1864roverite Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Your joking right. To play the scum would be the best thing to happen. local rivalry, two clubs up for it, Rovers with a proud record and at home at Ewood. It woild be just what we need. The gap is simply too wide. If Sheff wed can put 4 past them then we can go five or more. BRING IT ON IN THE NEXT ROUND (if the scum make it that is)

Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Hardly scared of them. Just seems likely we won't be ready for a while. Apart from Derbs and Dunny, I doubt the players would be "up for it".
Grabbi Graeme Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Watching soccer special on Sky Sports and Scott Minto is reporting on the Notts Forrest V Morecambe game and there is an empty stand behind him.
mark1875 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 i know this is going to sound stupid! but there r 36 teams in the list of teams. and then 24 teams seede? how can seeded teams play non seeded if 24 r seeded and 12 arent?
mark1875 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I Am thinking maybe the first post doesnt list all the teams that are in it? maybe?
mark1875 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Teams in the draw: Blackburn Bolton Brighton Bristol city Burnley Cardiff Carlisle Cheltenham Colchester Crewe Crystal Palace Darlington Derby Fulham Grimsby Hartlepool Huddersfield Hull Ipswich Leeds Leicester Luton Macclesfield Man City Middlesboro Mk Dons Newcastle Northampton Notts County Oldham QPR Reading Rotherham Preston Stoke Sunderland Southampton Swansea Watford West Brom West Ham Wigan Wolves Yeovil Then either Notts Forest v Morecambe Sheff Utd v Port Vale Wycombe v Birmingham Coventry v Aldershot
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Rovers will play grimsby home Not bad, league two side?
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 What a boring draw for us. Burnley v Oldham. Bolton v Northampton, Preston V Derby
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Actually there could be an edge to this game. It was Ince's MK Dons side who beat Grimsby in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final. I'm sure they will want revenge.
modes98 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Great draw for us. A good way for Ince to give some run outs to the less experienced lads who had a good pre season. Olsson, Treacy, Judge & maybe some of the less fit first teamers.

This is a tournament we could win and we have a good record in recent years.
brfcshabba Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Hope it won't be a repeat of Bournemouth 2004.
Rover down South Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Was hoping for Brighton away!! Only just down the road.
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 No id like to see us play a strong side, defeat them by a bag full of goals and get the confidence running through the players viens and maybe also some supporters
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Great draw for us. A good way for Ince to give some run outs to the less experienced lads who had a good pre season. Olsson, Treacy, Judge & maybe some of the less fit first teamers. A one way ticket to humiliation.....the Coventry cup tie debacle is still fresh in my mind! As strong a side as possible please to finish the job in style and entertain a very small home crowd.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 We don't have the distraction of Europe so i think we should and will play a strong side. Maybe have a few youngsters on the bench to bring on if the result is certain.
frosty Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Not bad, league two side? Yeah. Ince and Mathias will at least know how to tactically outsmart them

As strong a side as possible please to finish the job in style and entertain a very small home crowd. I agree to a certain extent but I just think it's a bit harsh to give them a run in pre-season and then say that's it for the rest of the season. If they are good enough then it won't get us knocked out and if they are not good enough then get rid of them now. I agree a drubbing would be good but you don't often see that and as long as we win it doesn't matter.
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Only kids id like to see maybe given a game are - Olsson, Judge and Derbyshire. Treacy if we are doing well
Majiball Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Hopefully we can get a few goals past em. I hope Ince gives the kiddo's a chance.
Rover down South Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Just seen my local side Brighton have drawn Citeh at home, would love Hughes's lot to get beaten there. Horrible place for away sides, The Withdean stadium, only holds approx 10,000!! They will get poor allocation.
DeadlyDirk Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Nice to get a home draw, should be a comfortable win, I hope we can progress further in the cups this year so as many home draws against lower league opposition as possible please!
tcj_jones Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Has the date for this game been confirmed yet? I know it's week beginning 25 August, but does anybody know what day it will be? Ince should be well aware of Hughes's superb record in the domestic cups and take this game seriously. For a club of our size, this is our only chance of winning something. I don't want a repeat of last season where we crashed out both cups in the first round. If Ince wants to endear himself to the fans, then he can start with a strong team against Grimsby.
