Ewood and I Would Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko's only telling us about stories he has heard or knows about, he is not making choices for Ince. I'm not sure what your point is? Nicko often gives his opinion on Ince's decisions. He was highly critical of how the Annan saga (according to him) was handled by Ince and if I remember correctly there were even a few posters on here who disagreed with his view on it. Ince showed "lack of respect" or something wasn't it Nicko? Many people on here take his rumours as fact and I think often they adopt his opinions too that's all I'm saying. In fact I've seen many people specifically ask for Nicko's opinion on various topics and although he's free to make them (good or bad) my original point stands that if he does judge Ince to make a mistake then we should remember who is the man who's been there and done it (albeit in Div 4). Critisise Nicko and you'll be the first to be told how you're not a journo like him and asked sarcastic questions about where your next scoop's coming from so if he then critisises a professional football manager's decisions he must face be prepared to have his arguments thrown back at him. How much of an ass are you? Yet another mature respose

dlukeg1 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Here we go again! How the hell do you get 'many pundits' from an article by 'ONE' pundit!!!! Go and spread your doom and gloom down at the youth club! Ahh bless yet another who does not allow other to pass opinions and offers insults instead of insight. If you look at a post after mine it refers to others from ssn who have stated they think we will struggle.
92er Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I sense a lot of the frustration with Ince is due to the lack of new face at Ewood Park believe me I can understand this you should have seen our sites a week ago but 3 new faces a week later and all is well in the Villa world. Things can change quickly in football and as an outsider at this stage I wouldn't bet against Ince. We have signed players already-a South American on loan who looks good on DVD, or whatever; a full back on loan who has had mixed reports from supporters of lower division clubs where he has previously been on loan and an ex-England goalkeeper who, according to a coach who regularly gets things right in the Sunday Telegraph, cannot compete against more athletic keepers. Some of us are worried who the next signings might be because of players we are being linked with/or who have been on trial for 6/7 weeks.
hawkiiz Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 ARSENAL/JOHNSON/ANNAN - The Michael Johnson story is wishful thinking from his agent. Arsenal are after other players [plural] and he is not one of them just now. Remember the Gunners are NOT well off which is why they have set up a deal for Inler but need to get into the Champions League to afford it which is why Wenger is delaying on that one. Annan is only a small fee, so that deal is basically down to whether the player wants to go there and take his chances. One of the Norwegian chaps mentioned the other day that he is part-owned by SEM...which is Jerome Anderson, a man with very big Arsenal connections. Has the penny dropped yet about who made the approach to Start last week? He is not owned. but SEM will get a share of the transfer money. agent money sort of.
novella Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 To be fair alot of pundits will predict us to struggle because no one really knows whats going to happen. i dont have the foggiest idea of how this season will pan out for us.
pksrover Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 ANNAN - There has been a pretty big development. The news will have to wait until 11pm. However don't hold your breath if you expect Annan to be joining Rovers. Big guns want Annan Sky Sports are running a story on Man Utd and Arsenal are battling out for Annan. Come on Ince and JW, fork out the money for him!!
Bazrakats Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3970546,00.html is this what you meant about Annan Nicko. Couldnt see this posted already. To slow i guess
ally Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko - is Leroy Lita one of the 'silly names' being banded about for 2 million in the papers??
Hughesy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Still believe that we are in pole position IF we want him. He would rather play 1st team football, but its up to JW and Ince. Id be gutted if he went Arsenal or United and became a star!!
Rover down South Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Big guns want Annan Sky Sports are running a story on Man Utd and Arsenal are battling out for Annan. Come on Ince and JW, fork out the money for him!! Hmmmm. Sounds like his agent is doing overtime on this one! Nicko - is Leroy Lita one of the 'silly names' being banded about for 2 million in the papers?? I wouldn't consider Leroy Lita 'a silly name'. Would rather see him in a rovers shirt than Fowler.
dlukeg1 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 To be fair alot of pundits will predict us to struggle because no one really knows whats going to happen. i dont have the foggiest idea of how this season will pan out for us. I agree wholeheartedly, its a strange one to predict, I think we may struggle and I worry about staff, players, transfers, money etc but I just hope Ince does turn out to be a surprise to us all, if we break it down we have really only lost 2 main players and we have replaced one of them, whilst Bentley was creative he did go missing at times and the rest of the team (and more Emerton) carried him during those times so maybe just maybe we might be ok. And if we do OK theis season and essentially consolidate maybe next season could be the one that pushes us forward. It would just be good to hear something positive from the club or Ince re transfers.......time yet?
The Prof. Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Big guns want Annan Sky Sports are running a story on Man Utd and Arsenal are battling out for Annan. Come on Ince and JW, fork out the money for him!! This is what is making me nervous. Wenger and RFT can spot talent.
RoverRich Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Just as I thought, us not snapping up Annan after the trial has alerted others. It will be pretty annoying to see Annan end up anywhere else in the Premiership after we originally had a perfectly good opportunity to get him. The other clubs still need to watch him so hopefully if we were to bid today or tomorrow we would still be in pole position and, like someone else said, he would probably come to us as he would get first team football. If Annan is good enough for them he HAS to be good enough for us! Go get him Ince!
ally Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Hmmmm. Sounds like his agent is doing overtime on this one! I wouldn't consider Leroy Lita 'a silly name'. Would rather see him in a rovers shirt than Fowler. He is a half decent player but nicko suggested that there were a lot of rumours flying around and some silly people mentioned. Has definately got some pace but i suppose in time we'll see
BlueMG Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko, Was this your 11 O'clocker? That United are interested?
Hughesy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Can already see it. Arsenal or United sign Annan. (Here's what we could have had) Rovers sign Andrews (Here's what you got)
DingleBaiter Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko hasn't made any judgements. All the people who want to pretend things look great keep blaming Nicko for the fact that some others can smell the ###### a mile off... You really are a bundle of positivity aren't you? Instead of saying what's wrong, could you possibly comment on what you think is right at the moment? At the minute you're sounding like the kinda guy that once had copped off with a Z list celebrity when she was young, drunk and not very famous, then got married to Heather from Eastenders and spends the rest of his life thinking 'what could have been'. So, Laudrup was your choice was he? I'm pretty sure he was a lot of people's choice, and for someone so obvious not to have been given the gig suggests there must have been a very good reason why, of which you, Nicko, or anyone may only speculate. Sadly, back to Heather, you can't change what's done; maybe it's time to accept that or get a divorce. BTW - I don't blame Nicko, I blame folks who believe whatever tripe they want to justify their agendas & prejudices. Maybe you'd like to offer what criteria - if any - Ince would have to achieve for you to swallow your prejudices?
Hughesy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 We have already had one - "We wont be held to ransom on the price" - Rumours of £3.5m including all the add-ons. Hardly a massive fee is it!
BlueMG Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Wonder if we get commision for trialing him!!! We invite him over, he gets positive reviews, we let him go, Arsenal interested, Utd interested. Take your pick Annan. £££'s (up)
American Rover12 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Mind you... Everton have lost out on Vagner Love. Thought they had him on Saturday. Failed to show for a medical yesterday. Total chaos. They have also had about three other knock-backs in the last 48 hours. Away win? That's the spirit.
mark-atkins-diet Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 a few reminders for some of the regular posters on this thread 1. Nicko is a Journalist. 2. Journalism is the reporting of information a Journalist believes to be true and relevant. 3. Good Journalism is never biased, only fact based. (surely the friedel/robinson/bentley info shows nicko is no liar) 4. Situations can change, this doesn't make journalists liars. Now for Ince... What exactly has the man done wrong? friedel was allowed to leave by jw (after giving what were certainly the best years of his career to rovers) when offered a monster contract by villa. bentley had made his feelings known before ince was appointed. NO OTHER PLAYERS HAVE BEEN SOLD I have only been able to go to the macclesfield and NAC games but i thought as far as pre-seqason games go there was plenty to be optimistic about. It looks like Ince is prepared to give our youth players a real chance (Treacy, Judge and Doran all featuring against NAC). This is fantastic and as much as i loved Hughes, it's something he rarely did. Many on here may say this was because they aren't good enough, but we have brought them through so give them a chance rather than signing the likes of rigters! I have my tickets for saturday and will be supporting rovers and ince 100%. win or lose, ince needs all our support because there are many in the media who will be gagging for the fans to turn on him. lets not let that happen rant over x
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 On the Keith Andrews issue, aren't MK Dons playing Norwich tonight in the carling cup? If Andrews isn't in the starting 11 or subs then it might indicate something is going on behind the scenes.
my_name_is_Earl Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I would think that if we finish between 8th and 11th, Ince would have made a good start. Also a good cup run would not go amiss after last season's shenanighans. I do believe that if Ince finished in these positions, then next summer would be a very different proposition as we could almost certainly say that after a year in charge, the squad will be more united and Ince will almost certainly have more control over footballing matters. Perhaps the press would not be so quick to sugget that everyone is going to leave etc as well. I genuinely believe we have a squad capable of a top ten finish and a cup win though it will be tough in Ince's first season. I think the players, the board and the fans need to unite and give him at least half a season to be comfortable mid-table and then let him build from there.
