den Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 The question should be who out of Mokoena and Andrews has had the best season? This is because both players have been fit all season and who has had most playing time and who has had most influence. Again, comparisons with terminally unfit, or [this time] the useless. Compare him with some of the midfielders who are good prem players.

RevidgeBlue Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Why? I don't know what to say really without being too disrespectful to a Rovers legend. Let's just say he has looked like he's about to turn 39 this season.

dingles staying down 4ever Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Again, comparisons with terminally unfit, or [this time] the useless. Compare him with some of the midfielders who are good prem players. These are the only two central midfielders who have been fit all season so that is why I'm comparing those two AT Rovers. Why compare other players over the last season. But if we are to compare other team's players I'll ask the question you like asking. Like who?
47er Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Good things about Andrews: plenty of energy/always fit Bad things-------he's not good enough. Question is not "where would we have been without him this season?" but "where would we have been with somebody else?"
RevidgeBlue Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Compare him with some of the midfielders who are good prem players. How much do they cost? Your criticism should be directed against the owners for not providing the funding to acquire said "good" players. About four years ago Hughes was reputedly looking at Petrov for around 7 or 8m, that's when Tugay should have been replaced.

Yep if we'd signed Stevie G or Frankie L. we'd be top 4 but we could not afford them. Seriously the question you ask should not be asked of Andrews as he was only ever going to be a squad. The majority of the budget for midfield was blown on Grella that is who that question should be asked of.

dingles staying down 4ever Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 That's another argument that we will both agree on Rev. On a footballing basis I agree as well
thenodrog Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Agree but with our finanaces I'd say impossible. Why? Our best players namely RSC, Samba, Warnock cost about the same IN TOTAL as we are currently asking for Derbyshire. Thats the way to run the club surely? Buy cheap, develop and sell when they are at the top of their market. 2-3 million for Andrews would represent excellent business.... if we could find someone to pay it.
Hullrover Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Remember 'Super Atko'; not the worlds greatest player; but committed; box to box; scored important goals. Pretty much the unsung hero from 90 to 95. Took a fair bit of flack in his time; was replaced by Batty for the final game of 94-95(which we lost). Without him we would not have won the title. Without Andrews we would not be safe today.
riverside returns Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 At last, someone else who recognises the important contribution from Keith Andrews. An unsung hero who has tried his best despite the criticism and booing. It was not his fault he was brought to the club, he has just done his best.
American Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Again, comparisons with terminally unfit, or [this time] the useless. Compare him with some of the midfielders who are good prem players. Or you could due the true comparison and ask how many other 5th choice central midfielders in the prem are better? I don't think we could have asked for more from a squad player. If he was brought in to be our starter, I could see your point, but he wasn't.
BRFC1995 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 to say i think andrews should stay in no way justifies having ever signed him, but merely that if he earns a squad player salary and can perform as an average player when called upon then there is no real reason to bin him off other than to get the last stains of the ince debacle washed out of the club. i honestly prefer having the fella in midfield over grella..........2 poor signings who can easily be improved upon with bosmans and loans, i'd sooner grella saw the door first simply because i imagine he is a greater financial drain plus he's rank bad.

I've got a feeling Grella will be decent next year. He certianly isn't going anywhere. Plus Sam rates him. So will reserve judgement.

begresko Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Just noticed that Keith Andrews scored the same amount of goals in the EPL as Alfonso Alves. Wonder why boro got relegated
roverthemoon Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Keith Andrews played a peach of a pass to Robbie Keane who didnt have to break stride before rounding the goalkeeper to score. Rep Ireland 1 - Nigeria 1 HT (playing at Craven Cottage)
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Isn't it funny, if a team like Bolton, Wigan or Stoke signed Keith this summer for a million or two this summer, as im sure he would have got a move without us from MK Dons, their would be praise for the team buying him and the fans would be chuffed. But because some Rovers fans considered this Paul Ince doing him a favour, he doesn't/we don't get half the credit he/we deserve... I'm not saying he's a world beater, but he is definately a step up from Mokoena and the likes. I'd also go as far to say he represents far far better value for money then Grella...

Keith Andrews big problem is, no pace and awful ball retention, Grella is a much better player technically, without slating Andrews, but Grella does the right things!!

If somebody could show me an example of that in the last 3-4 games. It would be greatly appreciated...
mellison24 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I think the difference is that we know Keef's level. We are yet to REALLY see what Grella can do (altho that may be being unfair on Keef?)
