[Archived] Keith Andrews - Rovers Newest Signing

In other words you can't answer that question - good start! The only conclusion is you know more than Allardyce does when it comes to football though.

Do you think so? What do you think the board will ask; "Sam, why did you keep a player that you've played in every match so far?"

Relegated from the Championship eh? A team with the likes of Given, Dunne, O'Shea and Keane, not to mention a whole host of other premier league regulars would be relegated from the championship? A team that held the current world champions, home and away, would be relegated from the championship?

So let's get this straight - every football writer, in every paper, every week don't know anything about football. It makes you wonder why people read them eh!

So in conclusion:

1) You know more about football than Sam Allardyce.

2) The board will be asking Sam why he's kept a player that he's played in every game so far.

3) A team consisting mostly of multi-million pound premier league players, who have held their own, home and away, against the current world champions, would be relegated from the championship.

4) Every football writer, in every paper, don't know anything about football.

Plastichead, I've got to ask - are you really this stupid or is it just an act

Incidentally, tcj_jones is this what you mean when you say I'm made to look silly?

It's refreshing to have Jonnolad back. Good work mate.

Against that French midfield I thought that Andrews did very well. He showed great energy, broke up play so many times and generally looked very competent, it is was exactly the opposite to the way he plays for Rovers were he looks nervous, gives the ball away and is hardly ever able to break up play/provide defensive cover.

Who wouldn't look nervous knowing that the majority of your own so-called supporters are on your back before the game even starts, and this is EVERY match!!

He didn't actually touch the ball that often but he did do some good pressing and interceptions when without the ball. To say he was directly up against Madrid's Diarra, he made him look very average indeed.

I thought Andrews played well yesterday. Not outstanding but decent. Some good balls played forward, pressed the opposition well (but too gave away a few freekicks)... overall a 7/10 from him, imo.

Heh, I don't know what exactly you're comparing him against, yellowsub - he completely bossed Diarra and the midfield for most of the match, his distribution was largely good, with occasional excellence, his tackling was excellent - every time a french player tried to take a second Andrews was there and more often than not came away with the ball or forced an error. If that's a 7 I have to wonder do you support Barcelona most of the time?

A few Irish players caught my eye. Sean St Ledger i thought was pretty solid, currently on loan to Boro from PNE? So too was the sub left winger McGready (celtics?). He has some pace and looked a pretty good dribbler/crosser. *hint*

St. Ledger did himself no harm at all, he looked good (so did Liam Lawrence for that matter) but McGeady is one that people have been waiting to "fulfil his talent" for years and he just hasn't, for either Celtic or Ireland. Same last night (although he wasn't really on long enough to be fair) all bustle with no real penetration.

Congratulations to KA on today being the anniversary of his very 1st cap for the RoI.*** Coming just 3 months after his transfer to BRFC from MK Dons, he must need to pinch himself every morning. He's made the most of his good fortune and well done for that but he is still very very limited for a regular starter in the Prem.

btw ... Much has been said of Trapattoni's continued selection of him but if his first cap only came at 28 (and only after he had played in the Prem coincidentally... the back stop first defence of so many international managers) then how come the managers BEFORE Trappatoni never saw him as an international player?

*** betcha didn't know that johnno! ;) You'd better circulate that info to all the other members of the Keith Andrews fan club asap. Better still why not phone em? It'll only take you 5 mins or so. :P

Disgraceful eh.

Compare that with a player who:

1) Blatantly cheated when playing against us

2) Spat at numerous fans and players during various games

3) Claimed legal aid whilst on £40k a week

4) Is currently, if reports are to be believed, our highest paid player

5) Doesn't seem to give his all every week

6) Our manager is currently looking to replace (again if reports are to be believed)

Now if fans were berating this player, then I'd personally have absolutely no inclination to defend him, but to berate, and in some cases boo, Andrews, I just find that perverse and moronic.

The "he's wonderful / he's dogpoo" debate is people who took a stance on the lad early in the Ince reign and won't back down either way.

or they are people who look at a player and make their mind up - based on whet they see, rather than what they would like to see, or who's picking them.

Aye, but we can't leave the thread alone - even when we know what we are going to find here! You've got the addiction too - just accept it.

Oh and welcome back Jonnolad, it hasn't been the same without you!

Cheers Tony (and unluckymorton) - my wife's had (another!) baby, so we're quite astoundingly busy at home. That combined with being really busy at work means I've not had chance to come on.

It's weird though isn't it; the Andrews detractors can happily post the same derogatory nonsense over and over, and that's not be boring at all. Yet I appear (once in a while) and simply point out the glaring flaws in this opinion and suddenly they're bleating that it's boring.

If you don't want the obvious failings in your argument pointing out, then don't post the spurious garbage in the first place - simple :D

You'd have thought that the Keith Andrews fan club was actually part of the Rovers fan club since, and this may be a surprise to some people, he is actually our player. But that's obviously a bit much for some of our "fans" - only some players are worthy of their support apparently, and Keith isn't one of those players.

I've no idea why he wasn't chosen to play for the ROI before incidentally - what matters to me (and I'm guessing the ROI fans as well) is that he is playing now and he's playing well.

Yup, people obviously look at a player and make their mind up.

One set of people are then backed up by absolutely, completely and categorically all the professional opinion, and the other set aren't.

Which set of people do you belong to Den?

And why is it, do you think, that all the profesionals (be they managers, ex-players or journalists) completely disagree with you?

Don't try antagonising me Jonnolad because you really will look stupid. I've actually supported Andrews all the way through. I AM extremely bored with this debate. Andrews is a decent Premier League midfielder. Not the best by far but not the worst by far either. The detractors have been negative about Andrews from the beginning (for the most part). I said, way back, that I thought people would be surprised by Andrews and I think that is the case. He's much better than a lot thought he would be. He is only a squad player.

I wish people would get off his back because he is much more commited and never stops working for the team than Diouf for example. Diouf has way more skill and talent than Andrews but his commitment is lacking. If you could combine the good of both players we'd have a worldbeater (someone we couldn't afford anyway!).

Alright, keep your hair on Ivan you big blouse

I think it's worth mentioning that we are pretty much of the same opinion of Andrews - in fact I'm surprised if you thought differently.

If you are bored with this debate though, then surely just don't take part. That's clearly the obvious solution to all those who are bleating about being bored.

Can't... Resist..... Though..... Must..... Continue..... With...... Debate

What planet are you on? Do you live in a world where you have to argue with everybody? I thought you've put forward some decent arguments in the past but you're behaving like a moron at the moment. Give it a rest.

'Can't... Resist..... Though..... Must..... Continue..... With...... Debate' absolutely sums you up.

Ive come on here for the first time in a few weeks to say a little bit about Kieth Andrews. I have not been a fan of the guy since he has been at Ewood, mainly due to him not being premier league standard in my opinion but i have never had a problem with his effort for the club!!

As i sat down last night to watch my national team play a game that I myself didnt give them a chance of getting a result I saw Kieth Andrews become a REAL player!! A player who i can be proud plays for Blackburn Rovers, a player that has, without doubt, proven his worth & warrants a place in the premier league!!!

Some people say Kieth played well last night, i say he was immense!! at times bossing the French midfield worth tens of millions!! Yes, some of his passes were not inch perfect & he may not have scored a 40 yard wonder strike but he was a giant in the stad de France none the less!!

Watching this game i was reminded of the last 15 months, seeing a player sign for our club & from that day he has never been given a chance by me, a fellow Irishman, let alone the Rovers faithful!! But in those 15 months Kieth Andrews has become not only a full international but the mainstay of the Irish team, a team that has proven to be on a par with Italians & French!! He was a key player for Blackburn in the relegation dogfight that not many people gave a chance of surviving in January last year.

And Now, we are left with a player who is worth alot more than the £750,000 we payed for him, not that i think we should even contemplate selling!!

Last night was a despairingly heartbreaking night for me, for Ireland & for football in general but a pheonix rouse from the ashes after the flames had subsided & that pheonix wore Blue & white!!!!

So Come on Rovers, give this lad a chance!! Maybe if we give Kieth Andrews a little support we will all see the player i saw last night!!!!

Atkins was twice the player Keith Andrews is.

? Absence makes the hreart grow fonder. Truth is Mark Atkins had his job outlined to him and he followed those instructions implicitely. He knew his place in the team and accepted it completely. Basically .... Work hard, close em down, stay between the ball and our goals, always make yourself available for a pass, squeeze the pitch and when you find yourself on the ball give it to Tim, Stuart, Graham or Jason asabloodyp!

And Atko scored a fair few goals.

Correct, 35 goals in 257 apps. He also had the Anti-Atkins brigade against him...

I just cant comprehend so many derogatory comments against one of our most hard working players. He does't pick himself, he is picked by the manager and gives it his all.

Andrews has first first half decent game in 3 years and predictably this Irish boggart turns up.

Wonder how he feels now the bogtrotters are out of the World Cup ? laugh.giflaugh.gif

Trappatoni had no option but to pick the lamentable Andrews owing to lack of playing resources.

Fortunately Allardyce of late has finally seen through his all too apparent limitations.

Unbelievable that whenever Andrews has a game when he doesn't have a complete nightmare, people come out and suggest he had a good game.

This says more about how @#/? he is than anything else.

Here here.

And also i don't give a damn how he performs for Ireland, its about what he does on the pitch in a Rovers shirt and its embaressing. I still stand by Mokoena being a better player than Andrews (though both are gash).
