Perhaps the decision to not go ahead with the Segundo Castillo move had more to do with just how complicated it would have been to sign him? After all offering a one-week loan to a 6 million rated international who has played at the World Cup and Copa America as well as in Europe does seem the normal procedure. particularly as there seems to have been no requirement for Villanueva who is far less experienced.

Looking around however...

This blames Ince for the transfer collapse

"Según manifestó Castillo, todo estaba arreglado entre su persona, los dirigentes del Blackburn, el empresario Jorge Guerrero y el Estrella Roja de Belgrado, pero que al final el entrenador Paul Ince puso algunas trabas en su contratación."

This roughly means..."According to Castillo, all was agreed between himself, the negotiators of Blackburn (presumably headed by JW), the businessman Jorge Guerrero and Red Star Belgrade, but at the end the manager Paul Ince brought in some other conditions in the contract negotiations"

So it seems that, according to Castillo, and, despite the prior agreement, Ince want to change the details of the deal. Castillo then got the hump and went off.

Castillo is apparently back in the capital Quito now trying to sort out the end of the contract with Belgrade so he can go to another club in Europe.

Bit of a strange business all round it seems...

"As for Gordon, I accept your view mate but for me BENTLEY is not bigger or better than BRFC and if he thinks that Spurs are going to jump the top 4 he is as deluded as the yid backers and chaz and dave !"

OK 1864 glad you had a nice holiday ........ but I'm afraid that your views below below do not compute!

"David Bentley........... YOU will be replaced by a better and probably brighter player."

............. "Anyhow, I do believe that Jermain Pennant will be at Rovers sometime next week for a medical as a price of around £6.8m has been agreed, this from LFC supporters who we met in the Caribbean who had arrived on wednesday and claim to be close to him"

Not sure why we are bothering with this one... that article is the BBC being Lazy, they just reworded the original article on Carlos but obviously forgot to remove the Castillio part from the original article.. hense the match in Germany which has been and gone.

Pennant is nowhere near the quality of Bents IMO.

Pennant is like a used ragged car being passed around, where as we just sold our newish sports car.

:) I agree rebel.. and blimey after lots of shrewd business this summer I really can't see rovers splashing 6.8m on a player who has dropped from Liverpools first team plans and was originally signed for 6.7m a few years ago.... that would mean we would be spending more for a player who has not exactly been improving.

Been a long time since we went shopping at Ferrari dealerships. We tend to look around for unwanted second hand models without too many miles on the clock. Those in need of careful owner...

Pennant would be worth a punt but only at about half the figure of what is being bandied about.

Exactly. We need a cheap price to offset the insurance we will need in case he is a lemon.

On the one hand it's appalling....... on the other I'm thinking that this may be a good way forward. After Hughes/Brad/Bentley its obvious that contracts only work one way.

Yup, we get a shedload of money on the odd occasion when one of them decides to leave!

At no point did I suggest Pennant was the player to replace Bentley indeed I would say that the young Chilean has the ability and quality to produce even better service to RSC and McCarthey than Bentley could dream of.

Bentley is a fine crosser of the ball but he has his faults.

He never looks to his right (greedy), he is a lightweight tackler, he falls over too easily, he is poor in the air and he most definately is not a speedster with silky feet and he has a fine shot behind that right foot of his. He is a qualkity sulker and if he doesnt get the ball his play rebounds on the team.

I think Rovers have a class act on the books with Carlos and yes I have seen the youtube entries but have also seen him on tv a couple of times. If Tugay can take him under his wings then Rovers could have unearthed a true diamond that will be worth millions in the future.

J Pennant would enhance our right side and leave Emo to play right back where he belongs.

Not sure if already posted but Steve Coppell says Nicky Shorey will be gone by the middle of the week to a prem club.

Not expecting it to be us but we have been linked and obviously this would end our interest in Warnock

Heard a whisper it's Villa who are after him, hopefully thats wrong and it's Newcastle.

Why, our need is greater

Will prob take MON a few weeks to pick up the phone by which point he'll have gone somewhere else anyway

Shorey will go to Villa I feel but we really should be making a move for him. Warnock is a super player but we need to be strong with him. It will put us in the driving seat and allow us to 'sell' Warnock rather than have him 'leave' us. Only a subtle difference but a very positive one.
