mark1875 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 this board is getting filled up with nonsense now becos the same people keep asking Nicko to accept and admit he was wrong about something that he is neither been proved right or wrong on yet. the fact that he keeps answering it with the same explanation he gave us on friday night suggests quite clearly that he still stands 100% behind what he believes. so why keep asking him? lets drop it - move on and then if/when he is proved wrong, maybe then is the time to see if he will admit it - if u must do.

modes98 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The press are touting us as front-runners as we have a vacancy at right midfield. Pennant wouldn't be my first choice but he's the best of what's available/affordable (unless Spurs stick a For Sale sign in Lennon to fund further spending). According to Nicko, Emerton is being given the right berth to start the season at least. Hopefully when January/next summer comes round there will be better players around. The type of quality we need to replace Bentley won't be cheap and certainly won't be found in the Liverpool rejects bin. Lennon could provide us with something we lack, pace, but once again his crossing is pretty poor. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the AM role in behind Rocky though, but we have Chile for that role.

More important why do they give a #? It just appears childish and petty. Nicko, don't know if you know or not, but do City have to sell players to meet wages and payments owed for earlier purchases of players? Would we be in with a shout of any?
DingleBaiter Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 So all trophies before 1992 are null and void? I meant in terms of expectations, etc. He lacks the self belief to really make his mark at a club that is expected to challenge for trophies. Just seems a bit overawed by it all. It's difficult to word it properly without sounding obnoxious. If it's about managing expectations, maybe have a word with your fellow Liverpool fans. Don't you always expect THIS is your season for winning the Prem? If you think you can get 5 mill for Pennant, good luck to you - Rafa does seem to do well recouping money for players, will give him that. Surely a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay for them? Crikey, we've had enough evidence of paying over t'odds for players who's worth on the pitch was about a couple of smarties. I'd suggest what Liverpool players are worth is anything to get liquidity into your coffers as it's not coming from the Yanks is it? Have they sorted out the finance for the new ground yet, or been blown by the banks again? You may like to think you'd get 6mill for Pennant, possibly still may, but seeing as most clubs can't put their hands on any money getting 3 mill for him if it funds another transfer may actually provide more value then trying to retain pride to get what you think he's worth. I can't even see us stretching past 4 for him? Whatever. I didn't come on here for a cock measuring contest. I just wanted to see if there were any updates on Pennant. Dunno about cocks, plenty of turkeys around though?

Would we be in with a shout of any? That's what Man City have been trying to do for the past few days. Trouble is I don't think the manager is in on the secret.

The Prof. Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Not sure where you got that from. But he's worth a lot more than the 3 million quid I've seen bandied about on here. Sounds like a selling pitch to me? Are you his agent?
modes98 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I have removed some posts, can we not just post random dross with large pictures!
Blue blood Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 "“I don’t think any manager would sign a player on just two days trial - unless they were Lionel Messi or someone like that!" That really worries me. It's fair enough for complete unknowns like Samba and Nelsen were, but we can't keep expecting established international players playing in decent leagues to keep coming here for trials. I'm all for being being prudent, but that's taking it to the extreme and we'll miss out on some very good players with that attitude. Does Ince have no faith whatsoever in his scouting team? My thoughts exactly. It'll be hard enough for rovers to get top quality players, especially given a) the wages/transger fees the likes of Villa, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Tottenham etc can spend, and a new manager unproven at this level, so seeing them get naffed off over our slowness doesn't seem the greatest move. I'm not saying don't scout/check them out, but our caution seems to be hurting our chances of improving the squad. As for Pennant - £3 million or so, yes (he even got 13 assists in the brum team that went down) but any more given his unpredictable nature would be foolish.
PAFELL Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Worried Citeh fans maybe. Interesting thought - if city fold what club would the supporters support then? would they go to Old trafford? - if Rovers went out of business would any of us support the dingles - I for one would not.
TrentVilla Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 He is a good player and there is a 'dispute' involved, but I don't want to say any more on this. The return of Joey 'in dispute' Barton perhaps???
almuncle Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The return of Joey 'in dispute' Barton perhaps??? Or Barry with a deal for Santa Cruz.(hope not)

To an extent I agree - but without having seen top quality players in training for the last few seasons - maybe he thinks "this guy is good, but could I get better for the same money ?" Without really knowing the market - this is a tough call for any manager working on a limited budget. I don't think Ince can win with many fans - if he was overly anxious to spend the Bentley money he would be called for it, currently he is being called for being over cautious - there must be some middle ground somewhere
RoverRich Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Just a thought (before anyone slates me and has a go at me!) could the midfielder be Tymoschuk? Dunno if he is actually in dispute with his club but have a feeling he has told them he wants to go to the Premiership and could that be why the rumours linking him with us started.
Jonnolad Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Don't know if everyone has already seen this but Ince has come out to say “categorically – 100 per cent” that he won’t sell any more players during the transfer window: http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport...y_more_players/ Is this a timed dig at Hughes perchance? Nicko, does this mean the end of any Benni to Sunderland stuff, as well as our interest in that tall striker?
dj54nna Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Are you able to say what he was been black mailed over? Full story is available on BBC news, I've been advised that this shouldn't be discussed further, which is fair enough really. Apologies to the mods. Modes: No pressing for names

Sunderland won't pay silly money for McCarthy...and nobody - as far as I know - has offered for Roque. However I know the manager is still looking for a new striker...so maybe that is precautionary...which is as it should be.
blue and whites Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 nicko: would it be an 11'o clocker tonight, with some interesting news?
nicko Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 nicko: would it be an 11'o clocker tonight, with some interesting news? At a game later, but I'm expecting a call or two re Andrews. If there is news I'll do an 11 o'clock job...if not I'll tell you beforehand.
nicko Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Cheat No, I didn't realised I had left a but in. It's not easy doing this with a phone in one hand and your dinner in the other...
