Will Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 i am not a very jolly man these days, but that has nothing to do with the recent going ons at rovers. get a grip! as of now we have sold bentley for good money. we could never have gotten more. so what with the sell-on? that was already set in stone. we have traded friedel for a top keeper in robinson, and we are getting a potentially excellent kid from chile. + robbie fowler will probably play a bit for us, but practically for free. its no biggie. santa stays and so does warnock. what is there to panick about? nothing on the takeover nicko? Here here. 2 people have gone, 1 i wish the best to, the other i dont. No doom and gloom for me.
The Prof. Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Eh? We've lost 2 (enks and brad) and signed 1 (robbo) so we actually have less Enks hasn't been here for yonks - Brown replaced him and he went on loan.
EwoodGlory Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 How can The Sun claim the sell-on clause as an exclusive, by the way? Sean Custis had the nerve to show his article on SSN this morning, while a comment was made about it being an exclusive.
vintageadidas Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Bentley passed his medical even though he had returned from our pre-season training camp. Was he really injured? I know for a fact he was being distruptive and that is when PI said "off you go sunshine".
Ewood and I Would Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Enks hasn't been here for yonks - Brown replaced him and he went on loan. What? Enkleman was released in May 2008 (2 moths ago hardly "yonks") and brown signed for us in June 2006 so where your "replacement" line comes from I don't know seeing as they spent 2 years together at Rovers. We've had far too many goal keepers for over a year now so i don't see why people are only complaining now that's all..
EwoodGlory Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I've heard Newcastle are trying to rush through the Coloccini deal by tomorrow at the latest, possibly today?? Once that's done they will try and get Warnock
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Once that's done they will try and get Warnock Then they can get lost. Need to put a stop now to selling anymore of our key players.
The Gull Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 What? Enkleman was released in May 2008 (2 moths ago hardly "yonks") and brown signed for us in June 2006 so where your "replacement" line comes from I don't know seeing as they spent 2 years together at Rovers. We've had far too many goal keepers for over a year now so i don't see why people are only complaining now that's all.. Enkleman was on loan all of last season and I thinkl some of the season before so he was not covering for us. Fielding also spent most of last season on loan. I imagine we may look for another youngster, but we do still hae fielding and Nielsen behind Brown so that's four keepers.
T4E Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Remember when he just watched the ball sail over his head and let Anelka run through on goal to score a last minute (or maybe even injury time) equaliser when we drew 3-3 with Citeh a few years back? Sorry to break it to you buddy, but I'm pretty sure we lost that 3-2.....
frosty Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Sorry to break it to you buddy, but I'm pretty sure we lost that 3-2..... It was 3-2....Anelka managed to squeeze it through Friedel's legs from a really tight angle for the winner.
neophox Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I heard 50 per cent of the profit. I believe Rovers paid around £3 million-plus for Bentley. So they will have to give half of the 'profit' - half of £12 million - to Arsenal - and split the other £2 million when it comes in. How can The Sun claim the sell-on clause as an exclusive, by the way? Laughed when I saw the Stock Exchange confirm the story that some were trying to dismiss or hide. So that means that we will have £9million direct so spend on new players, £6m going to Arse and then we and Arsenal can get an extra million later. Am I wrong ? Surely we have around £10-15m to spend on new players?
philipl Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 So that means that we will have £9million direct so spend on new players, £6m going to Arse and then we and Arsenal can get an extra million later. Am I wrong ? Yes, knock off the transaction costs of 10%+ on the £15m headline number.
T4E Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 It was 3-2....Anelka managed to squeeze it through Friedel's legs from a really tight angle for the winner. I seem to remember Bambi surrendering the ball on the edge of the area to Barton for their second too. EDIT: and the first was the 40 yard free kick mentioned on here t'other day.
neophox Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Our current squad: Goalies: Robinson, Brown, Fielding, Nielsen Defenders: Right back: Steven Reid, Tony Kane Central defenders: Andre Oiijer, Chris Samba, Zurab Khizanishvili, Ryan Nelsen Left back: Stephen Warnock, Martin Olsson Right midfelder: Brett Emerton Central midfelders: David Dunn, Johann Vogel, Tugay, Aaron Mokoena, Left midfelders: Morten Gamst Pedersen, Keith Treacy Strikers: Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy, Jason Roberts, Robbie Fowler, Matt Derbyshire, Maceo Rigters As I Understand: We need: 1 real right back 1 right midfelder 1 left midfelder as cover for Gamst 1 left back if Warnock should leave 1 central creative midfelder that could be 5 new players arriving.
roverfanuk Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Surely we have around £10-15m to spend on new players? 9 million (Bentley) + 10 million transfer kitty + money from Hughes comp & Walker Moneys 3 million - 1 million Robinson = Call it 20 million? surely...?
alexanders Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 1 left midfelder as cover for Gamst King Carlos Villanueva?
Gav Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Nicko - I have it on good authority that Pennent is dispised by the majority of Liverpool fans because of his lazy attitude and off field antics, can you put me straight on this from a press perspective.
LeChuck Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 1 left midfelder as cover for Gamst 1 central creative midfelder Villanueva covers both of those...you certainly won't see an attacking central midfielder coming in anyway. A combative central midfielder, a specialist right back and a Bentley replacement are all we require assuming no-one else leaves.
Iceman Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 i agree,we really only need a Specialist right back,a replacemenet for Bentley and a hard working, tough tackling, good passing combative midfielder.... Unless of course more players leave
roverfanuk Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Villanueva covers both of those...you certainly won't see an attacking central midfielder coming in anyway. Personally, id be rather disappointed if we didnt bring in a further central attacking midfielder. Carlos is untested at this level, and we will need someone who will hit the ground running...
den Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 9 million (Bentley) + 10 million transfer kitty + money from Hughes comp & Walker Moneys 3 million - 1 million Robinson = Call it 20 million? surely...? From what I can work out, the £10m transfer kitty is simply a guesstimate figure from Nicko. There's absolutely no evidence as to what, if anything, is available.
nicko Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 From what I can work out, the £10m transfer kitty is simply a guesstimate figure from Nicko. There's absolutely no evidence as to what, if anything, is available. Mark Hughes said about March that he had been given a kitty...he was happy with it at the time...perhaps he was lying which is possible but unlike him. If there was no kitty - that is a disgrace. Was he misled? Is that why he left? And WHY would there have been no money. As we speak apart from that 'kitty' there is: £4.6 million compo from Man City less £2 million max compo paid to MK Dons for Ince...so that is a further £2.6 million-ish. £3 million allegedly from the trustees. £6 million approx clear from the Bentley sale...working on the 50 per cent sell-on over profit. Less £1 million approx from the Friedel out - Robinson in transfers, possibly even less based on the size of Robinson's contract. Round figures I know, but that should be £10 million-plus. And this does not include TV money...and any surplus that may bring. Add the 'Mark Hughes kitty' and you have the total
