Nicko not sure if you missed earlier question.. I am presuming that the Santi Cazorla rumours have no foundation whatsoever?

Thought I would ask as he would be ideal.. and the last x number of pages have gone back to anti ince wars.. on the wrong thread of course.

if ince would just let andrews and/or fowler go. and start chasing some major player that we all know are great, then he will win over a lot of the fans right away. it is NO wonder why people jump on him judging by the ambition he is showing - bentley out, no replacement. a man utd talent, and a loanee from chile that is supposed to be good. no big names. not even a proven quality player. the closest is robinson, which i think was super biz.

add to that the shaky pre-season result, even though they dont matter, they do fuel worries.

just hope we win on saturday. thats all that matter.

Name me one big name that Hughes signed that didn't come with baggage ? The only big names I can think of are Bellamy and Santa - but both came with suspect injury records, poor scoring records (in Santa's case) and suspect temperament (Bellamy). It is the reality of our finances - even with the Bentley money.

Hughes got the best out of the players he signed - a few people on this MB don't seem willing to give Ince the same chance to prove he can do that. It could be worse - we could have signed a reserve centre-half from a lower german club, a centre half that even Charlton didn't want or a forward who couldn't even make the grade at Norwich.

BTW - I do agree that Ince could save himself a lot of grief if he gave up plans to sign Fowler and Andrews. But, in reality, we have yet to sign either player - and in Andrews case it is presently speculation (possibly put around to up Andrews value).

When things at the club were horrific, under the reign of Mr Harford I was just a boy. I decided that the reason that we weren't doing well is that we didn't have the best players we could have. So I actually personally wrote a letter by hand suggesting players we should buy to him. Even using a Fantasy Football game from the paper to value each player. This sort of attitude some of you demonstrates the ignorance that I had as a child. A major player that everyone knows is amazing will not want to play for Blackburn Rovers. It is not the easiest fact to accept but it is true.

I don't think there is any argument to the whole 'Ince is an idiot because he let Bentley go' either. The fact remains that Bentley is a moron with the mentality of a spoilt ten year old that after a day trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach cries because it wasn't Alton Towers. With the press responding to Bentley like they do, he had the ability to cause great unrest in the club and in my opinion that can be a huge factor behind poor results. I don't think his half hearted performances this season would have made up for the destruction of squad morale.

Mind you...

Everton have lost out on Vagner Love. Thought they had him on Saturday. Failed to show for a medical yesterday. Total chaos.

They have also had about three other knock-backs in the last 48 hours.

Away win?

Optimism. Now there is a post that is good to read. Thank you.

nicko any update on the annan-andrews topic?

I am hoping there will be a development on Andrews at least. He is due to play for MK Dons tonight unless a fee is agreed. If he is cup-tied it might have an impact on his price...and he could get injured.

There won't be anything on Annan until that one is resolved. Arsenal are the ones making the moves and Wenger won't want him to play for Stabaek in Europe on Thursday [?].

Maybe you should ask why there was less negativity towards Hughes...

Because Hughes had less to lose. He took over when the club was in a rut after Souness and on the brink of relegation and therefore had time to turn the club around to how he wanted it to be, as if we had gone down it would have been due to Souness and not Hughes. Ince has come in when the club is in a positive state so is under pressure to keep the current level up but still needs time to put his stamp on things.

As for Andrews, OK so he wasn't a success at Wolves but who was his manager? Not Ince - maybe Andrews played well for MK Dons as Ince gets the best out of him and that's what he needs. Hugues seemed to manage it with Samba, Bellamy etc so why not Ince. Not saying he is or is not good enough, but some players are rubbish until they find a manager who can get the best from them.

here is where I stand.

I think paul will do a good/fair job ( we should end up about 6th-10th)

some of his action todate, I have not agreeed with, however the season has not even started yet. so give the guy a chance.

AS for nicko, the job that he has, he is bound to be used by people to put over there point of view, sometimes it will be true, other it will not.

WE can judge things when they happen, yes is great for all the stories that may or may not happen and all the views expressed on this board. but lets wait to judge based on facts.

Give him a few games and then make your opion known. Surely that makes sense. You never know, we might be top of the league after two games!

We all know pre-season friendlies are utter garbage and we can't predict the season's outcome from a few half hearted games. Ince is finding his feet and I for one am chuffed to bits that he's not rushing out to buy players in a mad dash.

Hopefully by 4.45pm on Saturday, we'll have put in a good performance, have a three points and can build on it.

My glass is still half full.

Maybe Ince/Andrews would be like Hughes/Zamora. Every window, there was that link with Zamora for something daft like £5m, we'd all groan and dread to see him holding up a blue and white shirt, but then nothing would develop. I just think Annan may be a better option than Andrews, but that is nothing more than guesswork on my part.

I can't believe the Warnock and Roque stories are true after Ince publicly stated that no one else would be leaving, especially key players. If anyone does end up going between now and the transfer window Ince will look a fool, or a liar to the fans.

The statement was the right thing to do as we need stability and there needs to be a message sent out both to the fans and other clubs that we still have some ambition. At the same time this statement will put Ince’s managerial future on the line and his career at Rovers will 'live' or 'die' by his actions.

On Keith Andrews i don't want him at the club and i think he will be a complete waste of money. And the end of the day if Ince wants him then so be it, but i wish he would do it quickly so we can move on.

Isnt there a thread out there for discussing Ince!! Please guys stop cluttering this forum up with excessive chit chat that is irelevant to this thread.

I admit to making that mistake myself a few times in the past but for the last few days its started to get a bit silly..

If he comes out with such a bold statement, and it proves otherwise, he loses credibility. I would rather believe Ince than the papers, as its more about making a statement! Another important player out, and it would be difficult to patch things up...WHATEVER way you look at it.

I agree wholeheartedly with that Bobby G. As it stands at present I would say that the credibility level of Ince and to a slightly lesser extent the whole of the club's board of management is teetering on the edge of total collapse with the mass of Rovers supporters. Maybe that is a bit over the score, but it is how I feel about it all.

Anyway, I certainly feel that if another top level player were to leave or even make noises about wanting to leave then the whole credibilty thing will come crashing down in a big way. Worse than 1960, and that cost Rovers literally 1000's of lost supporters (a lot of them permanently lost). I hope and pray that the statement in the LT that no players will leave for anywhere is the correct line, and that the club stick to it. The consequences of failure in that respect are too terrible to contemplate.

You can't even spell Ray Harford mate...

It wasn't horrific under Harford, at least the players liked him...

Nicko, could it be the case that papers have deliberately listed stories (that you warned were tripe) today just in reaction to Ince's 'no one is leaving' stance yesterday & too have a dig? Surely newspapers don't do such low tricks do they?

Good news on Everton-what's the word on the street ref-Moyes? Always wondered why he wasn't seemingly an option for Rovers, being he still lives local & clearly has a closet love-in for us, being at Ewood so regularly to watch, and with all the shenanigans off-field there, no contract renewal yet etc?

Typo. The R and the T come quite close together and when you type at 80WPM you can occasionally hit between two keys to create a word that a spell checker doesn't pick up. Also it isn't even 11am yet! I only come to life at 11:30. Horrific was potentially an overly strong term. It wasn't exactly the Festival of Golden Sunshine either though was it?

Thank you for pointing that out though. I don't like errors to remain published in the public domain.
