Hmmm….. Philipl the poster of contradictions & wild assumptions. The man who personally made £76 million in one year for the Island of Malta, yet can still has the time to make 50 posts a day on a football fan-site

The 10 million came from Nicko- Which you agreed with right?

5 million from the Hughes & staff Compo

Anywhere between 9-11 million from the Bentley deal

3 million from the trust

-1 million for the Robinson/Freidal switch

600 k for loans

Yes that atleast 25 million & the fact that since jan we are at least 4 mill lighter on wages.

I hope you are right- go to the Pennant thread and you will see what I consider to be a more realistic estimation. The £4m light on wages is sadly wildly far from the mark but the 2007/8 accounts will be published in December and we will see if you are right estimated £36m or my guess of £39m (the club's own guideline less a bit) is correct.

Two years ago I intermediated the entry of low cost carriers into the Maltese market. In 2007, LCCs carried 150,000 tourists into Malta spending E684 per capita (all NSO figures) including over 110,000 on the airline I presented the case for. Happy now?

maybe the players who might be coming in on loan are more to do with the likes of say liverpool and arsenal loaning players such as diaby, denilson, lucas, and bendter(players who arent regular starters at them clubs)-getting the premierleague experience they need..they might be available for loan but unable to buy..

The loans and trialists I am hearing about are foreign.

Ive seen Annan play many times, in African qualifiers and cup games.if Ince doesnt sign him up, then we missing out on a player who imo wil be a better player than essien and makelele. He might be short, but if you want to see a guy climb into tackles, and who can also attack with superb skills, the Annan is that player.

he is OK now, and yes, he can develop into greatness, but we will never enjoy his services at that level. if we get him, (and it will NOT be on loan. it will be a buy) we will fine tune him, get his skills up to prem level, then he will be off. maybe a season or two.

Which would lead to a huge profit.

Plus, if you can put together enough of those players then who knows what could happen. We have Warnock, Santa Cruz, MGP, Benni, Samba, Robinson, Nelsen and Ooijer who are all capable of reaching that level (maybe not every week, but certainly fairly regularly). String enough together and that's the best chance we have of having one season where we do something special (winning a cup, great league run). If you subscribe to what you just expressed then we may as well just not sign anyone.

Nicko, could it be that the loans and the numerous players coming in on trial simply indicates that there isn't a huge amount of money available - or at least not as much as everyone has been talking about. We are assuming that somewhere in the region of £10 - £15 million was available for transfers but it could be that some of that money was already earmarked to cover running costs.

The running costs of Ewood Park, the Senior Training Complex and the Academy must be huge. Take in all the staff wages, not just players but all the backroom staff, office staff, groundstaff etc and the outgoings are considerable. Add to that equipment and travel costs and I suspect that the club are keeping money back to pay for these overheads in case we hit hard times in the future.

Just look at the playing staff at all levels and there must be 60 or more players. You only have to look at those used in pre-season games at first team, reserve and academy levels to realise just how big the playing staff actually is.

I also wonder if there is some reluctance to allow the new management team to spend the whole transfer budget during this particularly window. If things were to go badly, and there was a change of management before the next window opens, money might be needed boost the squad in mid-season. Whilst that is a totally negative viewpoint, a good businessman will always plan for a worse case scenario.

Morbid but true.

I've been wondering the same thing, Ince must prove himself before he's given the keys to the chest, but at the same time with him being 6 months or so behind the rest of the teams its the wise man who does not jump in feet first.

Btw, who is neil eardly.which country is he from.im just asking

He's a welsh boy showed some promise so far.

Could it perhaps be that the reason we going for loan options and trialists, be that maybe that time is running out before the 31st August deadline?im assuming loan deals would be much easier to conclude? Also is Ince and JW playing it safe, going the loan route, in the event it doesnt work out, thus saving money?

No, not entirely the case or exactly the case. Just trying to take in what is going on...and make sense of it.

I think it is alll happening a bit fast and furious in the transfer market...and it is a big ask for a new management team to be sure about the players they are signing.

Robinson is an ok replacement for Friedel, but does need to be 'rescued.' Villanueva should be excellent - I said 'we hope' be cause I would like to be entertained. Simpson is a decent player but just a bit of a surprise that he came on the radar.

But I am a bit puzzled by the amount of names I hear flying around and the trialists being lined up.

Maybe a smoke screen to hide who they are really after!!!!!!!!!

As opposed to what? Follow the Newcastle business model, and buy over-inflated rubbish players then write them off as financial losses.

So, in the week that we bought Matt Jansen & Ashley Ward, of the two your preference would be for Common Spice's husband I presume?

It's only fair to indicate the vast majority of 'talking about' has been assumption.

For instance, there was talk - about the same time as season ticket renewals were out - of a 10 million war chest that would be given to Hughes this close season. JW I'm sure will hold this for Ince, and of the Bentley money a % of that would be added to cover his replacement - to a degree.

All the other talk, such as the compo money, the Bentley money, the 3mill Trustees money, etc. AFAIA just been anticipated as going into the cash pot. You're correct in your consideration that the whole 'pot' may not necessarily go into the transfer kitty methinks. After all, unlike most Prem clubs - and many other businesses around - we do have some liquidity in that IF we wanted, I'm sure we could splash up to about 15 million on transfer fees now if we wanted, but that wouldn't be prudent at all.

I'm sure, that like Mr Hughes, Ince will budget out what he wants to spend in whichever position, or on specific players, and also to 'set aside' funds for Villaneuva or any loan signings 'with a view', just in case.

Think of it as JW giving Incey his pocket money!

Nicko

The conspiracy theorist in me is wondering.....

Was the Chowdery PR plug about his 'interest' in Rovers and Brad moving completely, utterly unconnected?

Supposedly, there was some link between them, no?

Would it be feasible for instance to think Brad may possibly have got a better deal possibly if Chowdery took over?

I'm sure it's just an overactive cynical imagination at play.....

Pretty much sums up Ince's interview on Radio Five Live yesterday. Said Pennant is a good player but refused to confirm our interest. Said there would be trialists coming in soon. Also mentioned that it is hard to work out who is available around the world and that things are changing the whole time (with regards to the transfer market). He said he is finding this aspect most challenging.

Possibly sounds like he could do with some help.....

I think it is the time of the year where we all get negative and forget that we are just a small town.

We will never have the money as the likes of Newcastle and Spurs and they are all laughing at us when the transfer window is open.

At least we always get to laugh at them in the end :D

Right - something that makes sense of all of the trialist 'chatter' I have been picking up.

There is a closed-door game tomorrow.

At least one of these trialists will play, possibly three. I can't see Annan playing as he has been in action today.

There could be even more than I know about.

It's quite a novel way of doing things and it might work out...but it just shocked me to hear of so much activity on the trialist side of things in the past 48 hours.

Hopefully Simpson is in tomorrow too and then it looks a bit healthier.

God how i'd love to see spurs struggle again!Doubt it tho this season

they seem to be playing well in preseason!

Im a little worried that were looking at so many trialists!surely we could get

a couple established players that are lower risk!

I'm ok with the tralists, but I do feel that we need that one "name" to excite the fans. We've lost Friedel and Bentley and to regain the faith this summer it will take more than some hope and loans.

Villanueva sort of was that, but they took too long in getting him in so I feel as if all the excitement over that faded. On top of that, the fact that he is totally unproven at this level didn't help. Just need that star to show that the club is really on top of things and going in the right direction.
