[Archived] Keith Andrews - Rovers Newest Signing

Recommended Posts

The number of times I thought "it wasn't Keith again was it?" only to see the trade mark run betray the perpetrator of yet another muck up today got beyond the absurd. We really should have played with a permanent green traffic light in midfield for all the good he was at hindering Arsenal sweeping forwards.

Bendtners goal when Keith is running alongside pointing to Jacobsen to go wide watch an Arsenal player making an overlap, then Bendtner suddenly cuts inside Keith, leaving Keith looking like the biggest lemon in premiership football before unleashing an unchallenged shot past Paul Robinson.

Cheers Keith just another wonderfully negative moment in the colours of Blackburn Rovers Football club.

Taxi for Andrews.

Blimey, another belting performance from our most contraversial player. Not a single tackle made. And EVERY time he got the ball he passed to a rovers player in a worse situation than himself.

We were shocking the last 30 or so minutes, so not excusing any of them - bar robbo and dunn - but my word he has to be the worst rovers regular for a long time. Agree with the previous few posters. He should not wear the blue and white halves.

The most tragic thing is Sam clearly hasn't made his mind up about him. Fair enough, Grella was suspended but Emerton could clearly slot into CM. He has the tireless running along with the ability and positional sense that Andrews flagrantly lacks.

Grella is crap aswell, doesnt look as bad as Andrews, but then again he certainly just as ineffective as Andrews is.

Grella isn't spectacular, but then he isn't that kind of player. He's a defensive midfielder whose priority is put the foot in and move the ball on. Andrews is some malformation of a box to box midfielder.

They are both very disappointing in my view, its a fine line who is worst, lets compare appearances and goals scored against price paid.........the answer is..........?

Get shut of both of the stiffs.

Agreed. What should of happend today was Emerton CM and Hoilett wide right. I don't understand why this did not.

ps. Grella - he is decent but static. HE will be useful against Dingles, but even if he was available he shouldn't of played today against Arsenal. They game would have passed him by. He wouldn't have probably got himself sent off.

I wish he was quick enough to do that.

These two, Andrews and Grella are the basic reason why we struggle. Central midfield is where you assert some control on a game. Lack quality there and you will always struggle.

I can't really criticise anything Andrews did yesterday...mainly because he didn't do anything. If I hadn't seen his name on the team sheet before the game I wouldn't have known he was playing.

As Jacobsen has made the right back position his own we should give Salgado a run in Andrews' position. I think his experience and tenacity would have been far more useful than whatever it is Andrews is meant to do.

Thats pretty much the role of any defensive central midfielder.

No it isn't. A good defensive midfielder will patrol the centre circle when we have the ball, picking it up and distributing without much physical movement. However when we don't the DM needs to make the tackles and press the midfield. Grella is too slow to do that. Makelele, Viera, even the likes of Fletcher are not. They close down very quickly and make clean tackles.

If Grella plays for us he needs someone athletic alongside him to do his dirty work which is a shame.

Concentrate! Andrews did a few things,he just didn't do much right. Passing to opponents seems to be his main thing. Even his mother and Jonnolad can't fancy him after yesterday.

Andrews isn't close to being good enough against teams like Arsenal, it's that simple. Against the lesser teams he's alright, his passing isn't the worst and he can run around a lot( ). Like Jason Roberts, he's valuable to us as a squad player, but he's not someone we want to build the team around. In central midfield, that's kinda important..

You know Herbegeehh, I struggle with the idea that he's OK as a squad man. If he's a squad man, he has to show something - whether it's Arsenal or anyone. He's either good enough to do a job in midfield, or he's not.

What use is a player who no-one wants to see in the team?

I see your point. Although, from a Blackburn Rovers perspective, what would they do if he wasn't there? Who would take his place last season?

He was the only midfielder who could play three games in a row. I guess I agree with you, he should be off because he's unable to fill the position in a satisfying way, but at the same time he is a decent enough player against the lesser teams, and I actually mean that! ;)

Will all be forgiven if he scores against Burnley?

Well it would certainly prove how bad the dingles are...

Seriously, what is Jason McAteer remembered for at Rovers? (a player who stirred as much derision as Andrews does but for different reasons) Scoring the first goal at t'turd.

And for the goal saving clearance early on in that match. No matter what we think about Macca he had a belter that day.

We need Reid to come back and have a Dunn like renaissance. If you told me Dunny could play like he does atm I would have laughed at you, so maybe there is hope for Steve.

I'd love to think you're right, but Steven Reid at his best was nowhere near as good as David Dunn at his. Dunny is close to being back to where he was before Souness robbed us of him, even if Reid got back to what he was in the 6 months after that goal at Wigan, it wont have anything like the same impact.

Emerton and Grella has to happen soon, surely?!

But it'd be a positive impact nonetheless as it guarantees roughly 5/6 goals a season?
