Completely erroneous comparison - if you drive into a wall it's your fault.

If Robinson concedes a goal due to an unlucky deflection he could do nothing about, that's nothing to do with him and hardly a "disastrous" start for him personally.

It might be a "disastrous" start for the team in that game but obviously given the unfortunate 12 months or so Robinson has had, the misleading headline will sell a lot more copies.

Which is the object of the exercise as far as the paper is concerned.

Nothing other than tabloid sensationalism!

Paul Robinson's first action was to pick a deflected free kick out of his own net...that is a disastrous start in my book.

He made an excellent save a minute or two later.

Both were mentioned in the report.

He had a 'fantastic game' you say...and you were at the match?

Sorry Ive been in London for a couple of days so I wasn't at the game. And I've not been able to pick up the Blackburn with Darwen edition of the Mirror which you keep referring to either. Along with 99% of the population, all Ive been able to read is an entirely negative piece slamming our new keeper, with your name on it. One more thing- 'showed some fantastic form' is what I wrote. You quote me saying 'had a fantastic game' ... Is that journalistic license?!

A few thoughts:

Nicko is employed to help sell newspapers, not to defend our players to the rest of the media / readership. Everyone who watches the PL is waiting for Robinson to make a mistake, just as Rovers fans will be with Scott Carson, just as Rovers fans expected Roy Keane to get sent off, and just as Rovers fans expect Drogba to dive. This is why the papers report things in a certain way, because they know what people want to read. Nicko is an excellent contributor to this site but his actual job is to find the stories that people want to read and to write them in a way that they want to read them. That's it.

Can we get back to discussing more important things now? Like can we sign some decent bar staff in the Blackburn End for half time?

Utterly critical point - never mind whose managing the place. Why don't they fill 250 glasses two thirds full and top them up - it's take minutes - they do it in Germany and it tastes just as good. Oh and have some queing markers for heavans sake. And a kids only section. Whats with the £2.90 get it up to £3.00 so they aren't rooting around for Mr. Jones 10. change for 20 minutes. This needs sorting!

I honestly cannot believe some of the idiotic things on here.

We get £15m from Spurs. We pay £6m to Arsenal. We have £9m to spend. End of.

The first thing a very unlucky goalkeeper has to do is to take the ball out of his own net after a wicked deflection. That's a disasterous start to a career at a new club. Would have been catastrophic in a meaningful game, or apocalyptic in a cup final, but still disasterous on your debut. Doesn't mean it's his fault- just that someone dogged with bad luck has brought at least a little bit with him!

Love your calibration of language Jan..heaven forbid anything really serious happens!

Bad Luck thats a great name for the Spurs back four.

Robbo will be a great signing for us, I have complete faith in him.

M.E.N's Chris Bailey on Talksport now. This should be good, I wonder if RSC will get a mention

Why not, the ITV Sport team are name dropping him every couple of mins atm during the Man City game on ITV4

The ITV4 team are now saying the main reason Hughes left to join Man City is because we dont have any good youth coming through, where as Man City do... :angry2:

It's all about context. In the context of a football game against Northwich Vic, and in the context that it was his first game for a new club after a bad year, it was indeed disastrous. What the hell is going on here, is it no common sense day?I was as disappointed for Robbo as anyone, and his comments since joining have endeared him to me greatly. But I suspect if you asked him about his first game, he'd tell you that that was a disaster of a start for him. I don't know why you're bringing up major disasters, they're in their own category. If you had your way, nothing could be described as more than "unfortunate" unless thousands died :)

Also, it was unfortunate too. But he'll bounce back (not literally, he looks trimmer to me)

Moving along, any idea what type of right winger Ince is looking at? Is Pennant top of the list, or just current top? Rafa said he had bids on the table for Pennant and Yossi - was the Pennant bid us? Should I shave my beard for my brothers wedding?

Remind me who was the only team to beat Man City under 18s last season in the Academy league?

Nicko, realise you've probably been busy defending critique of your journalistic style, but how come you haven't told us Villanueva & Plancheira arrived @ Brockhall today? C'mon man, you're the only source worth checking out for the truth!

Is it true they're expecting a lesser-spotted defensive midfielder, that isn't Aussie or Annan, in for a trial too?

Well - I do think some attention is needed here. Young Profs team have played the Rovers junior setup (3 different age levels) and whupped them all. Although we all support Rovers (as far as I know) they don't play for them having been picked up by Man Utd. earlier. Our centre forward was at Rovers and is attracting the Liverpool scout who has turned up watching. Preston and Burnley have been down and at one tournament the Man City scout was asking the Man Utd. chap who young prof. played for! - no Rovers as far as I know - you seem to have to turn up at JJB on a Saturday morning or you don't count for the Rovers. The Liverpool scout was really good and took time to explain that a new youth setup was being instilled by their new Dutch Academy Chief and they would go to a Preston based setup for skills training. Man Utds is at QEGS. Really we are a long way behind these teams.

Paul Robinson is a poor goalkeeper. I'm not surprised he conceded soft goal.

Are you somone who hates Rovers FJ? Because tthe way you come across from all your posts is that there is absolutely nothing about the club or it's management that you like; far from it you actually have a strong dislike of all these things. Am I right?

I have to say i totally agree, whilst i don`t wish to see people being verbally abused,Frisky Jim is setting himself up for a right tongue lashing.I just don`t understand how everything he says is a totally anti-everything to do with Rovers.

Can't argue with the relative merits of both Youth set ups. There is absolutely nothing coming out of our Academy while City's is full of exciting young talent. You only have to watch the two Academies to know the soundness of that argument. However, I doubt if the City Academy played a major part in the decision Hughes made. It was just a added bonus for him once he arrived.

I have heard the name Dani Planchería mentioned somewhere reliable today, have you heard anything about him? I decided to have a look at his Wikipedia but it has been deleted 4 days ago.

Hmmm.....

EDIT: I see he's mentioned.

Any idea what he will be? Back up? First team? Reserve?

I found this:

Rovers trial for keeper

Plancheria to spend week training with Blackburn

Yep. The article states that Annan will have a one week's trial starting on Monday.

For those of you who are not familiar with the guy - Annan is an exciting midfielder currently playing in the Norwegian Premiership for top outfit Stabæk, and he partners Michael Essien in Ghana's central midfield.

Good the boy has talent he looked good at the african Nations strong in the tackle and he can play. Fingers crossed

Right, i have just got my friend to translate what that Annan article said. She said the following:

"It says that Stabæk have agreed to extend the loan from IK Start for a further season up until the 31st of August". "This would be the best thing for the player added Sport Director Lars Bohinen".

"Bohinen also added it is out of the question that Annan would join Blackburn Rovers". "However the player (Annan) called Rovers last week to ask for a week long trial in England"

"Bohinen also said, if any club, Rovers or Foreign want the player they will have to wait for his contract to expire and then sign him for Free"...

She isnt fluent in Norweigen but said it sounded like they wouldnt sell Annan to Rovers or any other foreign club unless his contract has expired...

Maybe Nicko could confirm whether Annan is coming on trial, or whether his team have denied permission.

If he's on loan with them till 31st August, could he then come on loan to us as window is open till 1st sept? Whats the diff between Staebeck and Rovers.

Nicko there is no point in this debate. If I was making a debut and the first thing I had to do was pick the ball out of the net then it would be a disaster - if I had saved a penalty then it would have been brilliant.

remember it is silly season the kids are off school !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Er for 6 weeks I think.

You lot all berating Nicko, should shut up seriously no other club gets the insider info we do, the second he rights something you don't like you all jump on him, I hate to think what you do to your mates.

Our youth set-up does not even compare to some Championship set-ups! Take some of the Bentley cash say 1M thats plenty and spend it here start by sacking the guy in charge and getting in someone with a proven track record of developing kids!!

Asked a Barcelona fan about him, and he said that he's a fairly good keeper but didn't think he'd be good enough for the Premiership. He was 3rd choice at Barca B last season and didn't play a single game. Perhaps he's someone like Samba who's slipped through the net, but it does seem a little odd. However I believe he's only 21, and he'd surely just be 3rd choice. If he signs at all.

Great work guys... Now because of some monumental plonkers on here, we don't get any Rovers related news!

A great example of some pricks ruining it for others!

Nicko, if you have any pre-written up info, PM me it, as i always like reading your articles... (on a personal note, i could really do with some good news as i have had the worst possible day ever today!)
