thenodrog Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 If we sell Benni and don't bring in REAL big quality as a replacement and give Robbie Fowler a contract then that will be a disgrace and an embarrassment and we might as well forfeit out Premier League status at that point. The sad thing is I think Ince is dying to sign Fowler. Make a memorable BRFC epitaph.
Eddie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Final point on replacing Benni, IF he goes, why do we need to if we are likely to play with one up (RSC?). Because we have two strikers who just aren't good enough to be the best striker on the pitch for a team (Derbyshire and Roberts) and our other striker is Mr. Santa Glass Knees Cruz. You really want to get rid of our only other striker who you could say at any point could win a game by himself for you and replace him with...nothing? If we can line up a younger replacement for Benni, particularly if the guy has pace, then this could be a good move. If we sell before that deal is tied up then we are idiots. I like Benni, think he's a really good player, so I certainly won't be unhappy if he stays, but every player has his price and a 30 year old coming off a very bad season is usually not sold for 7 million. Although, let's remember that it is just paper talk at this time.
hawkiiz Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Why on earth do you think this? Most of the goals he scored were penalties, I can't remember him actually having a overall decent game for us. Part of that isn't Benni's fault I suppose: the delivery from pedersen was a lot weaker than the year before, the quality of RSC made him more of a target for passes than Benni, RSC ran the same areas of the pitch as benni, our weaker central midfield meant we created less chances than the year before. Those things aside however he still failed to convert easy chances, rarely got into decent positions to recieve the ball and gave defenders very little to think about. I like Benni as a player but I just can't see him having a future at the club. Doesn't fit with RSC, getting on a bit, and really looks like he is going to take it easy over the coming months. would be very very interresting to know what you think is the reason for rovers finishing higher last year than the year before. benni, gamst and the central midfiel was all weaker than the year before according to you. was rocky THAT amazing?
Mozzer Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 selling a 31 year old who doesnt look interested in playing for us for 7million would be great business.. with it being sunderland aswell-no doubt the price could go up 1-2million.. to replace him-maybe saviola-he was linked to clubs in january for a fee around 5million...djbril ciise-would offer us the pace we need upfront..
Eddie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Saviola would be fantastic, but I can't see it happening.
rovers1995 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Really don't want to sell mccarthy but if we do what about kevin doyle. Shouldn't cost too much.
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Please god no!!! Doyle has now found his level
Mozzer Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 nicko-have you got anymore information on this story about mcarthy??would paul ince be willing to let him leave??
Eddie Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Briand isn't as good in real life as he is in FM. He could be a good buy, but I'm not sure that I would want him to have the pressure of replacing Benni.
Mr Maureen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 replace him with jimmy briand Don't replace him,no one will notice.
JamieUK Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Possible replacements : Saviola Podolski Gudjhonsen Vagner Love
joey_big_nose Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 would be very very interresting to know what you think is the reason for rovers finishing higher last year than the year before. benni, gamst and the central midfiel was all weaker than the year before according to you. was rocky THAT amazing? Well it certainly wasn't because Benni was good! Bentley was very good, as were Freidal and Warnock. Cruz of course was exceptional. I would say Roberts played a significant part towards the end of the season, Pedersen did improve, Vogel was tidy, ooijer stabalised the defence. I was impressed with Emerton going forward all season. McCarthy did very very little. Hence why he was dropped for two periods during the season where bentley and Roberts took his place.
hawkiiz Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Lets get Alanzinho. could do a job on the wing but not as striker.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 If we sell Benni and don't bring in REAL big quality as a replacement and give Robbie Fowler a contract then that will be a disgrace and an embarrassment and we might as well forfeit out Premier League status at that point. The sad thing is I think Ince is dying to sign Fowler. As good as Benni can be, if £7million cash is on the table it is to good a deal to turn down. Replacement wise, the obvious ones have already been mentioned - Podolski, Gudjonsen, Saviola How about Giuseppe Rossi now at Villareal or Nilmar (Internacional - Brazil) or Fred (Lyon)
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Possible replacements : Saviola Podolski Gudjhonsen Vagner Love Have we struck oil under Ewood during the pitch relaying or something?
67splitscreen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Very dangerous move selling Benni. Man U still could be just around the corner(CRUZ) Berbatov says he would prefer Barca to Utd. If we knew for sure Roque was safe then yes it's good business.
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 wasn't he going to Sunderland yesterday too?
rovers1995 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Not saha. he's injured more times than i've had hot dinners. Simple answer, don't sell Benni In the L.E.T today it says that rovers do not want to sell mccarthy
CrazyIvan Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 saha anyone? Noooo, please nooo.... He'd spend more time on the injury list than on the playing list.
Kai Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 wasn't he going to Sunderland yesterday too? Been rumoured to be going up there.. fee is £8.5m?! (I don't know if that's correct though). If that's the case we could probably squeeze more than £7m from them. How many games has Saha actually played?
den Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Not saha. he's injured more times than i've had hot dinners. Simple answer, don't sell Benni In the L.E.T today it says that rovers do not want to sell mccarthy Ince didn't want to sell friedel or Bentley either.
