[Archived] Nickos Thread

Is the transfer request definite? If not, this story hasn't changed for a couple of weeks when Nicko stated it still 'had legs' so I'm quite surprise by the major panic.

Good point, I'm just assuming the SSN story is correct and might be slagging Warnock off on the other thread for nothing.

There is no comparison between Friedel/Bentley and Warnock.

We weren't to know Villa would offer Friedel a ludicrous sum of money but then saw a one off opportunity to replace him.

Bentley was always going regardless of the manager - we got a decent price for him, and imo we wouldn't have got a performance out of him this season had he stayed.

There is however no possible upside to selling the outstandingly consistent Warnock for what wouldn't be a particularly large fee, given his value to us..

I suspect Ince pre-empted this development by announcing yesterday that that no more payers would be leaving "100%."

I expect him and John Williams to stick to that.

Well said.

My only caveat is in regard to Warnock, who sullied his reputation in my book, by mouthing off to the press once Hughes had slung his hook.

There are obviously more than a few 'bad apples' currently within the ranks.

It isn't yet public knowledge who these particular individuals are.

I would ask; if he (Warnock) is so impetuous when speaking to the press, what on earth must he be like within the confines of the changing room?

The alternative hypotheses are equally scary:

- Ince found he and his team are totally out of touch with Premiership life and potential transfer targets (Ince had a spell at Wolves before going to Macclesfield so he is five years out of top level football)

- Ince and the pensioners have no meaningful/useful networks

- Ince himself is so scared of making a decision he won't make one

- Ince and pensioners don't command the same attention and respect at Premier League/ La Liga etc level as Sparky did so cannot attract the same calibre players,

As I've previously commented, Hughes personal relationship brought us Bellamy; Ince is bringing dear old Robbie Fowler and perhaps Keith Andrews.

Here's hoping we get a huge nice surprise new signing who has slipped right through the radar.

Ince + the pensioners do have contacts their past their sell-by-date mates and lower league players

Carling Cup is not for Andrews anyway. Premier league sides are used to give reserve players chance to play those matches. :P

haha we wont have a squad big enough to play our reserves once the entire first team gets sold. we will just have the reserve first 11 and 7 youth subs.

Ince wasn’t my 1st choice ( infact he wouldn’t of even of been on my shortlist), However, you have to feel sorry for the guy if his best players are walking out on him due to the turmoil at boardroom level and then not been given any proper transfer to replace the & improve the squad.

You could easily be a City fan.........

funily enough, I was just talking to my mate who's a big Everton fan, they're having much the same issues with their board/funding.

Expect them to be in big trouble/Moyes to walk about Christmas if he doesnt get the funding

Who could have predicted Moyes and Hughes both down at the unemployment office at the end of last season?

Nicko, the Mail is usually wide off the mark but is this correct, always rated him as a decent defender....

Ince is believed to be ready to listen to offers for Georgian defender Zurab Khizanishvili.

Ince liked Axe as a central defender. There´s still Nolan and Flynn. Does anyone want to see Axe with Samba, Nelsen or Ooijer??? I get my coat..

it seems that there are a load of clubs that appear to be in a spot of trouble at the moment.

Everton (possible trouble ahead)

Man City (good chance they are screwed)

Arsenal (not too much trouble but lost a few of their decent players).

Personally cant see the 3 promoted teams being much kop.

Bolton havent really improved their squad.

Newcastle havent really sorted any of their defensive problems out.

tougher teams this season will be villa, spurs and boro. Boro are gonna surprise a few this season IMO.

i think my point is heads up lads. with our current squad we can beat the lot of them.

So by the looks of things we will not get Annan, we will not get Andrews, we will not get anyone to replace Bentley but we will sign Fowler. Are we actually going to get any midfielders/required players in? Now to top it off we have Warnock supposedly putting in a transfer request and Ince preferring Mokoena over Zurab in defence. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon of those slating Ince before we play a competitive match but its not looking good is it?! If results don't go his way he will be out of a job pretty quickly! Come on Incey, get a grip and get some quality in!

I'd like to keep Zurab. Solid, reliable and doesn't seem to complain when he is not picked. He just gets on with it.

I can tell you that this pre-season has not been easy for me. I'm convinced I have some level of bi-polar depression going on! Happy after Ince signed, depressed with the links with Fowler and Andrews, happy after Robinson signed and now fuming about Warnock and his transfer request. It is awful. I hate football and Blackburn for doing this to me.

Anyway, are there any 11 o'clockers tonight?

Perhaps he can't. We don't know for sure how much he has to spend and if you look at the fact we brought in two players on loan, looking to bring in a striker on a free plus turning down what looks like a cheap price for Annan you have to wonder what sort of budget we have?

Perhaps our budget is more £5 million than £15-20 million?
