Hawkiiz, where did you see this about annan?

Nowegian tv2 after the game earlier today. He was speaking of his injury and the trial. I don't think he knows very much himself right now, but he will be on the plane very shortly. There is something In Norwegian press, but. Of

Much yet. Sport.no have a tiny thing on him.

Hi nicko could you clarify those.. Annan in and training.. so he will be aboard? or did you mean on trial?

Spanish B keeper... I presume you mean gone and not good enough... boy Ince likes short trials.. lol

Sable.. is this looking likely then?.. I have a random good feeling about this one.. :)

Annan is contracted to a club, and will probably cost 1-2 millions somewhere - Norwegian meda claims he has some "foreign club clause" in his contract, not sure though - Nicko? He will definitely cost money though, and nothing is negotiated as of yet - I guess that answers your question. Re: Hawkiiz, I don't believe they will hold out for as much as 4m, that would be a staggering fee for a young and fairly unproven player like Annan.

Elsewhere, I really hope we're not about to spend a large chunk of the Bentley money on Pennant. We do need a right winger, but we don't need more than one Skippy The Bush Kangaroo. I just don't think his end product is good enough, but that may change in a club like ours of course.

Any thoughts on our attacking line, Nicko, are we looking to offload someone or does Ince have faith in the four strikers we have up there?

In defence, after Simpson has joined, we should have decent cover - but a "star defender" would've been nice. We certainly need a right winger OR a right back, Emerton can't play in both positions. Reid at RB perhaps?

I would absolutely LOVE to know what Ince has planned for our central midfield, will he push Villanueva in there?

Sorry if this post is OT in this thread, I just feel there's so many questions at this point. Exciting times none the less, even though I would be more comfortable if Sparky was here to spend our money.. :)

Nicko

Anymore news on Warnock? Have you heard of Nicky Shorey's likely destination?

One more quick thing, the People said Faye wants to leave Newcastle to go back to the North West, have you heard anything about that and where his likely destination will be?

He looks very good here, very good at striking a ball and another who can take a good freekick

Ha, he plays with Spiderman, how bad can be be! (0:15 of the video) His goal at 2 min there is rather outrageous.

Actually, on this trial thing, Ince is being quite canny. It's not necessarily a comment on the players, but more on the fact that he hasn't been LOOKING at players at this level because there was no point. So he has had to catch up very damn quickly and the best way is to look at the players in person. We'll see whether his eye for a player is good eventually but it's a big handicap for him at the moment, despite the scouts doing all they can.

I'd try to lose that, I'd be very surprised if we signed him. My feeling is that he is a player being touted around Europe and is willing to go on trial so we have decided, quite rightly, to take a look and make sure that we don't miss out on anything. I'd be very surprised if this resulted in anything apart from a one-way ticket back to France and a pat on the back.

Trust me on this... ince is looking for a leader... and Sable has those skills... club captain etc for a long while.. One of the better DF mid type players and thats what we are after.. English speaker.. although annan wll probably be the better long term option in my humble opinion.

But in a way you are right its all down to Ince and I will trust his judgment so as it goes a 50:50.

I would rather sign both players and sell Moko, need cover for Dunn and Reid injuries and lack of form and Tugay can finally retire

Dunny's only good for a half a game but works his balls off, worth keeping.

The Axe, however, just doesn't cut it (no pun intended) and I think Reidy was out for so long he forgot how to play football. They'd fit in pretty well at clubs further down the ladder and we could sign these new boys instead. Otherwise our midfield is seriously going to be the death of us this season.

Ince has spent the last 2 seasons in the lower leagues. He did not expect to be a premiership manager so soon and hence is at a disadvantage when it comes to assessing players properly at this level - especially players from overseas.

This could be the reason why he is opting for trials and loan deals. If necessary, he could postpone any biggish signing until he is satisfied that he has exactly the right player.

maybe we won't see a big money signing this month??

This would be disappointing but maybe it is understandable???

i suppose it is true that todays game will be against Blackpool?

Good work.

Nicko, what happened to the link we had with Marco Bresciano? Has that one gone cold?

Bresciano is available and has a price - but I think he is just on a list at the moment.

The new faces in this week will probably be looked at first.

Reid is a confidence player imo, and more adversly affected by self doubt than most. He has only really had one good spell with us and that was just before his injuries. He always gives me the impression that in his own mind he believes he is not good enough to be playing in the Prem. Maybe a series of sessions with a sports psychologist could be money well spent.

:D if the same guy can tell him to stop firing long shots at the spectators all the time aswell i would be more than happy.

Hi nicko - any thoughts or rumours about Johan Vogel's chances under Ince - or too early to say? :rover:

An educated guess would say, limited. He's hasn't played much in pre-season and Ince is actively looking for a holding midfielder.

I suspect he will be a victim of the handover, in the way Javi De Pedro was when Souey exited and Hughes came.

nicko, i assume that seble and annan play in the same position, what if both impress on trial then what will ince move for both of them. The obvious contender for the DM role would be Annan. Still only 21, being raved about being one of the most up coming payers, already made a name for himslef for his national side after impresing in the african cup of nations.

Nicko, do you know any other trialists playing today apart from seble, and is simpson here today

For me it is a shame about Vogel. He is a decent player, although he is a bit on the small side. I think he would have a role as one of the two holding midfielders in the 4231 if we elect to play that system (And I think we will to suit Villaneuva) if we get a bigger guy in alongside him (Sable?).

Interesting about the numbers. If we elect to get in two cheaper midfielders like Sable and Annan in I wonder if that means we are lining up a serious bid for a big name wide player like Joaquin? Theroetically it could leave as much as £15m if we sign those two and get in Simpson on loan....

It makes more sense to get a very strong defensive midfielder as a priority, but as available and interested big names in this area (I can't think of one) are short on the ground maybe a high quality winger is where the money will go?

I will hopefully be a lot wiser later on today once the game has been played and various people have/haven't arrived.

Sable definitely plays. Annan won't.

There could be a couple of interesting faces too...checking just now.
