Rovermatt Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Zokora? Jenas? Modric? Huddlestone? Lennon? Bentley is not better than Modric.

The Prof. Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Yes but don't forget Bentley wanted to leave and made life painful for the new management. He was a good player but here he was a big fish in a little bowl, at Spurs he'll just be in a big aquarium and won't get the 'missing' games when he gets marked out. He won't be there 18 months from now. Either he'll settle down and achieve top four with a top four club or be off again. People were just the same when Duff went. What I really liked about him was he learned quickly and that might be enough but 2 or 3 poor games and he's benched at Spurs. What I like about him now is he's gone and we have £12m to replace him with. A luxury never afforded to Hughes. Freidel was, is and always will be in my book a true gentleman and professional.
nicko Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Not sure that "Man City do not have that kind of money" and "I don't believe City have the money" can be classed as TWO good reasons!!! No, that's one. The other is not for public consumption. Cheers.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Bentley is not better than Modric. We'll judge at the end of the season. For now we'll have to agree to disagree.
nicko Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Nicko, Any substance to Rovers being interested in Duff. (Warnock not being part of the transfer) I understand that Duff also has some sort of problem with international clearance due to medicine being used to combat hay fever. Put it this way...the Warnock-Duff thing still has legs. Not sure about Duffer's medicinal issues. It's his overall fitness that was always a concern.
Esulx Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Nicko, how close to the touted £17-18m asking price for Bentley are the Spuds likely to get? I have a feeling this will be a down-payment £12m with add-ons.
laughatthedingles Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Nicko, I take it the warnock twist is that Williams will put his foot down, by that do you mean he will not let ince sell him? is/was ince quite keen then?
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Nicko, how close to the touted £17-18m asking price for Bentley are the Spuds likely to get? I have a feeling this will be a down-payment £12m with add-ons. £12m and add-ons to £15 million say if they reach the champions league is a crap deal and if we have agreed to it then we have lost out. Some papers reckon its £15 million going close to £18 million with add-ons.
hawkiiz Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 it must be more than 12 plus addy? or if it is, what addys are they? england caps? goals? assists? europe cups? silverware?
nicko Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 £12m and add-ons to £15 million say if they reach the champions league is a crap deal and if we have agreed to it then we have lost out. Some papers reckon its £15 million going close to £18 million with add-ons. I think it will reach the figure Rovers wanted. The £15 million plus £2-3 million extras has echoes with the Duff sale all those years ago - and it is a reasonable comparison. One way or another Arsenal get a slice of the money handed over. Still waiting to see if that official percentage is revealed.
The Prof. Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 For £18m I'd drive him down myself! Good deal Rovers. Hope we spend it on quality.
Ronin Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Just for the terminally neurotic - which probably includes me. Just watching the end of the Spurs show on Sky Sports News and the southern Journo who was reviewing transfers finally said a few words about Rovers (didn't catch it all so someone else might be kind enough to oblige) but the gist of it was; - You just know Blackburn will replace Bentley - Ince will end proving himself an 'inspirational manager' - they'll just keep on going and prove a force again next season Best bit - "there is something inside that club" There may not be anything left 'inside that club' if every bugger keeps trying to buy our best players.
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I forgot about him! He would be good for a goal or two though wouldn't he? There's nobody more than me who would love to see Robbie replicate his Spurs form in another shirt (a green one ) but Keane at Spurs hoovered up a lot of goals from scrappy situations, unfortuately for liverpool () I can't see him getting these chances as Torres will still get the bulk of the chances. Going back to our original point, it now looks like Fulham will take the crown though! (Sorry for going slightly off topic)
yoda Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 There may not be anything left 'inside that club' if every bugger keeps trying to buy our best players. The some thing inside is JW and what what Jack also instilled
AJW Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 NICKO DO YOU THINK WE WILL BREAK OUR TRANSFER RECORD FOR ANY OF THE PLAYERS WE ARE WATCHING?
AndyC Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 NICKO DO YOU THINK WE WILL BREAK OUR TRANSFER RECORD FOR ANY OF THE PLAYERS WE ARE WATCHING? what is our record?
steven Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 £8m for Andy Cole I don't think you need Nicko to tell you then answer to that will be no!
Flopsy Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 NICKO DO YOU THINK WE WILL BREAK OUR TRANSFER RECORD FOR ANY OF THE PLAYERS WE ARE WATCHING? STOP BLOODY SHOUTING PLEASE!!
Ewood and I Would Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 £8m for Andy Cole Technically it will be Bentley when he completes his move to Spurs. I remember Nicko saying he's already cost us £3m in sign on fee and add-ons and now it looks like another £8m might be added to that if this 50% sell on clause exists. DB's total cost should top £10m...

Still waiting to see if that official percentage is revealed. I presume Rovers could add their own sell on clause into the sale- so if spurs sell Bentley in a fews years time, when he throws his dummy out again, rovers could get some money from the sale the same as Arsenal now. If that did happen, would arsenal still have a claim?
roverfanuk Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Fulham have just completed the signing of Stoor...
rebelmswar Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I don't believe City have the money to afford Roque - unless they sell Micah Richards. Swap deal!
mattyboy6000 Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Fulham have just completed the signing of Stoor... Blackburn have done what?
