nicko Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 nicko is Annan Ghana international on trial at Rovers. Not heard that - but will check. Is this a rumour? Or has he gone missing in Norway?
b12_simon Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I may be in the minority here , but i think it would be wise to hold some of whatever transfer pot we have back , just in case things aren't looking too clever in january? I think you're right.
Claytons Left Boot Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Paul Robinson's first action was to pick a deflected free kick out of his own net...that is a disastrous start in my book. Perhaps for Rovers had they got beaten but they didn't. Certainly not for Robinson. And hardly disastrous in a reserve friendly.
Ewood and I Would Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 £6 million approx clear from the Bentley sale...working on the 50 per cent sell-on over profit. Nicko can you tell me what B works out as (clue it aint £6m) (15 - 3)/2 = A 15 - A = B nice how Arsenal begins with a and Blackburn begins with b aint it? The answer is £9m
Frisky Jim Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 If there was no kitty - that is a disgrace. Was he misled? Is that why he left? And WHY would there have been no money It seems quite obvious that Williams lied to Hughes, which is totally unacceptable conduct. I am dismayed by such disgraceful behaviour by Williams. Jack Walker will be turning in his grave.
Moorey Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Good grief. The opening post doesn't appear to allow room for intolerant hounding of opposition posters either, but I'll jog on as requested.
nicko Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Perhaps for Rovers had they got beaten but they didn't. Certainly not for Robinson. And hardly disastrous in a reserve friendly. It's a disastrous start when your first action is to pick a deflected shot from a non-league team out of your own net. It doesn't make him a bad person, of course. But in the game - his debut - it was a disastrous start. I can't believe I'm even debating this...
Flopsy Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I think throwing the ball into your net, or letting it through your legs, or missing an easy one. Thats disasterous. Having no chance from a deflected free kick is bad luck and bad defending
Amo Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Why not write Paul Robinson showed some fantastic form on his debut for his new club. Despite an unlucky early deflected goal which Robinson could do nothing about, he kept his composure and made a magnificent acrobatic save late on to ensure Rovers came away with a 2-1 win Because it's Paul Robinson...? May I also remind you that the word GAFFE was printed under a picture of Robinson. Unless he's supposed to be psychic and know exactly how and when a ball will be deflected, it wasn't really a gaffe. It's just another one-sided dig from the media at someone who wants to get on with his career.
philipl Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 From what I can work out, the £10m transfer kitty is simply a guesstimate figure from Nicko. There's absolutely no evidence as to what, if anything, is available. If you take last year's accounts, apply this year's wage budget of GBP40m and this year's known Premier League payout and assume the rest of the numbers stay roughly the same, then there should be enough of a surplus to pay down last year's additional borrowings of GBP7m and put GBP10m into the transfer kitty. So Nicko's suggestion of GBP10m looks about right from my perspective.
ace Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 A deflected goal in afriendly resreve game equals disaster? ..Some mistake there surely! The headline " Eathquake in Chile..not many dead" comes to mind for similar thoughtful journalese.
walk down bolton road Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Not heard that - but will check. Is this a rumour? Or has he gone missing in Norway? Trial confirmed by Stabaek"s director of sports Lars Bohinen. link http://www.budstikka.no/sec_sport/article190822.ece
Scotty Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I can't believe I'm even debating this... Perhaps it's because you've chosen to post on a Blackburn Rovers fan site, after writing a comment in a national newspaper about a Blackburn Rovers player, that distorted the truth and wrongly painted said player in a bad light. I can't believe I had to point that out....
Frisky Jim Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Paul Robinson is a poor goalkeeper. I'm not surprised he conceded soft goal.

I can't believe I had to point that out.... Can you not read, Nicko said the report mentioned the one a few minutes later. On 29 minutes a deflected free-kick from Joe Byrom sent the keeper the wrong way. The above does not put him in a bad light.
Nelsta Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Yeah he did mention the good save, But the fact is as soon as you open the paper the headline is leading you to believe Robison has made an error, which when you read it it clearley isnt his fault.
Lurid Coat Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Trial confirmed by Stabaek"s director of sports Lars Bohinen. link http://www.budstikka.no/sec_sport/article190822.ece Yep. The article states that Annan will have a one week's trial starting on Monday. For those of you who are not familiar with the guy - Annan is an exciting midfielder currently playing in the Norwegian Premiership for top outfit Stabæk, and he partners Michael Essien in Ghana's central midfield.
j166429 Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Can you not read, Nicko said the report mentioned the one a few minutes later. The above does not put him in a bad light. Yeah but the "damage" is already done with the headline. It sort of takes the shine off anything else positive.
EwoodGlory Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Well don't just read headlines, they are to entice you to read the article, not tell the whole story. On 29 minutes a deflected free-kick from Joe Byrom sent the keeper the wrong way. That implies bad luck, nothing in the article says it was his fault, or he played badly.
Bobby G Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Is Annan really that good? Dont remember him that much from the World Cup, but I cant believe Chelsea really considered him despite what was said in the press last season...

Amo Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 That implies bad luck, nothing in the article says it was his fault, or he played badly. So the term 'GAFFE' doesn't? It means a mistake, a misjudgement. The article is obviously painting Robinson in a bad light, saying he got off to a 'disastrous' start. Why not unfortunate? Unlucky? He's obviously using hyperbole to take things out of context.
Lurid Coat Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Is Annan really that good? Dont remember him that much from the World Cup, but I cant believe Chelsea really considered him despite what was said in the press last season... He wasn't called up to the Ghana squad in 2006, as he had yet to make his breakthrough. However, I think he's shown lots of promise thus far, and is only 22. Hailed as the new Essien by some (although obviously not on the same level as him yet), others compare him to Pablo Aimar. An exciting prospect, and I don't think he would be too expensive.
gazsimm Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Paul Robinson is a poor goalkeeper. I'm not surprised he conceded soft goal. he's not a poor goalkeeper, he has just had a lot of bad form of late and his confidence needs rebuilding,. He can not be that bad of player if he has played all them games for England. No doubt when he has a fantastic 1st season at Rovers you will be saying Robinson is world class player!!!
