Hughesy Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 To give some of the fringe players a chance to prove themselves as Trappatoni hasnt had chance to see them all in the flesh. We have two of our kids on the bench too.
mick Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 i am not sure why rovers fans would boo one of their own players either. if ince would have paid over the top for a midfielder with better credentials than andrews and that midfielder failed to make the grade or only played as well as andrews has done so far, would he have been booed? maybe the anti-ince brigade would blame ince for overspending and playing big time charlie games. could it possibly be that ince knew exactly what he was getting and good value andrews has been, so far. he has not been a match winner, but he has been far from the worst rover on the park. so fans just feel the need to complain all the time and this website gives them that forum...lord they get too much attention! playing at the international level will only help andrew's game and that will be good for brfc. i must say that other than the game against united rovers have been very watchable...something that couldn't be said about them last year.
Hughesy Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 i must say that other than the game against united rovers have been very watchable...something that couldn't be said about them last year. Very true. Last season we were Dire. Infact I cant remember one pulsating game, where I thought 'That was really good'.
tonyoz Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Seems like the lad did well. http://www.rovers.premiumtv.co.uk/page/New...1417603,00.html
67splitscreen Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 What the hell doe's Trappatoni, know about football?, A number of the posters on here know more than him. I don't think he (Andrews) has done all that bad. When he has made maybe 20 prem appearances, we will know if he can make the grade. If he can't, it's cost us 750k to find out. I'm pretty sure we will sell him for at least that, if not more.
Bennisfromheaven Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Well we could now have a new full international player on our hands, Trappatoni has just called andrews up to the full squad for next weeks game!! Must be starting to change peoples opinions! .....next stop, the world cup!! I was not too happy at this signing initially but he must have increased in value at this early stage representing a good piece of business!??!!??!!
Hughesy Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 How much did we pay again? Looks like Ince's plan will pay off eventually. Just shows what a difference it makes for a player from a personal point of view if they play in the premier league, rather than the lower leagues.
Amo Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Funny though that he's yet to prove himself in the Premiership and got called-up, but not when he was playing out of his skin in League Two.
BuckyRover Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Making quite a few people on this board look like idiots. Much to my (and their) delight
philipl Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Making quite a few people on this board look like idiots. Much to my (and their) delight The guy plays for Rovers and hope he comes good but don't forget that some right eejots have worn the green of Ireland who also masqueraded as occasional Premier League players. Case not proven either way yet.
BuckyRover Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 "Making" should read "In the process of making" I have seen enough to believe he will become a solid Premiership player, and all for the measly sum of £750k
JAL Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Making quite a few people on this board look like idiots. Much to my (and their) delight Bucky, performing well against who ......Nottingham Forrest! says it all. I'd agree thats probably more Keith Andrews level sadly we, Rovers, play against teams like Manchester United and Arsenal and that i'm afraid is the standard any current Rovers player has to emulate not that of a lower level chump chip team. Think about it Bucky. The standard has to be higher on the Rovers playing side.
gumboots Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 The guy plays for Rovers and hope he comes good but don't forget that some right eejots have worn the green of Ireland who also masqueraded as occasional Premier League players. Case not proven either way yet. No, and nor will it be if he doesn't get to play for Ireland or plays and doesn't do well. It's another step up for him and I bet he can't believe it. Good luck to him.
Bennisfromheaven Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 The fact that we bought a league 2 player & now have an international can only increase his value, so he must be worth at least 1million now!?!? In my eyes that has been good business. Well done kieth & well done Paul Ince!!
rover6 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Funny though that he's yet to prove himself in the Premiership and got called-up, but not when he was playing out of his skin in League Two. It just goes to show that players are not judged simply on merit. Similar happened with Tim Sherwood move to Spurs (England a knocking) and Saha to Man U.
Hughesy Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 "Making" should read "In the process of making" I have seen enough to believe he will become a solid Premiership player, and all for the measly sum of £750k I agree. It looks like a shrewd move. In terms of our squad, he is far from the worst performer when you look at the form of people like Reid, Pedersen etc.
LeChuck Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Making quite a few people on this board look like idiots. Much to my (and their) delight Steady on. The other four players added to the squad with Andrews are Caleb Folan, Kevin Foley, Anthony Stokes and Darron Gibson. I wouldn't want any of them within an inch of our first team (and neither would Ince probably), so this call-up doesn't really prove a thing.
CrazyIvan Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 It's nice to see a player like Andrews given a chance. Trapattoni selecting him for the full Ireland squad has to boost his confidence and his value! Is he good enough? Ince thought so, Trapattoni thinks he's worth a go, some of the posters on here don't think he is and some think he's done alright (like me). I'll go back to what I said way back; he might surprise a few people. Good luck to him. It does make you wonder who else is down in those leagues though and what the difference is between an average premier league player and an average first division player. It also makes you wonder who's been missed over the years too.
brfc_jonesy Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 wow i didnt know he'd been selected for the ireland squad, fair play to the lad! good for his confidence which will hopefully rub off on some good performances
OJRovers Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 We could see an all-Rovers midfield for Ireland in the future: Judge--Reid--Andrews--Treacy
thenodrog Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Making quite a few people on this board look like idiots. Much to my (and their) delight Oh very good Bucky. However you need to realise that Northern Ireland would likely be relegated from the Premier League in their first season.
LDRover Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Yeah well done to him on his full promotion to the Ireland squad alongside other luminaries such as Caleb Folan and Darron Gibson.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Yeah well done to him on his full promotion to the Ireland squad alongside other luminaries such as Caleb Folan and Darron Gibson. Seems like some people just can't wait to put him down, even when he does something good.
BuckyRover Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Oh very good Bucky. However you need to realise that Northern Ireland would likely be relegated from the Premier League in their first season. Very true. I don't know what that has to do with Andrews though.
