den Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 From article links earlier: 1] There’s a saying in football that you can run a long way to do nothing. Mokoena and Andrews are perfect examples. 2] As my astute colleague Ben Blackmore acknowledged on Sunday a central midfield pairing of Andrews and Aaron Mokoena is bereft of Premier League quality.

roversmum Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I'm not sure about Mokoena running a long way, Den...
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 So, now Ince has gone, what do we think will become of Keith? Personally I think he will stay and be cover, as he was brought in to be. I was sceptical when he was bought but he has looked comfortable when he has played and I have been pleasantly surprised. I don't care if somebody is going to reply with "OMG U SIN HIM HE CUM FROM MK DONZ LOLOL", I'm judging him by the performances I have seen in the flesh. I think he could stay and do a job as cover. God knows we need cover there. I prefer him to Mokoena by some distance.
Amo Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I think he'll begin as cover but be slowly pushed out of the door.

Vogel should have another chance now. Impossible to understand how Andrews was chosen over and over again ahead of Johann.

den Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Can't for the life of me see what this man offers. He's nowhere to be seen when the opposition has the ball, nor does he have any real quality going forward. Our midfield, and in particular the central midfielders, just melted away in the face of the opposition in most, if not all our games this season. No more so that at Bolton. The -17 goal difference is in part because of the lack of cover from this part of the team. Yes I know Warnock was poor on Saturday, but Andrews was playing left centre and was absolutely nowhere to be seen. As for his attacking qualities - I don't see them. Where are they, what does he offer? He can't go past a man, his shooting isn't great nor does he have much vision in his game. He's not even on a par with the likes of Hignett or Berkovich in this area of the game. He just kinda, get's through.

I'm not pretending he's a great player or that it was difficult contest to have played the best ball by a Rovers player at Wigan, but he did on Satrurday, a chip over the Wigan defence for MGP to run onto along the by line in the penalty area.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Not saying he is a great player Den, just think he's shown enough to justify being cover. To add onto what O2G said, he nearly set up a goal for Warnock against Sunderland with some clever quick passing but Warnock spooned it. He does try and put people through and it has come off in the past. Think he nearly scored a free kick that game too...

Like O2G said, he made a good pass against Wigan, but IMO and a lot of others, he was very poor. Isn't being labelled "good enough to justify being cover" simply another way of saying "not good enough"? A little bit like saying "OK for the money", - that he occassionally gets labelled with.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 No. He is good enough to be cover. He isn't good enough to be a starter if Dunn, Grella, Tugay or Emerton are fit and available. He's good enough to be cover. Nothing less, nothing more.

OK, I wont get into another argument about Andrews, but I would say that to be good enough to cover, means good enough for the prem at another prem club. I don't think he is. If he isn't Prem quality he isn't good enough.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Yeah I don't want to turn this into an argument either. I think he is good back up for when our midfielders pick up injuries, that's all.
Exiled in Toronto Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 He won't be the first to be booted out by the new man, not even close
1864roverite Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Lets be brutally honest about the guy. HE IS CRAP
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Depends how you are measuring him I guess. Compared to Gerrard, Lampard and Essien, yeah, you are right. But they don't play for us. We have players like Aaron Mokoena. He's better than Aaron Mokoena.
Paul Mellelieu Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Correct. From game one it was clear the lad was nowhere near the mark.
Bobby G Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Id rather have Mokoena as a defensive midfielder. At least he wins the ball. Now where would Andrews play exactly? He is a luxury midfielder for us in my opinion and his strength might be arriving in the box, so maybe as the 3rd central midfielder in such a formation.
Amo Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 But they don't play for us. We have players like Aaron Mokoena. He's better than Aaron Mokoena. Woahoho... Is that all you've got?
vintageadidas Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 He is better than Mokoena and Reid. He is decent cover in my opinion and should not be made to be a scapegoat. He has also played well for Ireland in which he scored a very decent goal. The lad will be happy to warm the bench, so im not too bothered. He wont start many. He has a good engine. In gods honest truth Mokoena is the worst player in the Premier League. I have seen better down the park on a Sunday and that is no word of a lie.
Mc Love Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Id rather have Mokoena as a defensive midfielder. At least he wins the ball. And then doesnt know what to do with, dances a jig and loses it
joey_big_nose Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 It is daft to have a go at Andrews. About half our squad have played worse or just as badly as he has. Not an inspirational signing certainly, and would not start if everyone is fit. He is also a forward looking midfield player who keeps his head up for a pass. We only have three of those: Tugay, Dunn and Andrews. We should have signed better, I don't dispute that, but we wouldhave been in an even worse position without him.

If we stuck Vogel in there, yes he's more defensive than Andrews and we wouldnt have had the forward looking aspect, but he's arguably a much better football and we wouldve been better at keeping the ball, been more solid in CM etc. We have been awful in CM this season, granted Ince was unfortunate with Dunn and Grella's injuries, but playing Mokoena and Andrews together there has left us wide open and offered us very little going forward centrally too.
Sandiway Blue Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 In all honesty if BFS gets the gig,i can`t see him being a fan of Spongebob Andrews, hopefully somebody will be in for him in January. I wonder how the other players rate him.....
