jim mk2 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm not obsessed with Andrews. It's just that I don't mind speaking up for people, especially our own players, who I think are being unjustly prejudiced, even if it goes against the majority (from a psychological perspective why not have a think about our differing positions on this one and see what it says about our respective personalities). But you are obsessed with Andrews, to the point where you come across as disturbed. You also always think you are right and it is apparent you are unable to see another person's point of view. Have you considered seeing a psychologist ? For someone with an obsessive personality it will be extremely difficult but for your own health but I would suggest you refrain from posting on the subject forthwith.

And you're obsessing about his obsession. Whenever he stops, you start again and vice versa.
Jonnolad Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 And you're obsessing about his obsession. Whenever he stops, you start again and vice versa. What about you though - you're obsessing about him obsessing about me obsessing Back on subject - another decent performance from Andrews last night - one goal and a shot from our own half which just missed as well apparently (or did he mean it to be a back pass ).
Hughesy Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Yep - thank God we saw Cambridge off in a pre season friendly warm up I was being sarcastic - which is more than the fella below I think ha! Back on subject - another decent performance from Andrews last night - one goal and a shot from our own half which just missed as well apparently (or did he mean it to be a back pass ).

gumboots Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Yep - thank God we saw Cambridge off in a pre season friendly warm up I know it was only cambridge but I for one am very pleased we actually beat them as we've not done that (beat lower teams without too much effort) in preseason as often as I think we should.
broadsword Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Wasn't Nelsen almost 28 when he made his top flight debut (I don't count MLS as top flight, even as an American)? I think his emergence has more to do with his strengths being appreciated and weaknesses being worked around than anything else, and having talent around him that his grit was able to compliment. There are a lot of players who aren't naturally talented who have made a good career (enter Beckham joke here). Perhaps Nelsen was, I can't remember. Can you think of any more examples (I certainly can't)? Bit different for central defenders though, they peak later (or tend to) than other outfield players, so you could understand his late emergence more. I think his emergence had more to do with I*ce doing his old mates a favour. I'm willing to bet a substantial sum (say a fiver) taht if I*ce hadn't have bought him, he'd still be chugging around teh lower regions of professional football right now.
American Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 That's a part of it, but Sam continuing to play him and showing faith helped, too. Might be getting into revisionist history here, as I don't remember clearly but wasn't he deemed as not in Sam's plans when he first showed up?
Kelbo Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 That's a part of it, but Sam continuing to play him and showing faith helped, too. Might be getting into revisionist history here, as I don't remember clearly but wasn't he deemed as not in Sam's plans when he first showed up? Personally, I dont think he will get many starts next year if the squad stay fit!! May be ok as a bench player with a bit of cover for two or thre positions but I dont think he is up to much!!
Fife Rover Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Keith Andrews is a solid and effective player who can score the odd goal, he isn't a world beater but I would certainly have him as part of the squad next season. Well I reckon that is probably the best post so far on this subject (well the best I can remember of over 1800 posts and without reading them all again). Short and bang on the point....well done. Now can we have this thread closed please mods, as I am quite sure there are many on both sides of the argument that are sick and tired of it.
den Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Why close it Fife? There's no reason whatsoever to close it.
Fife Rover Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Why close it Fife? There's no reason whatsoever to close it. Can you think of anything that hasn't already been said Den? It is now beyond just boring and well into annoying.
den Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Can you think of anything that hasn't already been said Den? It is now beyond just boring and well into annoying. There might be something new tomorrow or in a month or years time Fife. Can't close it because you're fed up. It's also inspired you to the "brick in a handbag" jibe, which was quite good.
Jonnolad Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I think his emergence had more to do with I*ce doing his old mates a favour. I'm willing to bet a substantial sum (say a fiver) taht if I*ce hadn't have bought him, he'd still be chugging around teh lower regions of professional football right now. Who cares though? All that should matter is how he performs for us surely. Is he playing well enough? Well Sam seems to think so - 27 premier league starts proves that. Was he a bargain at £750k? Well if Fulham have offered us £2m and Rovers won't even talk to them at that, then he was clearly a bargain at that price. As far as a rise in value goes, at a 3 or 4 times increase he was far and away our best buy last year in fact. What does it therefore matter where he came from? As I said before I couldn't care less if he'd been in a psychiatric ward for the past 10 years, as long as he keeps playing his best for us that's all that matters to me - especially when he seems to be outperforming other supposedly better players.
jim mk2 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 There might be something new tomorrow or in a month or years time Fife. Perhaps close it after we've sold Andrews to Fulham .... hopefully very soon. Question is, could we include the resident psychiatric patient as part of the deal ?
DeadlyDirk Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It just cracks me up that this topic is still going strong 94 pages in and is still one of the most active discussions on the forum! Keith did a decent job for us when needed last season which ended up being most of the time and will do this year if ever called upon, if someone wants to give us 3m to move him on then let him go but there are plenty of worse players we could have knocking around the squad as backup, most of which wouldn't be happy to be backup and would probably want higher wages as a start. Do the club release figures on shirt sales of each player? I'd love to know how many Andrews has sold!! I've got a lot of respect for him because he plays for Rovers has always tried his best and never brought any negative press or anything on the club because of his actions, you can't ask anymore than that from him or anyone. He's a late started both to premiership football and international football and for that he's continually trying to prove himself and show that he deserves to be there. He's a decent squad man, nothing more, nothing less.
Grez Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I'll be the first to admit that I was not impressed with signing Keith (probably because he was bought by Ince, whom I detested with a passion), however, I think he will become the Super Atko or Jason Wilcox for the coming 2 or 3 seasons. He's one of those who gets stuck in and keeps their head down. Even better, he keeps his mouth shut. I just wish some other rovers players have the manners to do the same. In short - I'm glad he makes up the numbers... of course, everyone has a price!

We'd win the title again with Super Atko! He's all we need! Go go Super Atko!

It's also inspired you to the "brick in a handbag" jibe, which was quite good. Oh dear Den! I don't think I could abide another year of this drivel. If that happened I think I would be going out with MY handbag, but with a gun in it and looking for those two miscreants.

You realize that I haven't responded to JonnoLad in a few days now and yet you've moaned numerous times since? Hey, I've left the threat to get back on track and, unsurprisingly, it hasn't. Guess why?
Tris Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Guess why? Because Andrews put in a decent shift last night and stuck a goal in the top corner. And thankfully posts like the one below have stopped. Andrews is ######. Andrews is ######. Andrews is ######. Andrews is ######. Andrews is ######.
tcj_jones Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 You mean all one of them? One used in order to make a point on annoying and pointless repetition?
American Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 You mean all one of them? One used in order to make a point on annoying and pointless repetition? And yet you haven't gotten your point yet....
tcj_jones Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It is posts like your own and the two previous which are forcing me to repeat myself. Jesus, I can't be bothered with justfying myself anymore.
SouthAussieRover Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Perhaps close it after we've sold Andrews to Fulham .... hopefully very soon. Question is, could we include the resident psychiatric patient as part of the deal ? Yes Jim, we would willingly include you as part of the deal and send you to Fulham too.
