[Archived] Keith Andrews - Rovers Newest Signing

Recommended Posts

I've supported Keith in the past but today he was shocking, there was a time when he tried to foul SWP and didn't really do that well either

It's a funny old game. I've slated Andrews in the past, and fully expect to again in the future, but I thought he was ok today. No more than that mind, but probably as good as he's ever been for us.

Andrews CAN play midfield for Rovers 'providing' the forward TWO are strong, and the right and left side of midfield are also very good.

If Rovers cant meet any of the above requirements then I agree with everybody else.

Considering that, in his time at the club, we have had neither two strong wingers nor two strong strikers - and certainly not all playing at the same time and in the same side as Andrews - I'm not sure how you can even go that far.

I haven't seen the game - I'll be watching it later - but it doesn't surprise me. He is a poor player, but I just hope that the fans will refrain from booing him.

Worst part of me was seeing Andrews again selected in the starting line up. Everything after that was pretty much par for him.

Occasionally he will excel himself and look average but if it's true that we rejected £3m then that is criminal, particularly when we are scrimping so badly. It's unlikely we'd get an improvement for that kind of money but we could have put it towards the money we did have for a better midfielder.

Having him sign a new contract can only be down to JW keeping his word to the lad - and possibly giving us a chance to recoup some money. Do Pompey not fancy re-acquanting him with Moko...?

In fairness though, it's not Andrews' fault that he keeps getting picked but if we do manage to break the bank and sign a new CM, and Andrews continues to start games, some serious questions will need to be asked.

I feel exactly the same, watched the game twice just to make sure and he was horrible. No wonder we played hoofball all day and completely discounted the midfield when possible.

I thought the story was we were holding out for £3m for Andrews with Fulham offering less than that figure?

In that case, please read £2m instead of £3m in my comment and my argument is still the same.

In the second half I thought he was shocking Scotty. Every promising attack we had ended with him either kicking the ball clean out of play or passing it straight to a city player.

Which person came on here when Jonno was going off and said 1 of Andrews attributes was that he was a good passer of the ball. Whoever it was hang your head in shame!

Any reasonable offer should be taken to get the wage off the books and the trustees off the manager's back.

I'm not disagreeing with everybody just saying that the players around him have to be stronger to accomodate him. Keith Andrews as a stand alone midfielder is definitely not good enough.

When Keith was chasing Bellamy one moment hes on Bellamys back over the next ten to twenty yards Bellamy is just leaving poor Keith for dead allowing Bellamy to run onto our back four with ease.

Then when KA had to play a penetrating cross into one of our forwards, the ball goes back across the pitch and out of play with absolutely no Rovers players in sight. Think big Sam had seen enough by then and on came Gally for KA.

The others definitly do have to raise there game to compensate for Keith, touble is I'm not sure even Chelsea's could!!!

In the squad fine, but seriously if we have to play him there most of the year, well we'll just end up thinking what ifs again.

Someone suggested on another thread that Alan Judge is a better footballer than Andrews. Granted, Judge hasn't done it in central midfield but after another man-of-the-match performance for Plymouth today, following up his collection from last season, I just wonder if we have made a mistake in letting him go out on loan.

If the Sunday Mirror giving him a 4 makes him MOTM, that's a sad statement for Plymouth!

Ah OK, I see what you mean. I'd agree, there is nothing about him as a player and he always has to be accommodated. Unfortunately, we don't have to the quality to do so.

I think I know your mate. Is it the lad with the stick and the dog? ;)

I'm in the Jack Walker upper-tier and he was rubbish from there.

You obviously missed the piece de resistance today..........

The ball comes to Andrews in the air........

After a mere 4 touches to get it under control, he checks his options (Man ###### have by now learned they don't need to tackle him so leave him alone) He takes careful aim and passes crossfield- DIRECTLY to a Man ###### player in tons of space.

Would someone just injure him, already? I don't care if he's all we have fit- I'd prefer one of the disabled lads at the front of the Jack Walker to him.

Never change.

Nothing to do with Warnock slipping then?

I would very gladly give him to Burnley on a free transfer, he would make them a worse side.

It's not errors on the ball that I care about the most, it's the wandering aroung the pitch marking space and getting into positions where he is worse than useless.

He doesn't know where to stand as the game develops and posession swaps and potential threats start to materialise, it's as though he has been brought in from a pub team...really.

I have never before seen a player at Ewood who has no idea what he is supposed to be doing at a certain point in time during the game.

Posters who only see highlights or full games on TV will not see all this.

I see it from the Riverside and it scares the Sh** out of me.

I think i'm detecting a stubborn, perhaps childish streak

So which crock would you suggest we risk by rushing back? If / when we ever have a fit midfield Andrews will not feature, simple.

Now for your next pop...
