Amo Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 If you all are so much better than Andrews, then why is he playing at that level, and you typing on a message board? No one said anything of the sort. You're just trying to twist people's words back onto them.

thenodrog Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 The problem is that Andrews can play as more of a holding midfield player- Ince knows this. Which is why Emerton was bombing forward yesterday, if Grella was fit, I can see Andrews doing well going forward, at the moment Andrews is doing a job for the team. People said that he would never cut it in the premier league, well after a couple of performances I can say that he looks comfortable in this league, can pass and has some skill too, an absolute steal for £500K. Iceman- you wont get attacked by me, I agree with what you have said. Yes but to you imy for some odd reason the sun shines out of the new regime's backsides doesn't it?
den Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Suggestion: Judge players like Andrews and Villanueva, when they're starting a game away from home - preferrably at somewhere like Newcastle, OT, or Maybe Everton. If they do well there and cause the opposition real problems, against a big crowd and quality players, then we can they're the business. That's what they need to do in this league. Part games, or games at home against poor sides when they're deemed to be "OK", prove nothing.
Iceman Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Its not about twisting anbody's words, but people criticise a player yet they nowhere near as good as even an academy player at present. What im trying to get at, is that we are so quick to criticise these players, yet we wil never get the level they at. Andrews didnt ask to be here, if you feel the lad is out of his depth then blame Ince. The guy is doing the best he can, for us the fans. What more do you want from the guy.
Hasta Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I agree Den. However the issue I've got is when he has a decent game we still get comments like:- "Andrews was chasing shadows for the majority of the game today" "For me, he is not and never will be good enough at this level. End of." "Still seen nothing to sugeest he can hack it at this level. The odd decent pass doesn't cover up for the fact that he's way off the pace." On yesterdays performance I feel they are simply not true and he's not getting judged fairly on his performance in that single game. You say being OK in games against poor sides like Fulham prove nothing. That's why I think the stick he's getting for yesterdays performance is unfair. And if it's true his name got booed by some when being read out then it once again shows what a tiny section of complete (Please dont use that word again) we have amongst our fans.

Sooo if you watched a diabolical film, you wouldn't criticise the actors or director based on the fact you're not in the movie business? It's a flawed argument. We're not the ones trying to BE Premiership footballers, therefore yourself and Andrews have to accept that he's being paid to provide a service. If people don't like it, that's their prerogative.
trs Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 [iAnd if it's true his name got booed by some when being read out then it once again shows what a tiny section of complete pricks we have amongst our fans. Believe me, it's true! I can honestly say I'm glad I wasn't in that section of the blackburn end (NO1) because ....................well I don't know, words fail me.
thenodrog Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Any manager will have a list of players that he knows that he will have to replace to improve the squad in the coming few years, and he should have an evergreen dossier on who he'd like to bring in. If I was Ince then my list of players who are not good enough for the top half of the Prem and that I would want to replace as soon as a target becomes available would contain the names (not in any particular order) of McArthy, Mokoena, Tugay, Brown, Peter, Pederson, Nelsen and of course Andrews. These players with the possible exception of Pederson have little to offer top level football anymore.

imy9 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Yes but to you imy for some odd reason the sun shines out of the new regime's backsides doesn't it? I think it is called supporting ones team, that would then imply that I am willing to give new signings a CHANCE to succeed or fail. Can you explain to me HOW exactly you can make a judgement on a player after FIVE games of football? In a team consisting of new players, trying to play a different style of football from previous seasons with a new manager and entire team, do you not think that giving them more than FIVE games is advisable, surely that is what being a supporter is all about? I also have the feeling that to a lot of people, if Rovers win, then everything and everyone is great. Is that not what happened last year? Quite clearly Sav had not been replaced, we were playing poor football, defensively we looked poor from set pieces and 6 players had handed in transfer requests!
RevidgeBlue Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I also have the feeling that to a lot of people, if Rovers win, then everything and everyone is great. That's always been the case for as long as I can remember den, but no-one seemed to complain about playing "Ugly" and winning when Sparky was here. You also have to take yeterday's game in context. After two heavy defeats it would have been a big ask to suddenly turn in the best performance of the season. We needed something to build on, defending as a unit, a clean sheet, and three points if possible and we managed all of those rather well imo.
Exiled_Rover Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 One thing Andrews has going for him is his footballing brain. He clearly reads the game very well. Sadly he's lacking technically.
des Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 after only five games give the lad a chance, and let him settle in to a a hight level of football b a new club
vintageadidas Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 He did well yesterday, if he had an italian name and was signed from a larger club people would be talking him up, but they are not because he is Keith Andrews fom MK Dons. Give the lad a chance. I HATE HATE HATE it when our fans boo our own players, to such an extent that blows have been exchanged (well, very one sided). I may pop in the Blackburn End next home game.

That's exactly how I feel. Hearing people in front of me slurring that Andrews' volley was a "sitter" and "I could have finished that" makes me laugh.
allrovertheworld Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Andrews got man of the match in the Times. I am not slagging him of with this statement coz I support the guy, but he plays like a poor mans Lampard(that sounds well bad doesn't it)...even the way he runs. Hope scores as many as Lamps

allrovertheworld Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 so during the summer we sold the poor man beckham and replaced him with the poor mans lampard That does seem to be the level our club is at. Maybe Carlos will be the poor mans Deco.
Billy Castell Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I think Andrews will never win over everyone because of his past career. He'll never be a Gerrard or Gattuso, may end up being a reliable and occaisionally impressive player. A bit like Atkins, who was never as dynamic as Shearwood or Keane, or as well known as Batty, but someone who can fit into a team and get on with their job quietly. Time will tell, but at least we don't have Hodgson as manager. Otherwise he'd cost us £4m. £750,000 is not a bad price nowadays.

I thought he was average - some very good impressive touches - mixed in with some poor positional play and poor passes. However - I agree with your sentiment - people should view him on his performances - rather than with pre-conceived ideas. Could be a lot worse - our central defence could be a mid-table German clubs ex-reserve coupled with a free transfer player deemed not good enough for Charlton. We could have an ex-Great Harwood player playing for us - or a striker that didn't get into double figures in his time in Germany, and spent most of his time on the treatment table. We have to pick up players off other clubs radar - I am not convinced that Andrews will be nothing more than a squad player - but I will give him a chance.
American Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I also have the feeling that to a lot of people, if Rovers win, then everything and everyone is great. Agree. But I have the feeling that we could win 10-0 and you would still find complaints about all of our players.
Paul Mellelieu Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Bizzarely he's got the Guardian's MOM too.
