Lurid Coat Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Anyone got any bright ideas for a replacement? Theofanis Gekas (Leverkusen) Alex Frei (Dortmund) Mario Gomez (Stuttgart - not very good in the Euros, but brilliant in the Bundesliga) Sergio Garcia (Zaragoza, who recently got relegated. Scored for Spain in the Euros) Kevin Mirallas (Lille - very hot prospect, had a pretty good match for Belgium vs. Brazil in the Olympics today too, incidently) Javier Saviola (Real Madrid) Semih Sentürk (Fenerbache) Well. Looking at that list now, I doubt a lot of them would be dying to sign for Rovers, but those were just some suggestions from the top of my head

Majiball Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 And up comes this one again: Fadders Being of Scottish heritage I like him but, not convinced he's what we need, still pining for pace. Cisse going nowhere? Cisse
DingleBaiter Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 According to Ince he has been spending too much time at McDonald's instead of Ewood. Where has Ince actually said this? Not that it's untrue - 23% BF for a footballer is pretty high.

You should add: Fernando Ezequiel Cavenaghi , Bordeux Nihat Kahveci, Villareal
EwoodGlory Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 What about Alan Smith? Get out You in for Healy then, probably better than Smith I suppose. I would rather we sign fowler
RevidgeBlue Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Brilliant post iamarover. And the asking price for a Champions League-winning 35 goals in 74 appearances forward damned well should be the £10m Rovers are asking for. £1m per tummy roll if current reports are correct. Just watch him start smacking them in for Sunderland if he goes there- would far rather him planting flags in Turkish centre circles. I couldn't disagree more with that, the chances of McCarthy ever being an important player for us again are negligible imo. I would have snapped anyone's hands off offering 4-5m. 7m just seems too ludicrous to even contemplate. I hope the bullish noises in today's LT are simply attempts to bump the price up a bit more or stalling tactics whilst we source a replacement. Turning 7m down for him would be almost as reckless as signing Grabbi for that amount. Lest we forget, only two of his Premiership goals last season were from open play. For us, that record, or his attitude, ain't going to get any better imo. I don't discount the possibility he might perk up a bit if he goes to Sunderland, but that will only be temporary. And as with RSC, Fowler won't be the direct replacement if Benni goes - some people really are looking to beat Ince up at every opportunity.
Ricky Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 With you on this one Rev. Just hope its a way of bumping the price up a bit. We've seen that Sunderland seem happy to pay silly prices for players. If they can pay £6m for Chopra they should be willing to shell out around £8 for Benni. Can't belive they were being linked with Saha for £8.5m in some papers. That's just ridiculous. If we could get anything over £7m for Benni I'd take it in a shot. I like the idea of going for Podolski. We've dealt with his current club before so must still have the phone number kicking about somewhere.
Baggio Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Get out You in for Healy then, probably better than Smith I suppose. I would rather we sign fowler We are if Alan Oliver is correct, which luckily for us isn't very often.
Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 12.52 Skysports.com understands that West Ham and Nottingham Forest have shown an interest in Switzerland international Bruno Berner.
BiggusLaddus Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Where has Ince actually said this? Not that it's untrue - 23% BF for a footballer is pretty high. Seriously? That is pretty high for the average man on the street, it should be completely unheard of for any professional sportsman.

Lest we forget he played wide left at the Euro's as well to good effect, give Gamst some more competition as well. Quick clinical exactly what we need, come on Keane!!

Do you actually think we have a chance of signing Poldiski, if he wanted to come to England i am sure there will be bigger clubs then us wanting his services.
philipl Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Do you actually think we have a chance of signing Poldiski, if he wanted to come to England i am sure there will be bigger clubs then us wanting his services. such as? Ps Apologies to imy9- I thought nicko had put a number on the Sunderland offer.
thenodrog Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Please god no!!! Doyle has now found his level I rate Doyle as being OK.
novella Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 to be honest i dont think paul ince or the board would even consider podolski. not unless they are avid readers of this board. even then as soon as he becomes available i can garantee it wont just be us in for him.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Do you actually think we have a chance of signing Poldiski, if he wanted to come to England i am sure there will be bigger clubs then us wanting his services. No harm done in making an enquiry if the interest in Benni from Sunderland and abroad is genuine. The same could be said for Saviola, a player who's future has been uncertain for some time at Madrid, and wasn't he linked to Bolton not that long ago?
Hughesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Maybe other English clubs would want him yes, but how many could actually afford him? If we got a straight £7m for Benni then surely we could afford the £10-12m fee straight up? Not many others could make that same offer.
thenodrog Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 And as with RSC, Fowler won't be the direct replacement if Benni goes - some people really are looking to beat Ince up at every opportunity. If he is then I take it we can expect you to take up a cudgel too Simon!
Kai Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I rate Doyle as being OK. I rate Doyle as being OK for the Championship. Got completely found out last season. Of all the names flying about, Podolski would capture all the fan's imaginations - it would certainly mine. But we all know what happened the last time a big name was mentioned (Laudrup). Another one to throw into the mixer - Diego Milito. Despite a very impressive goal scoring record for Real Zaragoza last term, they still went down to the Segunda Division. I'm sure that he'd be keen on a move. However, I think that Spurs have been linked with him. That'd be a bonus if we steal him from under their noses.
Lurid Coat Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 12.52 Skysports.com understands that West Ham and Nottingham Forest have shown an interest in Switzerland international Bruno Berner. Bruno, the legend!! Better than Ben Thatcher, though, who played for Hammers reserves in a friendly just a couple of days ago.
blue/white Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Wages are the main stumbling block. I doubt we can go above 60k per week. Plus oviously Cruz will want parity with whoever we get in. Gudjohnson is money obsessed and getting on a bit. Plus he is a "in the hole" type of player - not sure that is what Cruz needs in a parnter as he is like that himself. Saviola could work because he ahas a lot of pace. Madrid will be paying him buckets but he might take a pay cut to get regular football. You have to ask why did Bolton not get him though? Martins would be an excellent foil for cruz but he must be on mega money at Newcastle. Podolski - actually sounds possible. Will know Cruz, looking to restart his career. Rovers could be a clever move for him to get things going. I don't understand why there are not more teams interested?.... I think Saviola turned down BFS b/c he (or his agent) had caught wind of or seen videos of Bolton's tactics. Imagine stepping off the Real Madrid 'Bentley' and climbing onboard BFS' 'Escort'. sorry for another one of these analogies, this boards have seen too many Bentley/Ferrari/Escort comparisons of late. Anyway, the reason Saviola was pushed out of Barcelona and looks to be available at RM is specificly his crazy wages.... JW wouldn't go near him. I'm watching the Argentina/IC match right now and I can't get over the silly crowd going gaga for overhead clearances and dopey things of that nature...... silly buggers.
gazsimm Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 such as? Ps Apologies to imy9- I thought nicko had put a number on the Sunderland offer. i am sure the likes of Villa, Everton or even Tottenham will be ahead of us in the cue. Even if we get 8 million or so Benni, it does not mean we will use all the cash to find a replacement for him does it
b12_simon Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 i am sure the likes of Villa, Everton or even Tottenham will be ahead of us in the cue. Even if we get 8 million or so Benni, it does not mean we will use all the cash to find a replacement for him does it I reckon if the £7-8m bid is genuine we should take it. Very good business. I also reckon we should use the lion's share of that £7-8m to find a replacement. Derbyshire's good but not yet up to starting week in, week out.
Paulsman Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 There is no way that Martins would join Blackburn. If he was to leave us, it would be for nothing less than £13m and I'm sure there would be bigger clubs interested. You don't fancy taking Alan Smith off our hands do you? I'm hoping Nicko will be able to confirm that Everton are indeed stupid enough to buy him from us. Also, any updates on Warnock?
