Im really starting to wonder whether we have reason to worry right now.

We are being linked to players nearing 30 (bar Robinson / doesn't really matter as he is a goalkeeper) and were selling or being linked with selling our younger players. Bentley, Cruz, Warnock...

I really do hope that Incey doesnt do a Souness, and sells our young players and signs either hasbeens and overated aged players.

Hasbeens:

- Fowler (33) - Why??

- Duff (29) - We have Gamst?

Overated:

- Bresciano (28) - Has 1 or 2 good seasons and then has completely dreadfull seasons

- Vince Grella (28) - Has been poor over the last 12 months

- Pennant (25) - Majorly overated in my opinion. Considering his attitude, he comes accross as a already failed David Bentley in 2 years time!

Pants:

- Keith Andrews (27) - Awfull, and failed at Championship level

- Willy Guéret (34) - Self explained

I just think we need to show some teeth, and get some eyebrow raising players, eyebrowsing as in good, not eyebrowsing as in pathetic for the Premier League

The Bentley replacement needs to be aged under 24 IMO!

I will literally cry if we spend the money we get from Bentley on Pennant and Keith Andrews...

Nicko, as an outsider and a man of the (footballing) World, do you think we have reason to worry?

Considering the transfer kitty we were meant to have, i dont know why its taking so long to make signings? Surely were not waiting for the Bentley money?!

Someone has just made a superb suggestion with regards to a Bentley replacement... Manuel Fernandes

RoverfanUK - How many of those players have we signed? How many heve actually been confirmed of targets, wither by the club or Nicko who seems to have been on the ball this summer? Only one, Fowler. All the rest are just possibly targets that various media people have plucked out of the air. And why do people who are trying to be pessimistic forget that we have Villa on the way in and we've bought a 28 year old international goalkeeper to replace and aging American (all be it a complete legend :)).

We have also been linked to people like Annan and Bradley, but you have chosen not to mention those two? Duff is something Newcastle have thrown at us, not that we have asked for. And if that offer was rejected then the club clearly don't want him.

I very much doubt any offer for RSC and Warnock will beaccepted. People should have a bit more faith, and if you are not sure about Ince, then you should be sure about JW.

We are a club with some money, we will be linked with everyone.

So you would not be happy if we signed someone like Beckham? Playing very well consistently over 26?

I agree with you there, Pennant is absolute dross in my opinion and Keith Andrews maybe better than him.

I really don't think replacing a right winger with a defensive central midfielder is a good idea.

However, he would be an excellent alternative to Castillo if he's within our reach...I expect he might be a little bit beyond us though.

Not particularly, have you seen him play for LA Galaxy lately?! Besides, how much would his wages be considering what he's on at LA?!

Beckhams my hero! Did you see that goal he scored recently from the half way line? And is passing is incredible. If he joined Blackburn I would buy a season ticket!!

Nicko, I thought the £3.5 million for Robinson was a pretty cheap deal, is it likely that Williams and Levy set a lower price for Robinson (say £1 million less) and adjusted the Bentley fee downwards in order to deny Arsenal some of the sell on money?

As for Ince's other transfer targets are Rovers likely to be looking abroad to fill those slots? Ochs sounds a definite possibility as a right back but wondered whether there might be other British based options.

Finally, can you explain why so many people have a downer on Andrews when they know diddly squat about him? The one guy who would know him inside out is Ince and he has the most to lose if he couldn't hack it. We definitely need more numbers with the new 7 on the bench rule coming in.

Very good spot on the fees...quite possible.

And the Andrews reasoning.

Still would rather we signed someone younger. 23ish like Bentley!

You better watch out, I may report you for age discrimination.

I mean there are so many quality midfielders out there over that age.

So the Andrews saga still has legs?

No major news...spent the evening watching Rovers at Northwich.

Robinson looks very slim and was unlucky to be beaten by a freak goal. You wonder when his luck will turn.

Fowler tries hard and will no doubt be given more time, but the old sharpness is missing.

Benni looked totally disinterested.

I have a feeling that Paul Gallagher was in the shop window and being watched.

Looking at the squad as a whole there MUST be a specialist right back - Kane is not ready - and a left back if Warnock goes - although Treacy was quite promising there.

The central midfield looks short all right, not sure Vogel is the answer. No sign of Mokoena. Or Dunny.

Nothing new there with Benni. How long does Fowler have, surely he will leave himself so he could get another club if we keep him on trial for another couple of weeks?

Yes. My guy who knows him is adamant that the deal will be done at the right time.

Of course, he could be being misled...I think not.

I think he will get a lot longer...he is among friends.

When he first came, we were told he was coming for a 2/3 week trial.

This is his 4th week.

Seen as you were at the game tonight Nicko, would you say Fowler is getting better from his previous games? whats your gut feeling, will we sign him or not?

Plus some members have mentioned Manuel Fernandez. Any insight on him?

Cheers

Ince and Fowler are pals, so he will give him as long as he can. Fowler is still chasing a dream and Ince is giving him that chance. I think this will run for a while yet. He is a free agent, so it could even run past the window.

Fernandes is talented but a lazy big so-and-so. Avoid.

Jaysus, even nicko's been saying we're watching people. I'd prefer we take the time to assess our options than to go leaping in face first. The approach taken so far seems valid - we identify some possibilities, watch them, then look around to make sure there aren't better deals. Nothings being rushed, which is a good thing. Whether or not I agree with the actual transfers is up to me, but the approach taken so far seems ok.

I'm sure there's more happening than we'll ever see.

I still want to know who we're looking at, though. Gimme :) Any defensive midfielders on the radar?

I think, though, that the right winger will be an interesting one. I wouldn't be surprised if Ince comes up with interesting options. He's liked playing with fast wings in his previous managerial jobs, and he might have the resources for a good'un (and he's looked at one already, if I recall nicko correctly). Of course, there is the depressing option of Pennant. At that point I'd be happy to see Keith Andrews with Pennant on the bench (if only because it annoyed him!)

Edit: uh... some poor english corrected

I'm sure Ince can sort him out. Is there a chance Rovers won't have a complete squad come the Everton game because Ince won't have decided who he wants? He's got 16 days to sort it out and in that time i don't think we'll get in a RB,RM, 2 CM and maybe a LB.

Also JW said this earlier today:

"I spoke to the Spurs chairman last night and we agreed a fee and a deal in principal for David," said Williams on Wednesday.

As an Arsenal player Bentley was loaned out, first to Norwich in 2004, and then to Blackburn in 2005 before making the switch to Ewood Park permanent the following season.

But Williams refused to be drawn on any possible aspects of the deal which may involve Spurs' North London rivals.

"I am not willing to discuss percentages and sell-on details of monies which may be owed to Arsenal, that's confidential information," he added.

Looks like we won't be finding out the sell on clause after all.

The fee will appear in the accounts eventually
