DanLad Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Compared to people "in the know" I presume, not your average pleb on a messageboard. I don't recall him providing a comparator. I appreciate your point, however.

dingles staying down 4ever Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Anyone seen Simon Garners comments in the Telegraph about KA? It seems that another person with ACTUAL knowledge of the game seems to think he is an asset to the club...interesting... Knowledge or towing the club line. If we had got shut, chances are the article would have said he wasn't good enough. The LET is desperately trying to stay on side with the club as it is one of the two ways it gets its stories. The other being this web site. BTW, Andrews is a Sam type of player in the mould of Kevin Nolan so I can see why Sam has rewarded him with a new contract.

To be honest, Garner is an awful pundit/writer, and his opinion is usually as repulsively bias as 'Hughsie' from this MB.
philipl Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Andrews second best to the Leeds midfield this afternoon.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 The entire team is second best. No need to bump this thread every bleeding game, it's getting ridiculous.
broadsword Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 You sound a bit touchy? Think you'll have to get used to it, the spotlight will be on him this year for sure.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I just find that bumping the thread to criticise after every game (preseason as well!) is bordering on stupid. Especially when he's not stood out from the rest, for better or worse.
tcj_jones Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Hey, if certain people are using the fact that Andrews is starting pre-season friendlies as a basis for their argument that he is rated highly by Allardyce and that he is, in fact, a good player, then a poor performance in a pre-season friendly can equally be used to counter this argument.
American Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Hey, if certain people are using the fact that Andrews is starting pre-season friendlies as a basis for their argument that he is rated highly by Allardyce and that he is, in fact, a good player, then a poor performance in a pre-season friendly can equally be used to counter this argument. By that logic, I guess I can use the same friendly to say that Nelsen isn't a good player?
tcj_jones Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 That would be a rather deterministic way of interpreting my post and I wouldn't advocate that logic at all. On the other hand, if performances in pre-season friendlies are being used as a basis to argue that Andrews is a good player, then his poor performance can be used to counter that argument.
philipl Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Sorry, I thought he was worse. Tackling ineffectual, distribution iffy at best and repeatedly done for pace by Div 3 dollopers. When Dunn came on, we had a real Premier League central midfielder on the park.
Exiled in Toronto Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 When Dunn came on, we had a real Premier League central midfielder on the park. ...who hasn't completed 90 minutes for well over a year.
Steve Moss Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 ^ Aren't the 'friendlies' part of the getting fit, working out the kinks, process? If so, we should take a deep breath and actually wait for the season to start before declaring disaster.
jim mk2 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 "Good enough for the Prem," said Andrews's agent / mum / dad / uncle / brother in this thread. On the evidence of today if / when we have all our best midfield players available this useless excuse for a footballer won't even make the bench. Fulham wherefore art thou ?
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Fulham wherefore art thou ? Haven't we just signed this one for another 4 years?
Amo Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I'm sure we could find someone in the youth team who could run around a lot, play the simple pass, and have the occasional crack at goal. Nothing personal, Keith. But we need better.
rover6 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Someone suggested on another thread that Alan Judge is a better footballer than Andrews. Granted, Judge hasn't done it in central midfield but after another man-of-the-match performance for Plymouth today, following up his collection from last season, I just wonder if we have made a mistake in letting him go out on loan.
Blue blood Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Not his best performance today but then to be fair to the lad, he should never be the leading/experience one in our central midfield. Thought his contribution would have been just about acceptable if he had been the less experienced of the two, but wasn't a responsible, example of a performance for N Zonzi to play off. As soon as Nelsen, Emerton, heck even Grella gets fit, he'll be nowhere near the team. And I don't think Judge is the answer either. I think a loan is just what he needs as he needs regular first team football to see whether he can make it. A year in our reserves won't do that.
JAL Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Andrews CAN play midfield for Rovers 'providing' the forward TWO are strong, and the right and left side of midfield are also very good. If Rovers cant meet any of the above requirements then I agree with everybody else.

I don't believe so - and I've seen a lot of young Judge. He hasn't the pace for the wing and is not strong enough for central midfield in the Premiership. He is a slightly inferior version of Damien Johnson. I suspect he will do well at Championship level but I think he is just a little below what we need at the moment. However, another season with Plymouth may help his development. Diouf and Pedersen got through a tremendous amount of work today in the wide positions in midfield but also had the physical strength to withstand tackles and also make tackles. In pre-season, Judge has been too easily knocked off the ball. I'm not saying that Andrews is the answer in midfield, I really don't believe that he is good enough. However, when Emerton is fit then I would envisage Sam using him in that role along with either Dunn, Grella, or Reid. Once everyone is fit Judge would be well down the pecking order.

I have a feeling this might be a reference to a comment I made comparing Andrews and Judge directly, however I think you have misrepresented what I said slightly. My comment was that based on what I had seen that evening, in terms of ability, I don't think there is much difference between Judge and Andrews. I certainly wouldn't advocate putting Judge in the first team squad (not at the moment at least) but what I would say is that when (if) Dunn, Grella, Reid and Emerton are fit, they and probably now N'Zonzi as well should be ahead of Andrews for a place in the team and on that basis Judge could possibly take Andrews place as squad man.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Absolutely abysmal performance today. If Fulham were ever interested JW needs to get back on the phone and beg.

After a mere 4 touches to get it under control, he checks his options (Man ###### have by now learned they don't need to tackle him so leave him alone) He takes careful aim and passes crossfield- DIRECTLY to a Man ###### player in tons of space. Would someone just injure him, already? I don't care if he's all we have fit- I'd prefer one of the disabled lads at the front of the Jack Walker to him.

Backroom Tom Posted August 15, 2009 Backroom Posted August 15, 2009 I've supported Keith in the past but today he was shocking, there was a time when he tried to foul SWP and didn't really do that well either
