley has become a bad player overnight, (which was the point tnr was making on the other thread) but if he doesn't step up on his efforts from what he produced here last season, he could disappear without trace at Spurs imo.

Dont know too much about Bostock ,but i would think lennons going to spend a large amount of the season on the bench! Lennon has recently said hes stopping at spurs, so it seems hes happy at the moment picking up a wage and going out at weekends! You can't say things like that on here mandrake. Yet still going next season to support our team and MANAGER!
roversnick Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I swear my posts are invisible.... who said that?
21 Rover Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I think Pompey may go for Lennon once Bentley moves, cheaper option than SWP but a very similar player
Hi Mack Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I swear my posts are invisible.... Modric arshavin zokora jenas huddlestone they are all centre midfielders! Bentley will definately play down the right i would think!
thenodrog Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I don't think Jenas will figure much and Huddlestone will need to keep his weight down to figure in that lot. They do have a strong squad now and a good manager I think.

Why waste time? There's so much wrong with that post I don't know where to start. The only thing I agree with is the disappointment at losing Hughes and his team. I complained time and again about the lack of financial backing the Trustees were giving Hughes, and seemingly he eventually had enough and walked out. But that's all water under the bridge now. 1) No-one could really have predicted Villa would come in with such a silly offer for Friedel. I think we've robbed Spurs blind on that deal for Robinson. 2) We agreed to look at Fowler. He hasn't signed. 3) Andrews hasn't signed, nor to the best of my knowledge has the manager even recommended that we should lodge a bid for him. 4) There's no real evidence Warnock is going anywhere. 5) Bentley would have been off regardless of the change of management.

Antgrad Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 This way they can't bid can't talk to him in advance can't enquire - and so can't unsettle him, do you want an unhappy RSC ala Benni last year. Did you know that tapping up is illegal? That never happens either.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 i think he'll be there player of the season if he signs. he's in a different class. I don't think he's THAT good but I suppose we'll see.
Mc Love Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I will be glad if we get near 17 million as nicko reported for Bents as we will have robbed Spuds of robbo and robbed half their transfer budget for an average player
LeChuck Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Food for thought. Spurs have already got Aaron Lennon who plays RM, and have already purchased John Bostock, who's favourate position is RM. Bentley wants to play RM, so who is going to miss out... John Bostock is 16 year olds! I'm sure every club is packed with 16 year olds who want to play right midfield in the first team. He probably won't play regular football for four years or so, I really don't think he needs to be brought in to that equation.
my_name_is_Earl Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Why don't we just sell all the players at the club, and divide the money to the trustees ? And if I was told that the clubs involved was Man City, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle, my jaw would have slammed to the ground! The night is darkest before the dawn (oohhh yeah...from 'The Dark Knight', Harvey Dent) On a side issue, I think Nickos news is quite positive today. Bentley leaving is good for the club and I don't know how anyone can disagree. In any line of employment, nobody likes a whinger like him as they unsettle the rest of the group. Since the day Bentley came out with his drunken rant, the dark clouds have been gathering over Ewood, so just get out Bentley and take your dummy with you. The same applies to Warnock if rumours are to be believed that he wants out. For all those of you who were sad to see Brad leave, are you now reconsidering? Brad's speech was shockingly disrespectful to the club and the fans. I could understand why he would want to move to Villa given the circumstances and i would have happily applauded him when he comes back. However, pissing on us in his press conference today was digraceful. I will netither clap nor boo him when he's back at Ewood - he's just another neutral. Bring on the good times Incey, the fans are with you even though we all know some of the players could care less!
roverfanuk Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 John Bostock is 16 year olds! I'm sure every club is packed with 16 year olds who want to play right midfield in the first team. I dont think he will have given up 1st team footie in the Championship to rott in the Spurs reserves/acadamy... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lets just hope this injury thats kept Bentley from taking part in any pre-season matches doesnt effect the start of his season, or effect his medical... Im pretty sure it wont though!
LeChuck Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I dont think he will have given up 1st team footie in the Championship to rott in the Spurs reserves/acadamy Who said anything about rotting? Hundreds of players swap the opportunity of playing lower league football at a young age to come through the ranks of Premiership clubs, they're all snapped up at a young age now. The lower leagues are hardly littered with exciting young talent, are they? Bostock wasn't a first team regular by any means at Crystal Palace, it's not like he's giving up his place in the first team. Tottenham haven't even bothered to add him in their first team squad list on their website... Still, who needs facts when we have smilies eh?

Tottenham haven't even bothered to add him in their first team squad list on their website... Still, who needs facts when we have smilies eh? I didnt say he was playing regularly yet for Crystal Palace, but he will have been playing more next season if he had stayed, as apposed to stepping into the acadamy with Spurs. He will spend a year at the clubs acadamy and then will go back to the Championship on loan would be my bet, putting his career back a year... As i said, i didnt say he was receiving regular first team football at Palace yet. But hey, no need to read what a person has said when we have the opportunity for sarcasm and arogance is their eh?
LeChuck Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 He will spend a year at the clubs acadamy and then will go back to the Championship on loan would be my bet, putting his career back a year... That would also be my bet...but earlier you said he'll be challenging Bentley and Lennon for a right midfield position next season? I disagree that it sets his career back at all, I think training with the Spurs academy/first team will teach him more than a season in the Championship at 16 would. However, it seems somehow we agree on the main bit; Bostock is realistically at least two years away from challenging Lennon/Bentley.
roverfanuk Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 That would also be my bet...but earlier you said he'll be challenging Bentley and Lennon for a right midfield position next season? Again, no i didnt. I believe i said: Food for thought. Spurs have already got Aaron Lennon who plays RM, and have already purchased John Bostock, who's favourate position is RM. Bentley wants to play RM, so who is going to miss out... Nowhere did i say Bostock would be challenging Bentley and Lennon for a right midfield position. What i was trying to get at was that they are signing RM's or have RM's who they are undoubtably promising a chance to capture RM next season, and chances are, at least two will loose out on that promise...
LeChuck Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Again, no i didnt. I believe i said: Nowhere did i say Bostock would be challenging Bentley and Lennon for a right midfield position. What i was trying to get at was that they are signing RM's or have RM's who they are undoubtably promising a chance to capture RM next season, and chances are, at least two will loose out on that promise... Fair enough, you didn't say it, but it was strongly implied. Why else bring Bostock in to the conversation if you didn't believe he was going to challenge there? You're also making a strong assumption that Bostock is 'on a promise' (hopefully not of the Gary Glitter kind). I'm absolutely certain he won't have been promised a minutes first team football next season, just like the young lads who joined Chelsea from Leeds a couple of years ago and probably countless others that never make it in to the national press. Bostock will know full well he's going there as a 16 year old to learn his trade, not to be playing first team football any time soon. We probably wouldn't even have heard of Bostock if it wasn't for the tribunal case that surrounded it.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 nicko, the NOTW said on Sunday that Mokeona was a 2m target for Stoke and Rigters a target for Sheff Wed. Any mileage in either of those? (He said with champagne corks in hand)
steverovers Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 £2m for the axe??! Brilliant. All this talk of getting rid of The Axe is a joke. He is one of our squad players, nothing more. He is able to fill in anywhere across the midfield and has never been vocal about wanting to leave the club. If we get rid, we will be weaker as a squad. We are already weaker with other comings and goings. To keep dissing him is pathetic. Shame on you all!
