Taggart Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 SABLE - Doing ok in games and training. ANNAN - Doing well in training. Decision time on both soon. ROQUE 2 - Thanks to the PMer for the tip on that, sadly could not find out anything about him before the story broke. Good idea to bring the kid in for company - not sure he is good enough. BENNI AND GALATASARAY - No idea, but possible. PENNANT - Liverpool want to sell, you might have to watch this space. MAN CITY PROBLEMS - Told you. Nicko - given that you heard he was on the small side, have you managed to see him in training or have you just heard from your sources ? With Ince`s links into Man U - has there been any offerring of Darren Fletcher behind the scenes ?
Majiball Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Nicko, With reference to annan, given he's played a few more games for Ghana, do you think he will get his permit? He has the same number of caps as pineapple, if not does anyone know of a local lass who fancies a wedding??
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 ANNAN - He had an elbow injury but is ok. However I know he has made a good impression. SABLE - Neat and tidy player. It is possible both could sign, it would not cost much. Not exactly star names, but possibly younger and better than some current squad men.
Hughesy Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Hopefully if Annan is impressing then we will sign him this week - Nicko when is a decision needed by? Any more news on Pennant? How much is he available for? I think if we can come out of the window signing Annan, Pennant, Robbo, Simpson & Villanueva & Maybe Sable with only losing Brad & Bentley then we are a much stronger side.
Flopsy Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 ANNAN - He had an elbow injury but is ok. However I know he has made a good impression Why who did he elbow? boom boom
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Hopefully if Annan is impressing then we will sign him this week - Nicko when is a decision needed by? Any more news on Pennant? How much is he available for? I think if we can come out of the window signing Annan, Pennant, Robbo, Simpson & Villanueva & Maybe Sable with only losing Brad & Bentley then we are a much stronger side. I think the Annan decision will be quite quick. There are other clubs around Europe who like him. I don't think it's too expensive. Sable is easier still. Loan with a view. If they sign BOTH it could end the Andrews discussions, which are STILL going on.
joey_big_nose Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Interesting about McCarthy going. To be honest I am not sure what he can offer us any more. He is disinterested at the moment and him and Rocky are similar types of player, but the Paraguyan has got much more to his all round game. It is hard to envisage how Benni fits in except as a substitue, but then he is hardly an "impact player" is he? His lack of pace and directness means he is always needs a little space and to be close to the opposition goal to cause damage. Too often he drops deep where he offers nothing and if he is not up for it he makes few runs to find the space. I feel that if we could lose Benni and get in a "proper" target man with a bit of pace and power (Cisse?) then we might have better options.
Hughesy Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 And what about the right side? Pennant still the main man, whats the price?
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 And what about the right side? Pennant still the main man, whats the price? Not sure he ever was - or should be. However if the price is right [around £3-3.5 million] that could happen.
Ewood and I Would Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 ANNAN - He had an elbow injury but is ok. However I know he has made a good impression. SABLE - Neat and tidy player. It is possible both could sign, it would not cost much. Not exactly star names, but possibly younger and better than some current squad men. Hmm I was hoping Annan would be a first team player but seeing as Dunny has been given vice captain I guess there's only one place to fight for in centre mid for him and Villanueva to fight for. That is of course unless Reid is better than both of them (I hope not)
joey_big_nose Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Surely if Sable and Annan are coming in for a combined 2m down surely we will be gearing up for a major investment in a right winger as a priority. Joaquin? Or maybe get Pennant in and sign a big name striker?
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Why? They aren't the same type of player. I don't think you can be signing too many 'experimental' players - they are similar in that. And I don't think either has the Premier League physique that you would ideally want. This side is shaping up as a bit lightweight. Potentially exciting, but there are no brutalisers in the midfield.
AussieinUk Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Nicko good to see your back! - Any news on the defender Paul Baysse?
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Are we actively looking to offload anyone Nicko? I think a lot of players will just be simply squeezed out when the new players arrive and bed in. Mokoena and Tugay would be obvious. Vogel will also be under pressure. However, the signings have yet to be made - so let's not be too hasty.
hawkiiz Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Why who did he elbow? boom boom not sure if you are joking but he smacked his elbow on sunday when he was playing for Stabæk. he got the same injury during the africa cup, and it takes about two months to heal, but he can play with it. but he must wear a supporting bandage for a while. im just wondering if it could damage his medical if we try to sign him, but it seems to be ok. and he is well capped since the africa nations. he signed a three year contract with Start in january 2007, saying he wanted to grow as a player. he then went on loan to Stabæk, where he has been a hit between the defence and midfield. he is 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) so a bit tiny.
Sparky Marky Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 On that score, I think Brett might come into his own this season....Big Bad Brett....!!!
nicko Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Any news on the defender Paul Baysse? I know he was puzzled when Simpson was signed - he thought he was coming as a possible right back. He can also play centre half, but he thought he would have a chance of playing at full back.
Esulx Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Official Txt Service: Rovers have completed the signing of Julio Santa Cruz. 18yr old Julio, the younger brother of Roque Santa Cruz, has signed a three year deal with the club.
tchocky Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Nicko good to see your back! - Any news on the defender Paul Baysse? Hmm, is it those broad shoulders? And does he know you're looking at him from behind?

No kidding there.. we will be shorter than the spanish midfield.. still they seemed to do ok I guess.. So no news on established players? Surely we are taking an awful lot of gambles..
