imy9 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 No problem with his attitude Modes. He can't possibly be in their league though. BTW, I wasn't being nasty, - I just had to smile when I saw imy lump Malouda, Lampard and Cole, in with Keith Andrews. I said that Andrews biggest test would be against Chelsea, probably the best midfield in the country, that was merely stating a fact. I was in no way implying Andrews was in their league!

To be fair none of our midfielders come close to the quality that Chelsea have in their midfield. Just hopefully we'll work harder and put up a better fight of it then we did against Arsenal and United. At least Andrews seems willing to try shots from long range and does get in some dangerous positions. He did if I'm honest seem a little star struck when we played Arsenal hopefully he'll be a bit more comfortable now since he's already had a few Premiership games under his belt.
Mozzer Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 ive been impressed with keith andrews-and was really glad he got his first goal for us-hes pretty decent at passing aswell..i think he could well get over 5 goals this season.he gets in good positions and has come close to scoring quite a few times.. ince knew what he was looking for when signing a midfielder-and this one aint let us down..
LeChuck Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 i think he could well get over 5 goals this season Look out Europe, here we come!
Mozzer Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 for me that would be pretty decent i mean he has come from league 2-none of our other central midfielders score goals-so getting 5 could be a decent target for him..
joey_big_nose Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 This guy has had a huge mountain to climb with the fans and to be honest he is getting there. Hughes was feted for signing quality players on the cheap. This guy looks better than a couple of them - the Axe and Vogel ( I like the latter, tidy player, but Keith has had more of an impact). He has a fair way to go to match up to the likes of Samba, Ooijer, and of course he is not going to get any where near Bentley as an outstanding quality buy but he has been decent. Credit to him and Ince. All of ince's signings seem to have a bit of quality to be fair, it is a shame injuries are preventing us from putting out a rounded team. I will be interested to see who ince elects to spend a bit of money on in terms of a winger in the transfer window. for me that would be pretty decent i mean he has come from league 2-none of our other central midfielders score goals-so getting 5 could be a decent target for him.. Thats one of our big problems at the moment. As Pedersen seems to have burned his football boots our midfiled has about 10 goals a season between all of them! Even Dunn has not really been that big a scorer since the promotion year.

Very good signing for the money paid out. Villanueva - Very tricky and very good on the ball. Will show more as he gets used to the pace of the prem. Andrews - Solid start. Had 1 or 2 dodgy performances when thrown in against Arsenal at the beginning but now starting to settle and isnt afraid to have a pop. Grella - Only played 3 games since he signed. 1st game abit off pace, 2nd game very good, 3rd game - average. Looks decent and again should get better as time goes on. Simpson - Solid for a young one. One for the future but probably at Man Utd. Maybe if City come calling for Roque we could look at a number of thier players as part of the deal - Sturridge (Big future), Onuha, Benjani
Bobby G Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Benjani is possibly a poor man's Andy Cole and absolutely sucks in my opinion taking so many efforts to get one past the keeper. No wonder Pompey gave him off so easily...
gumboots Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 actually our midfield aren't doing too badly for us on the goal front at the moment - warnock, emerton, Andrews. It's the fact that the strikers aren't scoring from open play that's causing a lot of our problems. Benni's 2 have been corner and pen. We need one of our strikers to get going and the midfield keep scoring then it won't matter so much that our defence concede too many.

Part of the problem is that the midfield department isn't creating chances for the forwards to score. The football from them in the non-business areas is great but sadly the final end product is missing. Although in the midfield's defence, the forwards are still too static when midfield are looking to make a pass.
Hughesy Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Strikers are not scoring because chances are not being made for them, so they are dropping deeper to find the ball. We miss 2 good wingers, its that simple.
modes98 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 We miss one good winger, never mind 2. Only takes one, bentley, to set up plenty of chances.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 We miss one good winger, never mind 2. Only takes one, bentley, to set up plenty of chances. One wide player is minimum Rovers' require but I would prefer one for each flank.
AndyC Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 Saturday was the first time I've seen him live, as opposed to on the TV. Anyone who thinks he's not good enough for the prem needs their head reading. Inces biggest mistake was taking him off yesterday. andrews and tugay in the middle, with pederson and derbshire on the flanks would have been so much better. get warnock back where he can cause some overlapping damage and also keep us solid.

Inces biggest mistake was taking him off? Really? Derbs should play wide right? Really? Ince's biggest mistake was not instructing his midfield to get stuck in. The same mistake that he's been making all season. Why run 20 yards to stand 5 yards off a player? If you're going to do that at least put them under pressure or there's no point doing it in the first place.
rog of the rovers Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I think its time for some fans to cut him some slack. I thought he had his best game in a Rovers shirt on Saturday, yet when talking to a fellow fan on the way out uttered the standard Andrews line "what game were you watching?"

dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I agree Rovers lost something when they took Andrews off on Saturday but I think it was more to do with ineffectiveness of the players who came on.

I thought he played well too. Some people will not accept him just because he came from League 2, which is pretty sad.
den Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I thought he played well too. Some people will not accept him just because he came from League 2, which is pretty sad. Try judging him by this analysis: Would you be worried if he was part of the opposition? I know I wouldn't, If I couldn't put together a midfield that could cope with the likes of Andrews, it would be time to pack it in.

Me neither. They're 6th in the Premier League.

Did Andrews play well in a premier league game against premier league opposition? Yes he did. Would Reid, Aaron. M instill any fear in the opposition? I still think Reid is a decent midfield player, judge the players on their performances not where they have come from. I find it quite annoying that the level of stick Andrews is getting even though he is playing well. MGP has been dire for TWO years yet people (generally) are not against him.

imy9 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Did Andrews play well in a premier league game against premier league opposition? Yes he did.that's your opinion, not mine AGREED BUT MOST PEOPLE ON HERE ARE IN AGREEMENT THAT WE DID NOT LOOK THE SAME WHEN HE LEFT THE FIELD AND HAS PLAYED QUITE WELL IN THE PREVIOUS GAMES. Would Reid, Aaron. M instill any fear in the opposition? I still think Reid is a decent midfield player, judge the players on their performances not where they have come from. What has the form of Reid or Mokoena got to do with Andrews? YOU ASKED THE QUESTION DID YOU NOT, WHETHER THE OPPOSITION WOULD BE AFRAID OF ANDREWS IN THE LINE UP, I GAVE YOU TWO PLAYERS WHO MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT INSTILL FEAR, ONE OF WHOM IMO IS A DECENT MIDFIELD PLAYER FOR US- POINT? IT IS IRRELEVANT WHAT OPPOSITION PLAYERS THINK, IT IS WHAT THE PLAYER DOES FOR ROVERS. I find it quite annoying that the level of stick Andrews is getting even though he is playing well. MGP has been dire for TWO years yet people (generally) are not against him. There is a lot of criticism of MGP, imy. Don't you read the threads? I DO READ THE THREADS AND THERE IS NO RESEMBLANCE BETWEEN THE TREATMENT OF MGP AND ANDREWS. ANDREWS HITS A SHOT OVER THE BAR AND HE IS BOOED BY HIS OWN FANS! MGP GETS HIS FAIR SHARE OF CRITICISM- IT IS EXACTLY THAT, FAIR. ANDREWS HAS PLAYED WELL/CAN PLAY WELL AND HE STILL RECEIVES ABUSE BECAUSE HE IS FROM A LEAGUE 1 CLUB- CHECK OUT THE ANDREWS THREAD, THAT WAS THE POINT I WAS MAKING.
FourLaneBlue Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I personally think Andrews has done alright since arriving and has not had a fair crack of the whip from many fans because of the club he came from and from some because of his connection with Ince and thinking he is his golden boy. So far he has looked a decent-enough squad player and I would not be surprised if we made a decent profit on him should we sell in the next couple of years.
