Realistic options are pennant, lennon, or larson. I wouldnt mind any of them, but i wud prefer lennon if i had to choose one. Milnerwould be a good signing.

Well I hope you don't get Milner although who knows if Newcastle are interested in Warnock.

Pennant, Larsson, Lennon.... well I guess Lennon would have been part of a deal for Bentley if Ince was interested. So that leaves Pennant and Larsson guess it comes down to cost and personal choice.

How about Johnson from Man City? I'd imagine that would be rather sweet to go and sign him from Man City?

Nicko, with annan being passed over and MK Dons adamant over the fee for Andrews is Ince looking seriously at other CM targets or is he just hoping that MK dons reduce their price on or before the eve of the transfer window?

I wish I could tell you...and I have an awful feeling you will be asking the same question for a while longer because there isn't much sign of progress.

There is always the chance of a kneejerk job and going in for a Steve Davis or someone like that - just because they are available.

I don't know that, but transfers like that happen when there are vacancies and no-one filling them.

Nicko,

Do we need to read anything into these delays and half starts on signings or is it just Ince and Williams playing hard ball to get the best deals?

Better no more signings than knee jerks.

On the Fowler front people should bear in mind there will be seven slots on the bench next season so there is more choice needed. Just hope that a pay as you play deal is based on actually getting off the bench .....

As for Andrews if he is good enough then maybe we have to pay the asking price.

Seeing as we picked up thirteen points from a possible eighteen from the bottom 3 last year he obviously can.

i am pretty confident that statistic do not apply if you look at the table at the time we played them. of coure with our help, many of those who WERE bottom three stayed up. and certainly the season before we were absolute rubbish against lesser teams.

oh.. and add larissa and coventry to it.

Who would you go for by choice?

Larsson, purely for the fact that i think out of the two he is the one who will improve and would work best with Simpson/Emerton. Pennant has had chances and shown that he isn't really that fussed, he has a bit of skill but nothing you can't get elsewhere for cheaper.

Edit: As mentioned above Knightly from Wolves looks a decent player.

Also on the SA call ups, at least they are only in London and fall in between league games. They will hopefully help Benni to regain his full match fitness and sharpeness.

Ince doesn't seem to rate Vogel, Tugay can only be used spairingly, Mokoena and Reid are not up to the task of a defensive midfielder so we desperately need a DM - hopefully a class one to give the team (and supporters) a boost.

It is very worrying that at this late stage alternatives are not being strongly pursued.

hmm. nicko. seeing that Annan will not come, and he IS a very decent player. does this mean we will go for a REAL proven DM? someone that will no doubt raise the spirits around here?

Where's that applause smiley?

Pennant would be a panic buy in my opinion - Bought purely because he's a winger and a name. The sort of signing you would make to appease a bunch of screaming fans who wanted a name, rather than someone who would fit. If he goes on to be brilliant in the future, then he is one player i would hold my hands up an admit to judging incredibly badly.

As it is, i stand by the fact that he's an incredibly bad player.

I agree Pennant is not the answer . From what I have heard Ince likes to line up with one up front with an attacking midfielder and wingers suporting. If thats the case then we need someone with pace on that right wing as we clearly dont have it on the left . With this in mind I also would rule out Larson from big club. He doesnt strike me as a natural out and out winger, he is a reasonable player though just doesnt offer enought difference to what we already have.

At least you wouldn't get the off the field issues with Larsson you'd get with Pennant.

Now Knightly is a good call, seen a fair bit of him and he is a talent we've been linked with him in the past. Ince had a spell at Wolves so he might even have contacts there.

Although I would prefer Lennon, this video has appeased me a little about Pennant - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqDqGM_r8ow

He'll never match the Bentley/Beckham accuracy of crossing, but maybe we are looking at it the wrong way. Bentley normally whipped crosses in from the sideline, but Pennant has more pace and perhaps he could, as shown in the videos, be just as effective as Bentley if he nullifies the fact that he can't cross with runs to the byline and squaring it for the likes of RSC and McCarthy. His pace means it's easy for him to get past the wing backs and then all he needs to do is slide it along the ground into the path of RSC/McCarthy.

Cheers for the Villanueva last goal price...it's a bit low. If I get 10s I'm on...if he plays obviously.

Yeh I'm surprised it's as low as that for a debut player who is struggling for to be fit, I'm sure you'll be able to get 10's somewhere, maybe as high as 12's.

I'm tempted to have a punt on Dunny at 20/1 with William Hill.
