[Archived] League Table Prediction 2008-2009

Recommended Posts

It's probably about the right time to predict the league table for this year.

I presume Philly Rover will keep a track of the tables and see who comes out on top.

Just thought I would get the ball rolling in case we forgot

03. Liverpool

04. Arsenal

05. Portsmouth

06. Tottenham Hotspur

07. Aston Villa

08. Everton

13. Manchester City

14. Sunderland

15. Wigan Athletic

16. Fulham

17. Bolton Wanderers

Hmm, holding back made little difference last year so here goes.

Its going to be a 2-2-10-3-3 league.

Permier League Winners:

1) Chelsea - have strengthened, no management distractions and only lost it on the last day last season.

2) Man U- held onto Real Ronaldo but the guy is injured and distracted

Trailing in Champs League places:

3) Arsenal- not sure about Nasri, Alonso will be good but Flamini and Hleb are big losses. Eduardo not being fit before Christmas and Adebayour 2nd season syndrome looks like a hit and miss season.

4) Liverpool- just don't think Rafa has what it takes to win the EPL

Ten pretty evenly matched teams scrap for 3 UEFA places:

5) Pompey- significantly better and won't go AWOL with the FA Cup this time

6) Spurs- would have been 4th but Keane transfer derailed them. Best midfield in the division though.

7) Boro- not joking. Alves and Mido fit at the same time, two of the best wingers around and two very smart new signings add up to Southgate's boys being a threat

8) Villa- just cannot adequately replace Mjellborg and Barry

9) Sunderland- Keane made some expensive but astute signings. They will kick on.

10) Everton- might finish lower but this is another Moyes' off season.

11) West Ham- depends on Bellamy's fitness

12) Rovers- no Bentley=no midfield ball retention; last season's Brad replaced by England's Robinson (if he gets back to that form) is still minus 5 goals.

13) Newcastle- just cannot see them doing anything much

14) City- Hughes to improve slightly on SGE's 2nd half of last season despite Eastlands falling apart around his ears.

Three clubs too good to go down:

15) Fulham- some eccentric, some good signings, stronger

16) Bolton- not brilliant but signings have strengthened them

17) Wigan- good signings but I don't rate Bruce

Three clubs came out of the most competitive Championship and years which simply says none of them are good enough to stay up:

18) Hull- will give it a right go

19) West Brom- will entertain us

20) Stoke- won't

Got a feeling it's going to be Chelsea's year this time round. Out of the three teams that got promoted i believe West Brom are the only one's with a decent chance of staying up, I don't reckon Fulham are going to be quite so lucky this time around.

  • Backroom

01. Manchester United (more of a 'team' than Chelsea, and this counts for a lot)

02. Chelski (Scolari's first season, if he stays for next season they'll be in a stronger position)

03. Liverpool (assuming Torres and Keane click)

04. Arsenal (seem to be going backwards)

05. Portsmouth

06. Aston Villa

07. Everton

08. Tottenham Hotspur

09. Middlesbrough (good buys)

10. Sunderland (major strengthening should help them)

11. Blackburn Rovers (I would be happy with this finish)

12. Newcastle United (not had the signings Keegan suggested would happen)

13. Manchester City (a club in disarray)

14. West Ham United (similarly on shaky ground)

15. Wigan Athletic

16. Bolton Wanderers

17. Fulham

18. West Bromwich Albion

19. Hull City

20. Stoke City

Anyone working on last season's result? No one report back who is the winner for last season's result. So anyone (american rovers 12?)will keep the records and report back who is the winnner after season? It is no point to post the guess here but no one report the result.

Thanks to anyone who have the time to keep records and report back who is winner.
