PAFELL Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 If you run a business by guessing what a putative buyer may or may not want, you end up with no business. I think this scenario is so unlikely as to be struck off as a possible explanation. Therefore you must really believe that JW is delberatly holding funds back from Paul Ince. If that is the case it raises another question - why appoint Ince in the first place and then with hold funds from him? Surely that is not the way to run a football club!!!!!!!! A policy like this is setting up your newly appointed manager - his team and the club to fail - because of the lack of funding.

Someone who was not used to splashing big transfer fees about.
roversinmyblood Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 What if there is a takeover interest and the one interested wants as much debt cleared as possible - what if the debt - no matter how small is what has held up, say for example the Chowdrey takeover. Surely an investor would want to invest in the club and not have to pay debts created by others. It has seemed that making the potential new owners take on the debt as well as buy the club has put them off. May be by clearing the debt it is a way of making the club a more attractive proposition.
Dan Furness Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Maybe that's why Ince was appointed rather than the other 'names'. Someone who was not used to splashing big transfer fees about. If they dont splash some funds they could find themself in the position of not being able to be a competitor again - ever. If we dont strengthen we are in serious trouble.
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Keith Andrews news...you can decide if it is good or bad. As of an hour ago Rovers are refusing to pay the £2 million asking price. Andrews is unhappy about this and we shall see if he plays tonight or goes on strike. I suspect that he will play. Andrews thinks it is too dear - and so does your manager. The latest I hear is that he will let his contract run down and go for nothing next summer. This is a tactic aimed at making MK Dons drop the price. It does seem high...if it lowers then this will happen. Watch this space.

Head Rover Heels Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Keith Andrews news...you can decide if it is good or bad. Good news if you ask me - MK obviously want a piece of our cash, just because of the Hughes and Bentley money. I bet they wouldn't ask 2m of Barnsley et al. Glad we're standing firm and not throwing it around.

A policy like this is setting up your newly appointed manager - his team and the club to fail - because of the lack of funding. That was the inference in my rhetorical question whether Sparky would have reached the last week of pre-season with 75% of the transfer funds unspent. The alternative hypotheses are equally scary: - Ince found he and his team are totally out of touch with Premiership life and potential transfer targets (Ince had a spell at Wolves before going to Macclesfield so he is five years out of top level football) - Ince and the pensioners have no meaningful/useful networks - Ince himself is so scared of making a decision he won't make one - Ince and pensioners don't command the same attention and respect at Premier League/ La Liga etc level as Sparky did so cannot attract the same calibre players, As I've previously commented, Hughes personal relationship brought us Bellamy; Ince is bringing dear old Robbie Fowler and perhaps Keith Andrews. Here's hoping we get a huge nice surprise new signing who has slipped right through the radar.
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Any good news coming our way??? Please! Yes, it might stop raining later.
roversinmyblood Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I wasn't thrilled when Hughes was appointed, nor for that matter Souness, but given time they both achieved success. We haven't even played a game yet and yet poeple want to sack Ince. Who is to say that if we had had Nicko's inside information when Hughes was first appointed we wouldn't have heard the same talk of unrest. I am sure that the players had a shock when Souness came in and his training methods seemed to date back to the Liverpool Hey days - so not exactly up to date. If the team start playing well and picking up good results everything will be forgotten and the only players upset will be those that are not playing. Give the guy a chance.
Hi Mack Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko, Not your fault but recently you have been the bearer of bad news.....! Only because all our news seems to be bad news at the moment? Any news on Kenneth?
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 We look like a complete laughing stock at this moment in time. Messageboards of other clubs cannot believe what the hell is going on and the fans of other clubs think they can just come and raid our club. And don't get me started on some parts of the media who think we should just bend over and let the clubs take our players. Time for Ince and JW to stand by their comments and put their foot down.

Here's hoping we get a huge nice surprise new signing who has slipped right through the radar. Hence Ince using the younger players to see what he has already - this gives him and the pensioners time to look around. Has Archie Knox no knowledge - is he not there to help Ince. Do you think JW realises he has made a mistake and is now wanting Ince to fail on the football side of things - in publc view - and then get rid of him.
ace Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Yes, it might stop raining later. Met Office just issued a weather warning for East Lancs.."Monsoon expected shortly!"

All the players came out and supported Hughes! Friedel and Warnock have for Ince! Our Best 2-3 players didnt want to leave when Hughes joined! In the midst of the madness I forgot to check...leave that with me. You do know this is above everyone's head? Totally..........Even mine!
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Met Office just issued a weather warning for East Lancs.."Monsoon expected shortly!" Is that for a trial or is this one a full-time deal?
gbax Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Yes, it might stop raining later. That's bad news - it means Lancashire will have to play cricket and get beat. While it rains we're not losing!
ace Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Is that for a trial or is this one a full-time deal? On loan for a short period from Thailand!

DingleBaiter Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Andrews thinks it is too dear - and so does your manager. Watch this space. Cheers Nicko - is this the first time in history a footballer thinks he is over-valued, or does he have a under-inflated opinion of himself (one that seems to match the pitchforkers' on here)? Nicko, you've hinted at issues behind the scenes at Rovers - leaks, Warnock being unsettled, not exactly dispelling the Mail stories, allegories of moles, how stories are breaking etc. - all which would seemingly concern to us. Added to your comment about not knowing anything like this, was you around to the same degree (sources, inside info, etc,) under Harford, Kidd &Hodgson's regimes, and how does it compare? Excuse me asking (if it's a well known fact) but how long have you been privy to the level of access you seemingly have to things going on at Ewood? Not suggesting anything other than wondering if you could equally compare what you're aware of now, to say the Batty/Parkes/Le Saux-Sutton-Sherwood/McKinlay shenanigans? For instance, knowing how much Souness broke down certain relationships at Brockhall & Ewood, I would suggest there was a lot of negative stuff flying around then too? If it's the case that Ince has already had an equal effect, I'd be worried to say the least.
G Somerset Rover Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 We look like a complete laughing stock at this moment in time. And don't get me started on some parts of the media who think we should just bend over and let the clubs take our players. Time for Ince and JW to stand by their comments and put their foot down. My feelings too. Alongside City we really are a laughing stock right now. Teams will really fancy their chances against us right now and it's Ince's job to get the lads up for it. But right now all we hear is rumours of unrest, which keep being proved right. Who the hell is going to want to join us at Ewood Park when, Ince's chums aside, all the talk is of players looking to jump ship? I realise that this is an extremely negative post, but it seems like there's just more bad news after more bad news. If the club ever needed to pull off a high-profile, quality INCOMING transfer then this is it.
leftfooter Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 But I have got to say I have never known so many stories flying around the club than there are right now. I try to trace back where things come from and to get the strength of them before I commit to print. But I have to repeat that this is like the Wild West at the moment...players coming and going and leaving and not coming. Without mentioning names Nicko, could you put a number on how many players are causing all this newspaper chatter?
