DavidMailsTightPerm Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 In all honesty if BFS gets the gig,i can`t see him being a fan of Spongebob Andrews, hopefully somebody will be in for him in January. I wonder how the other players rate him..... Wouldn't be so sure - BFS likes his hard working up and down type midfield players (e.g Nolan). Who knows - with a decent team pattern we might actually see more from Andrews.

tony gale's mic Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I could see him going for Vogel in midfield, BFS likes ex-quality players whose careers have taken a bit of a downturn...and usually does well with them.
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It will be interesting to see how Andrews will figure in a new managers view...
Alan75 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 It will be interesting to see how Andrews will figure in a new managers view... or how he doesnt
AussieinUk Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 or how he doesnt In all honesty Alan... thats essentially the point I was driving at.. but you probably realised that anyway
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Trapattoni has picked KA to start for ROI for the first time tomorrow. So well done to him.
CrazyIvan Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 So Andrews has continued to figure week-in week-out for Rovers and is now in the full ROI squad to start tomorrow. Hmm. I take it people are still saying he's a 2nd Division player then?
BuckyRover Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Ince is an idiot, Sam is an idiot and Trappatoni is an idiot. Obviously (Only one of them is an idiot really)
grizfoot Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 To be fair to the all the ani-Andrews people out there he was poor against Villa on Saturday. But I still think overall he's doing a reasonable job. Good to see him playing for his national side, Trappatoni must obviosuly rate him.

I take it people are still saying he's a 2nd Division player then? Erm, no. He got promoted to league 1 so maybe that's his level... Having seen him on numerous occasions I think he's no certainly more than a Prem squad player...
Amo Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Squad player at best. Too much of a passenger in the Prem. I was thoroughly disappointed to see Big Sam choose him on Saturday with the options available to him.
American Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Having seen him on numerous occasions I think he's no certainly more than a Prem squad player... Which is exactly what he should be, but unfortunately, our starting midfielders are one or both always injured, and our squad isn't as deep in midfield as it needs to be.
philipl Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I will probably go to Malta v Albania tomorrow night- all those lads will be winning international caps too.
DeadlyDirk Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I will probably go to Malta v Albania tomorrow night- all those lads will be winning international caps too. Pretty sure that those countries are a much lower standard though than Republic of Ireland. ....... Indeed after a quick check of the Fifa World Rankings Ireland are 37th, Albania are 78th and Malta are 148th. I think we have to end this constant hate towards Andrews, he didn't bring himself to Rovers and he's not the one who keeps picking himself in the starting eleven. Now I'm no massive Andrews fan but at the end of the day he has done okay, no worse than most of the team have at times. We should get behind him because he wears a Rovers shirt, people just find it hard to see past the fact that he came from league two and was seen as one of 'Ince's boys'. The fact that Allardyce and now Trappatoni continue to pick him suggests he must be doing something right. Sometimes we only see what we want to see. Grella has certainly done no more than him and he came from Serie A, I don't see him getting half of the harsh comments that Keith has had during his time here. As I said I'm no Andrews fan but we need to move on from Ince and give the guy a break, right now he is a Rovers player and will be until at least the summer, during that time we have to get behind him and give him our 100% support. The same goes for Robinson.

But I still think overall he's doing a reasonable job. Good to see him playing for his national side, Trappatoni must obviosuly rate him. I think it's probably more due to the fact he has little choice in that position at the moment. Andrews is partnering partnering Glen Whelan in there, he's not really Premiership standard either.
my_name_is_Earl Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I think it's probably more due to the fact he has little choice in that position at the moment. Andrews is partnering partnering Glen Whelan in there, he's not really Premiership standard either. I agree with those sentiments. Andrews cannot be faulted for effort or commitment but I still think he's got a very lucky break and although he has certainly tried his best, he is still sadly lacking what it takes to play week in, week out in the Premiership. For me, he goes missing in games. Sometimes you forget he's playing and the rest of the team have to carry him. Good luck to the chap though hope he has a good game for the ROI.
thenodrog Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Andrews is a bit part player at best. His main 'talent' appears to be at continually getting in the way of his teammates. Not his fault but he is not Premier League standard and never will be. Worse still he never was!
tonyoz Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I have defended Keith on here a few times..............mostly because the bile projected in his direction has been way over the top. He had a very poor game on Saturday though - but he wasn't the only one. "Tugay the Magnificent" was poor too. Andrew's strength is his ability to pick a pass but he is awful in defence. His attempts at tackling are sometimes embarrassing. He seems to run into the opposing player and invariably gives away a free kick. Sam picks him because the rest of the options are crap. Pedersen only plays because he tracks back effectively. When was the last time he gave us anything going forward? I am worried about Grella; he looks like another "sicknote" doesn't he? I like the look of Spit. He showed flashes of what he might bring when he settles. Oh, for someone to run at the opposing defence and cause a few collywobbles! Treacy is unconvincing (putting it politely) and Dunn will probably never play regularly again. Vogel is drawing his pension. The Axe is OK as a last resort. On the Carlos thread I have advocated another chance. Anybody like to remind me how many games Bentley or Jansen took to convince us of their class?
thenodrog Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 On the Carlos thread I have advocated another chance. Anybody like to remind me how many games Bentley or Jansen took to convince us of their class? Jansen 1......... and Bentley took precisely until the very next match after we'd signed him fully from Arsenal.
LeftWinger Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Jansen 1......... I'll never forget that game. I thought he looked quality, and I said as much to my dad who was sat next to me in the Riverside. My dad responded with "He doesn't, he just keeps dribbling round the same player". Just as he finished his sentence, Matty spun Campbell and flashed a left-foot volley into the bottom corner.
tonyoz Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Jansen 1......... and Bentley took precisely until the very next match after we'd signed him fully from Arsenal. Heh heh! Thanks for that.
BuckyRover Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 It makes absolutely no sense to get on his back. Incredibly counter productive. Anybody that thinks otherwise is a <INSERT WORD(S)>
rover6 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Jansen 1......... and Bentley took precisely until the very next match after we'd signed him fully from Arsenal. Steven Reid, then? Andrews deserves time. If Savage and Flitcroft can forge decent Prem careers, Andrews can easily - give the right attitude and support from manager.
Al Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Andrews deserves time. Preferably in Strangeways.

Again you judge a player by comparing them with players you judge as not good enough. By that criteria, anyone's good enough. If we were to go down this season, Andrews and Grella as a midfield pair wouldn't be up to the task of getting us back up. There are better players in the Championship.
