[Archived] Keith Andrews - Rovers Newest Signing

Recommended Posts

Den's final thought

Summed up well.

Thank you.

and just to be clear - I'm happy to watch Rovers winning, with or without KA. Don't boo him or jeer him. Nor do I judge him on where he was before Ewood, or who brought him here. I simply think he's playing a division or two too high.

you don't speak for me,andrews is not crap, his performance against Italy highlighted that one for me

One game where he looked remotely decent? (I would disagree even on the basis of that game however, as would many others judging by this match report - Andrews voted 10th of Ireland's 14 players, hardly a "star turn")

And how about his 30-odd sub-par performances for us? Bless Keith Andrews, he tries very hard, but is simply is not good enough for the Premier League. Never has been, never will be.

Here's the key point - Having players like Andrews in the squad doesn't lessen the prospect of relegation; it enhances it.

I don't think there is any doubt that those things do not help the cause of Andrews with our supporters however. Without those things to overcome he still would not be a better player but he would fly under the rader somewhat more.

Den I agree with you, summed up well, I am with option which states that he is a good squad player.

As far as the above, I used my eyes and judged that he performed well against a top side and did not look out of place.

30 sub standard performances- he scored in 4 of those games and played out of position in a number of them, had it not been for Keith Andrews we would have seriously struggled this season with the injuries to Dunn, Grella, Reid.

The key point is that EVERY team needs a Keith Andrews, he may not be a star performer but his job is appreciated by the management and players- usually fans too but it does not seem that way here.

Well, there are two sides to most of the arguments in this thread.

He was played by Sam in midfield - Does that mean Sam rates him or that we had loads of injuries?

He played at international level - Is that because he is a decent player or because the other players competing for places are average?

He played at right back ahead of Ooijer against Spurs - Is that because Sam preferred him to Ooijer or because Ooijer had an injury/is older and just played an international etc?

He played at right back ahead of Zurab - Is that because Sam preferred him to Zurab or does Sam not rate Zurab that much, especially at right back/Zurab's match fitness?

He has been playing in the lower leagues for most of his career - Is that because he isn't premier league standard or is it irrelevant because he is playing there now?

He was bought by Ince - Was that because he was Ince's friend or because Ince really rates him?

Roy Hodgson wants to buy him - Is that because Roy really knows quality players or is there a manager alive who hasn't signed a player that wasn't up to it?

The problem with all of the above is that they can only be resolved with opinions. If Keith is still with us next season, then some of the questions will be answered factually, for example with Sam still play him in midfield if we don't have any injuries.

I don't think anyone really thinks that he is a world beater, but some people think he is decent, while others think he is average or poor. Like Den says, it all comes down to opinions.

Andy Cryer in tonight's LET reporting on Roma 2-Rovers 2 says:-

"Keith Andrews was probably Rovers star performer in the opening 45 minutes, dictating play with a confidence seldom seen

from him last season, while after the break David Dunn continued his comeback from injury with a strong display in a deep-

lying midfield role."

Rock on, Keith lad.

 I think that applies to you as much as to him!

To be honest, neither you (or LeChuck, tcjjones or the rest of the obsessives) have come up with a single reason to back up your point of view which is more valid than those of jonnolad backing up his.

And whilst he's been called a freak, an absolute tool, accused of having a personality disorder and having a gay love affair with Keith Andrews, being an irritant and being impossible ... he has just made his points politely and without insult.

I agree with darth paul and tonyoz - whoever is right or wrong about the player, in terms of this thread there is only one winner.

Tris, in light of the plethora of responses highlighting the unbelievable repetitiveness of Jonno's posts and his seeming obsession with Keith Andrews, would you like to elaborate on how I am 'far, FAR more repetitive' than him? I'd love to know and you didn't explain when I asked before. Hilarious that you could label myself and the several others who have responded 'obsessive'.

If you cannot see the provocative nature of Jonno's posts then, frankly, you're as blind stubborn as he is.

I cant recall a player in recent times causing such a polarity of opinion as our keith Andrews! My take is that he wasnt as bad as some supporters make out. I have spoken to many fans and the consensus is that he`s ok but there is a feeling which I share that we will see second season syndrome. Whereby he can consider himself a good prem player and blossom into a very good midfielder. I think we may see a more confident Andrews next season and the fact that Sam has turned down an offer for him would suggest that he perhaps feels the same.

Whyoy is there such an anti Andrews wave on this board, when there are other members of the team that could come in for equal or even more criticism and yet there's a kind of hush.......

We don't play Kilashvilli in the team cause he is ohhh sooo slowww

Some say Grella had one good game last year.......I didn't see it

Reputedly barn doors are safe when Roberts gets within six yards of goal

Why do they play Warnock in midfield..... because he's rarely in position when he's used at full back

Keith Tracey..........smart looking lad but a footballer?????

Pederson/Emerton When did either of these so called wingers beat a man on the outside ?

Sorry I seem to have strayed off topic ----- Andrews has never been known to tackle anyone. Has any of the detractors mentioned that yet?

Since we are giving criticism to everybody, how can a Blackburn Rovers supporter spell the name of 3 players wrongly in one post? granted you was only one letter out in 2 of them! But hell? Khizanishvili and Kilashvilli is embarrasingly bad

Have we named a captain for next season yet?

Hold on to your hats guys....

Nelsen captained the second half in Roma

Warnock captained the first half

however nothing has been made official yet

You spelled "Nelsen" incorrectly!

Which automatically means that we must be incorrect about Andrews, neat theory. Imy9 Lechuc felt that after the Portsmouth game Ince's reign should be over, unlike many I wanted to give him a chance, he failed and we suffered but I am giving the same support for Sam. Hindsight is a wonderful thing

Shaun Goater was never a top international player and one of the greatest premier league players ever was he? Oh right becuase I think that was the reason I willing to give Fowler a chance on a pay as you play deal.

Well it certainly calls into question your sporting knowledge or acumen. Andrews isn't good enough at this level. He has an accurate passing range of about 6 feet, can't head a ball straight, tackles incredibly recklessly and when faced by a decent midfield trails along 6 fee away from his midfield partner. On the good side, he scores the occasional goal and stays fit. Just as I don't think Pedersen is good enough, I think Andrews is a vastly inferior version of him. I sincerely hope he's gone before the start of ther season, or at the very least relegated to the stiffs for the year.

Ince got his mate a payday. I hope we don't prolong it.

On the basis that I was willing to give a player with the background Fowler a chance on a pay as you play deal? Your right crazy idea!

I would seriously question your football acumen if you think that MGP is not good enough- his assists alone have proved valuable to us.

On Andrews obviously other managers have a different view on him as Roy Hodgson is willing to pay good money to sign him, does he lack sporting knowledge/acumen too?
