Bennisfromheaven Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Id just like to say that one of the main complaints critics in Ireland have about the national team is how week the centre midfield is!! Dont get me wrong, Andrews has done OK as he has done for Rovers but the underlying fact is that he just is not good enough!! Ireland lack the ability to control the game & that stems from an inept centre midfield with a pairing of Andrews & Glen Whelan. The styles of play that Trapatoni encorporates enables the wide men push forward & dictate play while most of the game passes centre midfield by. This has worked for Ireland & got us results but has not shown Andrews to be a world class player, i like the guy & i like that he is at rovers but would hope he is never again cosidered a first team player!!

Blueandwhitemike Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I like Andrews as a hard working squad player, but the reports I read from the Ireland game all said how poor the midfielders were, Whelan and Andrews, so not the best argument. p.s. he does a fair bit of good work off the ball IMO and all those with OTT views are wrong
roversmum Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 If people want to watch Keith Andrews and think he's sh*t then let them. Please, for the love of God, let them. And we can all get on with our lives!! No problem with them watching him, it's the constant griping that is annoying. Bit like Jal with Dunny, keeps repeating... Think we've got the message now.
tcj_jones Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Thing is, the constant griping, as you put it, on the messageboard in any event, is almost entirely in response to Jonnolad.
bazza Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I don,t normally knock KA but.............. Quotes from the BBC match report:- "But it was an unconvincing display by Giovanni Trapattoni's side with creative midfield play almost completely absent from the visitors." "By that stage, route one was the Republic's only attacking option with central midfielders Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews largely anonymous.."
philipl Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 A friend in Cyprus asked me about KA before the RoI match. I said I don't rate him at all but Trapatoni seems to- form his own opinion. After the game he put E50 on Rovers to get relegated.
Mc Love Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Yeah he is nowhere near an international footballer - never mind fit for the premiership!
alexanders Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 A friend in Cyprus asked me about KA before the RoI match. I said I don't rate him at all but Trapatoni seems to- form his own opinion. After the game he put E50 on Rovers to get relegated. He hasn't heard about Portsmouth, Burnley, Birmingham, Hull, Wolverhampton then? KA might work in a w5 in the middle, consisting of: Diouf - Andrews - Grella - Dunn - Pedersen That way he can run around as a headless chicken and chip in with the odd goal. He has the ability to score near 10 goals a season from midfield position.
philipl Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 He might have heard of those clubs... but he has now seen Keith Andrews. PS I don't think Sam needs any more encouragement to play 4-5-1 thanks.

PS I don't think Sam needs any more encouragement to play 4-5-1 thanks. I didnt say that we should play 4-5-1, only that he might fit in there. It might be the right way to go away to big 4.

alexanders Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 HEADLESS CHICKENS - WHAT HAVE WE COME TO? SAVAGE WAS BAD ENOUGH AND PEOPLE USED TO CALL SUPER ATKO AND JOHN LOWEY! you know what i meant! He has a great engine and covers a lot of metres! He's also a good tackler. His positional play though is poor. In a 4-5-1 he doesnt have to worry about that as much, because we will have Grella staying def and covering the back 4. He can run around and chase/stress the opposition on the ball.
broadsword Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 This thread was quiet until Jonnolad decided to regurgitate stuff he'd said a million times before!
MCMC1875 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Bryan - pray add intelligent comment and save us all from eternal damnation watching inept midfielders!
Jonnolad Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Thing is, the constant griping, as you put it, on the messageboard in any event, is almost entirely in response to Jonnolad. It clearly isn't though is it. I've not posted on this thread for almost 2 months for instance, yet lo and behold it's still chock full of the constant griping that roversmum has highlighted. So basically you're just wrong.

thenodrog Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 our keith plays again for ireland and strides towards a world cup place, humble pie for some I guess you are right waggy, now where's my spoon.......... ........ But just before I tuck in can I just point out how fortunate it is for Messrs Gerrard, Barry, Cole and Lamps that he is not English otherwise he'd be giving them a right old run for their money!
Jonnolad Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 And you're just weird. And you're a gimp with issues.
T4E Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 And you're a gimp with issues. Sadly that's probably your most insightful contribution to this entire thread.
Jonnolad Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Its not like Andrews has been playing well recently, hence the criticism... But do you think he played well last year though? Sadly that's probably your most insightful contribution to this entire thread. Lol - gotta say I admire your honesty!

T4E Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Lol - gotta say I admire your honesty! Nothing to do with honesty - you're incorrect, but still closer to the truth than anything you've said about Keith Andrews
philipl Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 A fool and his money eh? No a guy who has legitimately made more dosh than you could count who enjoys a flutter with his surplus cash- and admits he rarely loses the "toilet money" budget he allows himself each year which is why he enjoys backing his judgement/hunches. He went to a game in which KA played, saw KA features regularly for Rovers, looked at our current league position and concluded there was good value in the long odds against us going down. KA was that good on Saturday! PS. Add a couple of noughts or even a third one when that guy makes a serious punt.
