Mozzer Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 before we got warnock, im sure hughes was monitoring paul konchesky-i was actually in favour of us signing konchesky over warnock.. i think konchesky is a decent left back who has represented england a few times..

steverovers Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Now thats a joke, truely a joke! That's right , change the manager every 5 minutes. We all know where that lands you! That's why we have done so well for the last few years - stability. Don't sack the manager at the first hint of trouble.
Zulu Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 That's right , change the manager every 5 minutes. We all know where that lands you! Indeed. Tyneside.
Greedy_Crawford Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Not posted all summer, just catching up. Easy to get depressed reading all the stuff posted on here. IMO football in general has gone a bit mental this summer and I see a major financial crash coming in the next 2 to 3 years. Clearly we have money to spend, but got a new manager who appears not to have found his feet yet in the transfer market. A couple of good results and all will be forgotten. A bad start and pressure on Incey. To be fair though, if Sparky was still here it would be the same scenario as funnily enough its results that matter. I wil reserve judgement on the new regime until I see it in the flesh. Please tell me its not as bad as it sounds.....

Roar of the Rover Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Run that by us again Roar. The game on saturday is a MUST MUST MUST win now for Ince. Draw is the minimum requirement. So who would you lot like to draw in CL next season? I was thinking Barca in the group stages might be a good draw?
Lurid Coat Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Konchesky was possibly the worst player for West Ham during their horrendous 2006/07 season. I don't think he ever managed to pass the ball to a teammate, and all his crosses went flying into the river Thames. Absolutely horrible news if this is true.
steverovers Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I was thinking Barca in the group stages might be a good draw? I'm hoping for a 'good draw' against Everton!
DingleBaiter Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 It seems this is just devilment on your part Nicko, you love it don't you? Keeping us on tenterhooks then kicking us in the nadgers; we all must have a touch of the Max Moseley it seems. Can you clarify the situation with Warnock? For instance, is it just that Newcastle wanted him, he was content but he's just become unsettled with all the interest? Or, once Hughes went, do you think he got his agent to tart him around? As you said at the time, it's been hovering about for a good while so something hasn't discouraged them. Felt he was a bit naive to say what he said when Hughes went, then he tried covering it up with a rallying cry. I seem to suspect the latter, he probably felt the only way was down after MH left and his stock was the highest it would be. Reason I ask for clarity is it would be easy to blame this on Ince, but it's been around that long that I feel it maybe could be a minor factor, but certainly not the reason if he wants away. End of day, it seems Newc either can't match the money we're looking for OR they've overestimated who is in a position of strength here. He's under contract, an England international and got to trust JW to get the better deal for the club than Ashley. Then again the conspiracy theorists will no doubt suggest it's something to do with the old club shop, Sports World, Lonsdale & Umbro deals. Bottom line - if he wants to go, it should only be for the right deal, but we do need to start seeing the colour of someone's green soon. Can't really see Konschesky being a good candidate either as a squad member or first spot, unless he's available on a bargain deal. Think he's too much of a Lahndahn lad, rather see Olsson given his chance - Hughes rated him enough. If our defensive coach can't bring through a lad in his own position, it's a poor do. That said, maybe Winterburn knows Konchesky (West Ham days?) so he's tipped Ince off? Struggling for some good news here, can only think Konker was on the old list Hughes left, as he'd been linked with him several times during his time here. I saw Ripley the other day, he still looks in good shape - at this rate he'll be getting the call as our star RW signing.
Bobby G Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 When a manager comes in with authority, players take a back seat and listen. We all knew this was a critical summer and we were worried about player unrest, but not to this amount. We wanted the ship to be stable and some people said Big Sam was the man for the job. How many of us think he wouldve taken a back seat to his players one by one asking to leave? Warnock is the straw that broke the camels back! I cannot believe the summer and Im not sure on what planet being linked with Konchesky would cheer someone up. We have become a grocery store for most teams. If we keep our team together and sign one or two quality players, then we could sneak up on some of the teams around us who havent had the best of summers but we have had an atrocious one till now. Andrews? Fowler? Konchesky? I would rather be linked to fantasy players and not sign them, than this. Zurab for sale? Mokoena at center back? I would take Baines over Konchesky any day as well. Ince doesnt seem to have the presence to stake his authority onto this team. From the outside it seems this way. How else would the club captain come out with such a statement and players left, right and center giving out signals of unrest, and so forth. Sick to my stomach. PS. What does it say to the REMAINING "assets" such as MGP and Roque, Samba, & Emerton, when any player that desires can just leave?
VillaSimon Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko, There is an article going round saying Villa to buy milner for £6m and then Newcastle to use the money for Warnock, have you heard anything?
hawkiiz Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 get pennant in already and make a bid for annan. if all the huge clubs i hear in norwegian press are after him, he must be better than i think. get him on before he gets to expencieve. throw in a bid now and try to delay it past thursday. that way a lot of the clubs may lose interest because of the uefa-cup thing. 2-3 million for a player wanted by a lot of the major clubs around europe is a bargain. i REALLY hope carlos is as good as he seems. him and pennant could for a great midfield together with gamst, dunny and whoever will be the 5th one, no?
Hughesy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 As a future star, I think Danny Haynes at Ipswich is looking very good - would be a decent signing to bring in for the future.
BRFC1995 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 having only seen olssen play about 20 minutes, it was more than enough to see he has way more than Konchesky. However if we hopefully take a stance with warnock this will never need considering.
Roversboy1972 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 ANDREWS - As you know, the valuations are still apart. ANNAN - Racing Santander have offered #2 million on or so...biggest bid yet. Arsenal still want him but don't want hyim to play on Thursday. I don't know of a Rovers bid...yet. WARNOCK - As stated before, wants out but Newcastle are only talking #4.5 million. It will take more. REPLACEMENT - Paul Konchesky at Fulham is the name being pursued. I hoped it was for cover. FOWLER - D-Day on Thursday I believe. I think he will get a deal. PENNANT - No nearer, but I have a feeling that one could happen just to 'raise spirits.' Sorry that the pound signs aren't working. Dropped the laptop earlier. MONEY - Yes, there is plenty. And not many can say that. Good night. NICKO WAT,S GOING ON DOWN AT EWOOD THEY ALL WANT TO LEAVE WE WILL HAVE NO PLAYERS LEFT AT THIS RATE .IS IT INCE THE PLAYERS DONT RESPECT HIM OR WAT .I CAN SEE THIS BEING A HELL OF ALONG SEASON I DONT THINK INCE CAN SPOT A GOOD PLAYER HE KEEPS LET TING ALL THE GOOD ONE ,S THOUGH HIS BLOODY NET COME BACK HUGHES ALL IS FORGIVEN
gazsimm Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 i am gutted, i think the club should be doing more to help keep hold of our star players. Not looking good for Ince and were is the bloody money we ment to have. I was hoping for another top 10 finish this season and now i will be happy if we actually stay up thats how bad it is at the moment. AND BY THE WAY IT'S NOT INCE"S FAULT, IT'S THE BOARD FOR ACTUALLY LETTING THIS HAPPEN!!!! THANK GOD I DID NOT PURCHASE A SEASON TICKET THIS SEASON
BRFC1995 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 not really a footballing reason not to buy him, but konchesky does look evil, in a i'm not hard enough to throw a punch but i'll stab yer when your not looking kind of way. crazy eyes.
J*B Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Someone.. Please put me out of my misery and kill me before Saturday afternoon This ISNT looking pretty.
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Nicko, There is an article going round saying Villa to buy milner for £6m and then Newcastle to use the money for Warnock, have you heard anything? Milner and Villa has been on for some time...maybe they have agreed a fee...but it would have to be a lot more than 6 million. If Newcastle get to 5 million for Warnock that could happen. I think Warnock is a good player, but not great. He can tackle but he can't play. If you get a better player, fair enough. Is that Konchesky? No.
Kai Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I agree with you. Olsson over Konchesky any day. Olsson, at least, has pace. Konchesky is a bald version of Kevin Kilbane. With even less ability. Konchesky is awful and the only reason he's a footballer is because he happens to be left footed (and possibly English). If he was a right back I doubt he'd even make the grade at Championship level. He's been sold on twice by Curbishley too, while Curbishley is a bit of a joker even he could tell Konchesky is just crap. He's a bit rash too and due to his lack of movement/pace/agility gets caught out a lot and can only stop someone by fouling them. He will get us a lot of yellows and reds. Just no.
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 And, by the way, you are probably in better shape than Everton. Keep the head. You win on Saturday and suddenly the world is a better place. You lose and the Sunday People may be a paper to avoid for a change...
Lurid Coat Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 The act of actually considering signing Konchesky is criminal in my book, and should lead to public ridicule of the person(s) behind this.
JamieUK Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 We are desperately needing a big signing to show we still have ambition. Bolton have done it by signing Elmander for £10m+ (Ok I accept he's not worth anywhere near that but it shows their intent), Villa are quietly sorting out their weakest link by bringing in 3 decent / good players in Young, Shorey & Cuellar, etc, etc. Maybe out of our league but Baptista is seemingly on his way out of Madrid for around £7m and with wage demands in our budget if not Roma's: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11827_3972198,00.html For me we going backwards by standing still and we need to do something big to get the fans on Ince's side. Edit - Just seen Eddie's thread. Great minds?!

You win on Saturday and suddenly the world is a better place. You lose and the Sunday People may be a paper to avoid for a change... NICKO I CANT SEE A WIN IN OUR 1ST THREE GAMES THATS HOW I FEEL AND BEING BUYING A SEASON TICKET FOR 20 YEAR NOW I THINK WE GO DOWN AND THERE,S NO WAY BACK FOR US
nicko Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 This is worth a read...it's not often that I salute Daily Mail for standing their ground... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...ay-players.html The Mark Hughes stuff is very accurate.
