Typical Scot letting the Uk down again!!!!!

Sorry Pal, being a "Scot" I find it quite offensive you judge his supposed lack of interest by his nationality!

He's on the British team.

I have to say its this attitude that makes me understand why my country wants independence.

You should really listen to the commentary especially in the past Scottish athletes refereed to as British and English as English not British.

Ah yes, the Olympics. When athletes win they are British when they lose the are Damn Scots/Sheep Shaggers/Limeys.

US beat Japan in football yesterday.

Usually don't quote myself, but I think the last post and the post it is responding to confirm what I said...

Am I allowed to say that I haven't watched any of the Olympic games & I don't intend to? Over-hyped rubbish commercialised by cola & burgers, nationalistic & political point-scoring in one of the worlds most repressive and polluted countries.

It will only get worse in 2012

Anyone else?

Well if you can't get happy over some of the images you see on your screen in the olympics you will struggle to find anything to be joyed about (barring kids and Rovers)

Can't say I have felt overwhelmed by any of your pointers whilst watching. Haven't seen a burger or cola ad, politics has been the last thing in my mind (except for Russia's wonderful timing) and having a bit of nationalistic sentiment gives you place. To add though I have been very happy for other countries to win as well, in fact, I would say it is as far from commercialisation as you can get. Competition the way it should be.

It's just been reported here (ABC Radio) that some of the fireworks images you saw on your TV were computer generated! Apparently they even put in a bit of "camera shake" to make it more realistic!

Just watching the local broadcast from our Channel 7. They were doing the gymnastics and a Chinese guy steps up to the parallel bars. Our female "expert" says of the guy "He's the only chink in their armour"

Reached Day 5 and Russia, France and Germany don't have a gold medal between them.

Perhaps invading Georgia should be made an Olympic sport?

Germany are doing well in the equestrian events.

Perhaps post-Communist Russia has gone soft.

Cynical viewpoint. China is a rogue nation but as the world's most populous country and the economic powerhouse of the next century the IOC could not ignore its claim to stage the Games.

I must say I enjoy the 4-year jamboree , just hope I make it to 2012 for our bit of a do ! Cannot wait for the real Olympics, the athletics, to start.

Olympic nationalism's OK in moderation : the US whooping and hollering in LA and Atlanta was revolting .

Good to see one of my old flames Anita Lonsborough on TV celebrating Great Britain success in the swimming pool but the 26-year-old blaming his 14-year-old partner (!!) for their last place in the diving final was unchivalrous.

Shocking scenes this morning during the olympic football tournament, when Somalian fans invaded the pitch after one of their players was shown a red card by the british referee.

.....apparently they thought he was being given a passport.

i will never support Murray, when he put that Paragruy shirt on at wimbledon during when England were about to play them in the world cup, my respect went for him.

I'm glad Murray is out. He's both arrogant and boring, and is Scottish, not British as he has previously pointed out. So why should I support a foreigner?

Sad to see the backlash against the young diving team has started. Tom Daley is only 14 and he doesn't need the crap that those scummy journalists dish out. Shame that he may have fallen out with his diving partner too. I hope he just enjoys the rest of his time in China.

They are only ahead, by a shade. Show jumping is today/tomorrow, to deceide the gold.

Cleutus - Your killing me with your posts

I've not got into the Olympics either, Cletus.

I think athletics is okay but it is revealing about human nature that you can invent the most confusing, aimless, contrived event, call it sport and pit competitors against each other on the basis of nationality, and you'll have the partisan crowd whooping with excitement.

It's no surprise that the F1 walking bank balances try to make a big thing about the nationality of drivers - when strictly speaking, it is irrelevant.

Like sport, hate nationalism.

In that case, you're English and not British, which makes you a foreigner.

Who are you supporting?

Britain, but not people who want to be Scottish rather than British. I have no ancestry or interest in the Democratic Republic of Methodonia, so if any sportsman starts supporting 'anyone playing England' and so on, I don't care for their success or failure. They see themselves as Scottish rather than British, so why should I support them?

Rover6 attention seeking again. Exactly what sport confuses you so much cherub? It all seems quite straight forward to me.

Define walking F1 bank balance?

So you like sport but are not in to the biggest sporting event the world calendar throws up?

If there was an olympic event for contradicting yourself....

How close is this Equestrian??? Its killing me watching it!

....and to top it all off, the Australian commentator (I have) has got to be the biggest, unqualified clown, I have ever heard!!

Eh ? F1 bores me to tears but I take an interest in it because Lewis Hamilton is British and I like to see this country's sportsmen and women doing well. Without nationalism most people wouldn't watch "sports" such as F1 and certainly not Olympic events such as synchronised driving or archery or beach volleyball .

Presumably you also hate the England football and cricket teams.

England and Britain are not the same place.

It's like saying anyone who doesn't support Burnley is not English.

Murray has said many times that he sees himself as Scottish AND British.

Murray has clarified on several occasions he made a one off comment tongue in cheek about the english football team. Its called banter. It happens in football. Its part of the fun. So many people took it to heart because the media made a story out of it. Grow up.
