Great post!

Ince probably has his scouts scouring youtube & ebay this very minute for a replacement!!

I very much doubt Rocky will be going anywhere. Despite what nicko alludes to.

So when you sit down at night and sip softly on your whiskey, thoughts turn to old Uncle Trustee don't they? You know. That old cranky nutcase who lives in Jersey. We never send cards or let him be seen by our mates. Still less talk admiringly of the @#/? son of the True Uncle. I mean. Just how mean is he? £40m in 7 years? Pah. What a tight old goat. The True Uncle spent at least 3 times that. And all he wanted was a bronze statue. Uncle Trustee now actually wants us not to spend more millions than we have. WHAT? DOES HE NOT UNDERSTAND THE PRICE OF BUSHMILLS THESE DAYS? It's at least £15m a year.

Jesus wept. I mean... I know he has never said he wants some of the gazillions currently irrationally ploughing into the ungrateful coffers that is our bar round back... but you know. He's a right bifter. Sack him. What we would really like is one of those NICE uncles who say LOVELY things to us....like that Uncle Gillett. He said to those Scousers 'would you like to see my puppies? They're worth £250m' OK they got bummed by the nutter but what a nice thing to say. And that big cuddly old Uncle Ashley, or snuggly old Uncle Glazer... ...er.. actually.

We should start a post of the day, or even post of the week award. Brilliantly put :)

I think we need to ride out the wave for a few years and see where some of these debt ridden clubs end up.

Clubs like Utd and Liverpool etc will always have people queuing to invest in them, but some ,like city for example, might implode once the TV money dries up. The better run clubs might just come to the fore again.

The news - delayed by the usual Man U post-match tourist traffic.

Sunderland want Benni McCarthy, trying to get in ahead of Galatasaray who are genuinely interested. They have the money to make this happen and McCarthy may fancy it. It's a novel twist and the money would be handy to find a striker.

No word at Man U about Roque...they will try for Berbatov until time runs out. Anyway the Roonster may be back sooner than expected.

Wonder where a McCarthy sale leaves Robbie?

Still waiting on Annan and Sable news. I suspect one or the other will sign.

And for Villa fans...Shorey has a medical tomorrow morning and Luke Young may follow soon after.

Well perhaps Ince has inherited his tutor's talent for selling great talent just after the brow of the hill. Brad now Benni... great tip Nicko. I can feel a major one coming down the line.

what a bonus binning benni off for a fee would be! one season wonder, would'nt be remotely sorry to see him go as he never looks bothered. Cheeky bid for that sturridge at city, got pace. On a side note the big league weekend programme on sky did a couple of minutes on andrews,i'm still not in favour but, he scored some very youtube worthy goals last season.

Just out of interest Nicko, do you think that if Benni was to be sold that we would be looking for another striker in addition to Robbie or do you think we'd just take Robbie on and leave it at that?

I would imagine that most fans would be disappointed to see Benni 'swapped' for Fowler regardless of his weight/determination?

I agree.

If we are to sell Benni i hope we look at a striker with some decent pace to replace him. I know there have been rumours about Cisse, but personally i don't rate him.

Isn't Saviola out of favour at Madrid? It might be worth an enquiry, though the wages would be an issue.

I guess it depends on how Ince wants to play. The signs are that he favours a five man midfield with so many midfielders arriving on trial and therefore with Santa, Derbs and Roberts maybe he feels he has enough up top (especially if Fowler signs). Bearing this in mind, I'd go for a young, well-built, pacey player who carries a good reputation and would cost a few million pounds at most. Even if was a young foreign player who would need time to settle, it would be a calculated risk.

The big question is, of course, where is Ince going to spend the main bulk of his budget and on whom?

Jesus if we could get that much for McCarthy I'd be delighted. Roque's obviously our no 1 striker and we need somebody suited to play along side him. Personally I think Derbyshire could do it but if we sell a big name then we should get another one in to replace him.

I feel stupid now suggesting 2 mil would be a fair price !!

Just goes to show what an awful season he had last year. I know he scored a few in the Intertoto at the very start but, as every Rovers fan would agree, he didn't look interested after the Chelsea interest. I thought with his comments about Rovers being his last club etc. that this summer he would have worked his socks of pre-season to prove a point but at the Macclesfield game, he looked like he'd enjoyed his holidays too much. Ten million quid would be the single most pleasing piece of business that I have ever heard of even though on his day, he has undoubted quality.

IF true and we could get £7m then thats great - but who would you replace him with? It has to be a striker of real quality and be a real statement of intent to progress - how about Podolski?

If we can wring 7 million from Sunderland and fob the Ace to Stoke for 3 million we could place a bid, would need some extra cash though to make 12.

I would love to see Podolski at Ewood though.
