[Archived] Keith Andrews - Rovers Newest Signing

Recommended Posts

Its not a comparison, its a fact that people give him loads of stick, yet I have just named 5 players who have all performed worse than him this season. Why dont they get the flak?

because maybe Paul Ince signed him Hughesy. Andrews has been one of our best midfielders this season, not bad for a player who use to play his trade in Div 1 i think!!!!

He's been ok - nothing more, nothing less - and if we've got any ambitions to stay a top-half team then he'll either have to improve or be replaced.

That is right Scotty. He's doing a decent job now, however if we want to stay top ten and when we have a fully fit midfield, unless he improves he wont make the team.

Jeez Hughesy. So you don't think he's good enough for the Prem after all, because what Scotty is saying, is that Andrews wouldn't get into our team if everyone is fit - and most of those, when they are fit, aren't good enough anyway. He's "OK" now, because we have no-one else basically.

"Yeah Hughesy!!

He isn't as good as Fabregas SO I HATE HIM, I HATE HIM, I HATE HIM.

IRELAND ARE RUBBISH. INCE IS RUBBISH. I WILL NEVER ADMIT THAT THERE IS ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT HIM

(although I sort of don't approve of him being booed for no reason) IT SHOULDN'T BOTHER HIM THOUGH, GET OVER YOURSELF ANDREWS. I HATE YOU"

to be fair jal - i'm not a season ticket holder, so i only see a few games live per year ( mostly the london based ones!)

and saturday was the first time I've seen him play live - but i really did think he had a very good 45 mins. Judging by what others have told me who are there every week - he's improving with every game.

I wish the same could be said of the rest of the midfield.

Our problem is that we havent had a tireless centre midfielder since savage in his first season. and i actually think andrews has twice as much vision and skill as robbie.

I’ve been impressed with Andrews so far and he has exceeded my expectations. I don’t think he has been our best midfielder this season but he certainly hasn’t been our worst.

And herein lies the problem. You were all expecting an absolute duck. But when he plays okay-ish-like, you can suddenly turn around and say he's a good signing.

I don't think he's a bad signing. I think he was an unnecessary one that did nothing to excite the fanbase. We lose Bentley but we sign MK Dons' skipper. Great stuff, Ince. Get your priorities straight before you bring your buddies along.

I think it's terrible, Andrews (quite rightly) should be overjoyed about playing for his country tonight (which I am sure he will be, a lifelong dream I imagine).

Yet instead of us celebrating the fact we have created this amazing story for him, we resort to calling him names and booing him. Previously he was playing in League 2 (top scorer) and now is playing against Man Utd and being picked for his national team by managerial stalwart Trappatoni.

He has just achieved something amazing, yet so few people can recognise it. They can't admit that they have been corrupted by Sky TV's influence, as they cannot believe that somebody from League1/2 could make it in THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD. We have found a bargain. He has scored already and will score again. Yet people will still say things like "Mokeona is better", when previously under Hughes he was the devil incarnate.

Well done Keith, keep it up. Maybe one day you will find a Premiership team that supports it's heroes.

I said when he signed I thought he would surprise people. There were too many expecting a poor player and he has turned out to be pretty decent. Not a worldbeater but better than quite a few midfielders we have on the books. We've needed him this season with the injury list so signing him wasn't a bad idea at all but some just don't want to see that. I think he'll continue to improve and make the step up and I expect him to be a regular, he IS good enough. I expect lots of people to tell me he isn't but Trapattoni obviously doesn't think so.

It makes me laugh to see people think that the only quality players who can play at the top level exist exclusively in the Premier League. There are lots out there who at the very least could do a job and I'm sure there are one or two gems who could make it at the very highest level. How many Hull players have made it from the very bottom to the top with that club?

You are wasting your time. This board is full of people with double standards who will hate Andrews simply because he is an Ince signing. If you care to look back here you will find far worse comments about Shefki Kuqi's ability with one important difference. Most of them laud the fact that he is a trier, and also feel sorry for him because of the effort he put in There's very few openly hostile posts, and certainly no booing mentioned. Contrast that to Andrews. I'm sure there are plenty more hypocrites out there as well that feel it was disgusting to boo Shearer in black & white, yet are happy to boo their own player. Sad really, and the saddest thing is I doubt it will stop until he leaves

Before a game opposition managers will probably highlight areas in the other team and detail certain players.

For instance you can imaging them saying get tight on Tugay, show Pedersen inside, don't get caught at the wrong side of Derbyshire, keep Emerton on his left foot etc. Even when Sav played you could imagine there'd be talk of how he'll close down and not give you a minute.

Does anyone think there are any special instructions given by opposing managers pre-match on how to nullify the threat of Keith Andrews?

By any decent manager I would say absolutely yes. They'll have a plan for all the players.

Yes, as opposed to the plan they will have for Mokoena and Roberts which will be to give them the ball and then wait for it back again <_<

That didn't happen with the Axe on Saturday.

People who saw him play at Everton said he played well. He did fine against Sunderland and the same was true when he came on against Chelsea.

To be fair to the Axe, he's played pretty well this season compared to last season. He was doing the old three touch bundle against Sunderland and was lucky to get away with it a couple of times.

Here's another pertinent question, what other teams in the Premiership would pick him before one of their current central midfielders?

That's a fairly unanswerable question. I would say he could quite happily fit into any of 16 teams in the Premier League. The top 4 would be a complete stretch though.

That is exactly the point. Money spent unneccessarily when it could have been used to enhance our bid for a better player.

If Andrews had come through our youth team we would be saying 'Not Premiership quality' and sell him to a lower league club.

PS I know how old he is.

Ah, there it is you see. If you are "technically challenged" and you do okay in a couple of matches, people on here are more than happy to say you did okay, or even give you the benefit of the doubt for being a "trier". UNLESS, of course, you were signed by the current manager. Then it doesn't matter whether you do okay or not. I'm not accusing you, but that's the double standard that runs through this thread.

And whilst we are on the subject of which teams would Andrews get into - you could ask exactly the same of our entire defence on current form, Pedersen, Roberts, Reid pre-injury and Mokoena. There's that double standard again. <_< It would be easier to say RSC and Warnock WOULD get into other sides.

You're totally wasting your time LD. These Paulettes would say a bad black pudding was a good 'un, if it were dressed in blue and white.

Bloody hell - try to point out the double standards on here and suddenly I'm a Paulette :P

If it makes you really, really happy, then he'd struggle to get in any prem team midfield. But I would refer you back to my previous post - neither would over half our team on current form

Let me start off by saying that I was aware of 2 things that Andrews did particularly well on Saturday-the knock down for Warnock and an excellent pass to Simpson on the wing.

But I also noticed an awful pass to one of their players that totally broke down our move and gave them the momentum to quickly start a move. My overall view of his playing on the wing was that he was constantly drawn to the ball and as a result didn't stay in the right wing area; this might have resulted in Simpson having a poor match and certainly didn't give him protection in the 2nd half when he was targetted.

What I can't reconcile is the amount of effort Ince appears to have put in to sign a squad player. Has he done OK? Well, at times he has. Has he added much to the squad? I personally don't think so. He should never start off if the full squad is fit and I would have preferred us to go for someone younger who would have had that potential.
