nicko Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 simpson going to the villa according to the mirror? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-20682971/ Villa want him - like I said a couple of weeks back. But Fergie told Simpson on Friday that he was going to Blackburn on Monday. I think he will stick to his word - I believe that this is part of the Steele business, but that is unconfirmed. Height never hurt the likes of makalele, maradonna, cannavaro, zola etc. As long as he's mobile and good with the ball at his feet then his height should not come into it. Coaches who look at stature, before ability are blinkered. Agreed, but with Villanueva and Annan in the same team you might struggle for height. We all hope Villanueva is 'the' man this season. Just thought the search for a midfield enforcer would have been centred on strong and big players.

Would he even be a feasible target?

leftfooter Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 ROQUE - Man City will not be able to find the money unless they sell someone big or several smaller players. He is probably the last player the club would want to sell. If he goes then there is something seriously wrong. MAN CITY - Ben Haim cost around £3 million. I know that some of City's media allies have put out £6 million, but that is wrong. His wages are big. Yes, there seem to be some interesting links behind the deals...but what's new? My main concern would be where Ben Haim plays - and why they need to replace Dunne and Richards. It's a very strange place just now. My concern is that these two matters could be related. It's hard to see City paying big wages for a 20M rated RB (Richards can play that position; Dunne & Ben Haim certainly cannot). As you say, why would they need to replace Dunne and Richards? 3 into 2 didn't go last time I watched Sesame Street. Dunne just signed a big new deal and Ben Haim will have to play, because of the 'connections'. This is my assumption: City is preparing to clear the decks for the sale of Richards to fund a bid for RSC. What's your opinion? Also, do you find it ironic that some of your biggest detractors - the so called 'bitter old guard' - are hanging around this thread all morning, answering questions, without actually posing a single question to you? Did you ask them to act on your behalf as spokesmen (sorry spoke persons) or are they self-appointed?
Hughesy Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Cannot see City selling Richards, he is there star man and a main player if they do actually have top 4 aspirations.

Ok, that's enough, I tried being civil. 1) Whilst I disagreed with the slant of some of nicko's recent postings, I have stood up for nicko on numerous occasions in the past. 2) I thought it was still possible to discuss the contents of nicko's thread - rather than simply direct an endless barrage of questions in nicko's direction. 3) I have never once tried to act as a spokesperson for nicko, I merely expanded slightly on a point you made - still don't know why you've got your knickers in such a twist about it.
Majiball Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Agreed, but with Villanueva and Annan in the same team you might struggle for height. We all hope Villanueva is 'the' man this season. Just thought the search for a midfield enforcer would have been centred on strong and big players. I still believe we will play a 4-5-1 variation, so it wouldn't matter too much in that style. However in a 442 your right, depending on how he sets it out if annan sits then him and say Samba should be able to swap for the higher balls something terry did when Maka played for the Chelsea. The other trouble for me is if Ince wants as he said a box to box player with a pressence, and then on top good footballing ability, who? and then how much, I'm sure the ideal sitter costs more than we can afford. Do you know if Ince asked for Simpson or fergie offered??? I have to say I'm surprised given that Ince is about 6 months behind in terms of targets, that he hasn't sought favours or advice from his previous clubs, or has he?
Tony Diamond Inc Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I wouldn't react Rev, the guy clearly hasn't got a right foot!

Nelsta Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 My guess is he asked Nicko a question, And someone else answerd it...how dare they!
1ROVER Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 According to SSN at13.15 Reports in Italy have suggested that West Ham and Aston Villa are rivaling Inter Milan in the race to secure the services of Matteo Ferrari, who is a free agent after his contract with Roma ended. Why arent rovers not in for him, hes a free agent, i think sparky wanted him at rovers a season or 2 ago, looking at yesterdays performance at the back get him in. Also wouldnt ming kightly good player, may o a job for us on the right wing
mohelger Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Hi nicko - any thoughts or rumours about Johan Vogel's chances under Ince - or too early to say?

If they have Ferrari's and we have mini's there can only be one winner.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Agreed, but with Villanueva and Annan in the same team you might struggle for height. We all hope Villanueva is 'the' man this season. Just thought the search for a midfield enforcer would have been centred on strong and big players. Chelsea had Makalele, Joe Cole and SWP all on the pitch at some points and they alright.
rebelmswar Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 My guess is he asked Nicko a question, And someone else answerd it...how dare they! He seems a bit over the top to me, the reason I do the ticker is so we can have a debate without people getting as antsy.
LeChuck Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 I've heard Richards might move to center-mid. I think Hughes has said as much. They don't have an abundance of good central players, especially with Hamann on his last legs, so it would make sense. Which makes leftwinger's lengthy analysis a bit void really...
John Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Apologies if already mentioned, but in the Sun yesterday, it said we have agreed a fee for Per Ciljan Skjelbred ? £2.2 million. I know West Brom were keen last month.
