Tris Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Two factual comments: - Nothing has emerged from anywhere which makes me think anything other than Ince was given the opportunity of spending one of the biggest transfer budgets in the club's history in terms of absolute £ms. Relative spending power was less than in '91-'95 of course. Two more factual comments. - The club no longer wastes money on overpriced players, it judges the best time to spend wisely. - What you think about Ince's summer transfer budget doesn't matter one jot in a thread about Keith Andrews - who cost diddly squat. In your "relative" terms of course!

Relative spending power was less than in '91-'95 of course. First of all, your opinion is not a "factual comment" but in any event circumstantially, there's little evidence to suggest he was. We netted at least 9-10m from Bentley's sale, and spent about a net 5.5m on Robinson, Andrews and Grella. That's at least 4m held back. Even if we pay an initial fee for Villenueva in January it's still roughly a nil net spend.
Blue n White Rover Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Andrews called up to the Republic of Ireland Squad for a Friendly VS Forest. Treacy and Nolan the other 2 that join him for a chance to impress Trapattoni. Link
imy9 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Well done to the trio- especially Andrews who is now an International player, just goes to show what can be achieved when you work hard.
BuckyRover Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I'm going to out on a (not very big) limb here and say that Andrews outperforms Castillo over the course of the season. Not looking a bad bet Well done to Andrews, an international call up!
CrazyIvan Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Is it me or do Andrews ears look like they're too low down on his head in that pic on Rovers site?
LeChuck Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Well done to the trio- especially Andrews who is now an International player, just goes to show what can be achieved when you work hard. It's not an official international game, it's actually an 'Ireland XI' as opposed to the national team. I don't think many in there have an international caps...Keogh, Murphy and Long perhaps. Trappatoni is looking at players he hasn't worked with before. Here's the squad if anyone's interested. I haven't heard of some of the players there to be honest (Wes Hoolahan?), although I have noticed Alex Bruce is in there.

vintageadidas Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Andrews is a decent player, he will prove people wrong. Cannot believe he is not being given a chance by "fans" of the club he plays for. He will be very privilidged to play for us and will give his all, unlike some "bigger" players we have. We gave support to rubbish like berner, Kuqi, Davies, Mokoena, Kaba Diawara, De Pedro, Konde, Anders Andersen, Grabbi, Darren Peacock, Dailly....the list goes on and on. Why not him????

He will be on cloud 9 now. Good luck to the 3 of them.

Majiball Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I was sure I read some where in this thread that thenodrog was gonna streak if Andrews played international football. Will he keep his word if he makes it on the pitch? Utube beckons for it if he does.
CrazyIvan Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Why do a small portion of the Blackburn End fans insist on booing Andrews? It is puerile and utterly ridiculous to boo a player who has done absolutely nothing wrong apart from be there. In fact, his stats prove he's been one of the best passers of the ball we have. On Saturday when he came on he stole the ball off two United players and played the perfect pass to Roberts who fluffed it. Will someone please tell the children up in the back corner of the Blackburn End to get behind their team?

Whichever way you look at it a boo for the player is a boo for the manager and judging by the West Ham and Man United fans reaction to Paul Ince neither set of supporters warmed to him either which now looks like being that way with many Rovers fans. This is an unhealthy situation that puts doubts over Rovers ability to progress in the near future for me.

There were many people who wanted Hughes out after his start with us, there will always be a small section of fans who are resistant to change.

Hughesy Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I agree its pathetic. This season iv heard booing for Treacy, Pedersen, McCarthy & Andrews. Its just daft. They play for our club so while they do, just get behind them. Why boo a player before he gets chance to prove himself! McCarthy & Pedersen were once two of the stars of our team, now yes they have declined in confidence but that isn’t going to be helped by their own fans booing them!
mhead Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 The whole reaction to Paul Ince,Keith Andrews, poor performances is over the top and led by a few "Board Personalities". I am ashamed of booing Shearer but as fans we have to reserve our bitterness for after they do the dirty on us. This includes gods like Colin Hendry and Brad friedel. We can laugh at the ones who leave us for stardom and money - Neill, Duff and Bentley etc. Roll on Notlob away.
OscarRaven Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I didn't' boo' but I certainly groaned at his introduction Roberts for RSC (yes, injured I know) followed swiftly by Andrews for Tugs. Just signalled to me we had given up, as Roberts can not play up front on his own and Andrews is hardly going to turn the game (unlike perhaps Carlos).
thenodrog Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Is it me or do Andrews ears look like they're too low down on his head in that pic on Rovers site? Callum Davidsons are like that. More like gills than ears. I was sure I read some where in this thread that thenodrog was gonna streak if Andrews played international football. Will he keep his word if he makes it on the pitch? Utube beckons for it if he does. The codition was that I'd show my arse on the town hall steps majiball..... if he ever plays for England.
AggyBlue Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 The Booing was because Carlos wasn't coming on and not directed at Andrews IMO
Hughesy Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I think after the forced replacement for RSC - Roberts, we should of kept Pedersen on and took Derbsyhire off (who was out of his depth against Vidic & Ferdinand), replacing him with Carlos. Andrews for Tugay was the right move as it wasnt a game for an ageing Tugay.

So why arent we all singing from the same hymn sheet BuckyRover and crazyIvan, the one thing I yearn for is for us all to be together in our agreement and support of Rovers.
gumboots Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 So why arent we all singing from the same hymn sheet BuckyRover and crazyIvan, the one thing I yearn for is for us all to be together in our agreement and support of Rovers. so give it a go. try supporting Ince instead of pouncing on his every mistake. Try biting your tongue when he gets things wrong. We're not all singing from the same hymn sheet because a lot of us want to give our manager a chance. I haven't seen or heard anything from you that suggests that you do, and I'm not prepared to join the "Ince is not the manager for us" brigade. I'm not an Ince is the best manager since time began fan either, in case you're wondering.
