rebelmswar Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 im torn over benni. a big part of me thinks we should keep hold of him. I believe his attitude and poor form of last year was mainly down to differences between him, MH and the coaching staff. if he could recapture the form of his debut season, his partnership with santa would be one of the most formidable in the lge. however if his attitude and poor form continue, and we have a poor start, I wonder how committed he would be. another scenario could be - mccarthy is sold, rovers struggle, and he bangs goals in for sunderland! the decision is a difficult one. I think if ince thought there was any chance of him regaining his form, he would keep hold of him. He is still flaunting about in a miff, I think he may be the most hostile to Ince. 7 Million pounds in the till and Derbs up front with Santa please, unless we buy someone fantastic that is.
Oklahoma Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Benni's record in Rovers: 8 Goals in 1701 minutes last season 18 goals in 3063 the season before Sure he wasn't as good last season as he was before but if the same happens to RSC, do you want him out? And please be a little more realistic: Podolski, Martins (much worse record that Benni), Saviola are unrealistic targets.
Mozzer Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 apparntly podolski has said he wants to go back to koln to kick start his career-so i think fans are right in thinking blackburn could be in with a chance there.. i dont saviola is unrealistic-he was linked to bolton few months back..
T4E Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Martins (much worse record that Benni). Correct. Has he ever been prolific? Cos Benni has.
EwoodGlory Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 if you know anything, tell it! if its closer than newcastle.... are we going back for kevin davis? emile heskey? henri kamara? Should I put him out of his misery?
The Prof. Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Look at that photo!!!! Who ate all the pies Surely thats Axe?
Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Unrealistic targets? Podolski was being offered to Newcastle & City Saviola was linked with Bolton Gudjohnsen linked with West Ham, Bolton Martins only plays for Newcastle. Have some ambition god damn it! We could attract any of those players if any of the above could! How many of them can offer them potentially top 6-8 football and Europe?
Oklahoma Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Correct. Has he ever been prolific? Cos Benni has. Martins record: 9 goals in 2053 minutes last season 11 goals in 2866 minutes the season before.
rebelmswar Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Surely thats Axe? Cant be the Axe as he always looks like someone is stalking him in photos.
joey_big_nose Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Wages are the main stumbling block. I doubt we can go above 60k per week. Plus oviously Cruz will want parity with whoever we get in. Gudjohnson is money obsessed and getting on a bit. Plus he is a "in the hole" type of player - not sure that is what Cruz needs in a parnter as he is like that himself. Saviola could work because he ahas a lot of pace. Madrid will be paying him buckets but he might take a pay cut to get regular football. You have to ask why did Bolton not get him though? Martins would be an excellent foil for cruz but he must be on mega money at Newcastle. Podolski - actually sounds possible. Will know Cruz, looking to restart his career. Rovers could be a clever move for him to get things going. I don't understand why there are not more teams interested?....
The Prof. Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I think selling Benni would be a big, big mistake - The guy is probably the most talented player in our whole squad. He's at a good age, just signed a new contract, and would benefit hugely from playing with someone like Villanueva. Talk of Podolski or Saviola as replacements is unrealistic in my opinion - We won't get better than Benni McCarthy. Eh? Oh! Yes yes exactly right - he's a genius - Sunderland must never get hold of him - £7m what a steal - they should come back with at least £8m and weelll we might just have to let him go then. Cant be the Axe as he always looks like someone is stalking him in photos.

Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 We offered Bentley 50k, Bellamy 55k, Lucash 45k, im sure we could go over 40k! We have cleared Bentley, Eckleman, Henchoz & Berner off the wage book
joey_big_nose Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I doubt we can go over £40k. Bentley was offered 50k, Bellamy was offered 60k, I am sure Cruz will be on 40k minimum, McCarthy and Savage will be/have been around that figure too.

We have cleared Bentley, Eckleman, Henchoz & Berner off the wage book Not to mention Benny if this is all true, wages should not be THE problem. Trusting Ince with piles of redies is.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Is it just me who thinks selling Benni would be risky? If Santa suffers second season syndrome, what are we gonna fall back on? Roberts? Fowler?
Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I think it is very risky - hency why if we do sell him then it has to be only on the reliance that we are signing a better striker who can pick up some of the responsibility or help roque develop further. Pace is essential.
almuncle Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Not to mention Benny if this is all true, wages should not be THE problem. Trusting Ince with piles or redies is. I don't see why the fact that Ince suffers from piles makes him unfit with money.Give the guy a break the strain is beginning to tell
tcj_jones Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 With all the money received for Bentley, I can't help but think that we've missed a massive opportunity by letting Andy Johnson sign for Fulham. He's single handedly guaranteed their position in the Premier League IMO. Would be a great partner for Roque and would mean we could also sell Benni and prob not even record a loss on his original transfer fee.
alexanders Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Possible replacements: Semih Sentürk (Out of favour in Fenerbache)(Güiza just joined Fenerbache) Nihat Kahveci (34 matches, 18 goals for Villareal) Fernando Cavenaghi (44 matches, 24 goals for Bordeux) Xisco (Deportivo La Coruña) (risky, up and coming)
Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Why did Everton let AJ go? Because he is a striker that doesnt score many goals - except from the spot! He dives alot and the ref's have got used to him. We could do better.
Majiball Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 With all the money received for Bentley, I can't help but think that we've missed a massive opportunity by letting Andy Johnson sign for Fulham. He's single handedly guaranteed their position in the Premier League IMO. Would be a great partner for Roque and would mean we could also sell Benni and prob not even record a loss on his original transfer fee. It would just give Wenger another reason to lsag us off in the press!! AJ is a good player but I would not be happy with that kinda money being spent on him TBH. I want a younger player with potential. Hughes always signed older players with a point to prove, and we got some good ones now we need some youger players, which Ince is doing at the moment.
DingleBaiter Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 "His head has been turned by Sunderland's approach and Ince is resigned to allowing the striker to leave." Benedict's head has turned more than Linda Blair's in the Exorcist. IMO if we can get good/any cash for him, let him go. Odds are against him repeating his season before last form. Too many factors weigh (no pun intended) against it; he always looks disinterested, for some strange reason he earned a new contract last season, it's one thing having a lazy player but an unfit one too? Also, given footballers are stereotypically some of the worst drivers around, it can't be long before the A59 claims him like it did Moko. Hughes already has ragged him about they way he drives that GT-anyone that overtakes 4 cars @ You & Yu blind corner then tanks it over 100 into BV as he's late for training must have a deathwish (either with MH or his maker!). I'm sure this story will be a typical of the Rovers, build your hopes up & kick you in the nadgers.
